I LOVE this place. Nature is my church, water is my element, and this place just brings so much peace, adventure, exploration, serenity, crystal clear waters, nature trail, and a CAVE! Although, apparently everyone else loves it too, because it is always busy!!

This place was a gem. The staff there was absolutely full of information and so friendly! We learned so much. The cave was pretty cool, even just going into the mouth, and the trails were beautiful. The creek was great for wading as well. Overall a great afternoon.

A great little park with a surprising amount to do. Schermerhorn Park is located along Shoal Creek, and boy was it fun. There are a couple nature trails (one leads to a beautiful little cave)! A Nature center, swimming at the creek and lots of picnic areas with grills. We walked to the caves, swam and grilled up some brats. It was a great day, best of all totally free!

Very pretty and nice trails. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this place. It has a lot of river access too. A cave, picnic tables, playground, covered areas for parties, and much more. Not too crowded either.

Excellent park that has fun equipment for all ages to play with. The river nearby is incredibly clean and has plenty of places to swim in both shallow or deep areas. There is a current, but it is slow enough that even beginner swimmers can still enjoy the water. There are huge trees hanging over the water with rope swings available to jump and play for the older kids and more experienced swimmers too.

The park is often patrolled for your safety. It is my absolute favorite place to visit when I have to wait on time. I feel comfortable here. They have a nice area for fishing, swimming, or just splashing around in the water. Don't forget to visit the wildlife museum set on a lovely hill next to the playground. You may climb the rock steps or drive around the back to navigate the hill easier. Staff are always friendly and helpful. It is a great place for kids... both fun and educational. The park has a nature walking path, a cave, an indian hunting trail, and a rock area that has been used for weddings, parties, and photo shoots. There is lots to enjoy whether you are into seeing rocks, trees, birds, natural insects, or just closing your eyes and listening to everything around you. Whether you are 1 or 101, I honestly believe you will not be disappointed on you visit.

Great play to wade and gently board down river. Wear water shoes as the rocks are a bit tough on feet. It has playgrounds, restrooms and is animal friendly

It is a. Nice place clean bathrooms and free to the public. Only thing that keeps it from awsome in the summer is its to shallow to swim.

This is a wonderful park! Plenty of places to picnic or enjoy a quiet afternoon with your family. They have amazing bluffs that are easy to get to (if you're ok with a little 5 minute hike here and there), the water is clean and shallow. There are a lot of fossils and cool rock walls as well!! I'm definitely making this one of my weekly trips because there's not enough daylight to see everything in one day!!

Didn't get to spend a bunch of time here, but the water access was a great place to stop and stretch your legs

This place is a relaxing spot for a picnic by the water or to simply sit and enjoy the scenery. The property has a time warp quality to it. It's quaint, with a friendly old soul with just a hint of danger. Danger? Wait... What's danger doing in a park geared towards children? As you might have guessed, the question of danger didn't cross the minds of the park designers in the era this park was built. There is a huge playground and sandbox with the type of swing sets and jungle gyms that were state of the art 50 years ago, the kind that every stand up comic of a certain age has referenced at some point in the development of their set. Who can resist a tall swing set with beefy chains and a strappy seat? Not me. Feels like it's time for a disclaimer: Use with caution, and at your own risk. You'll likely avoid injury, but you won't avoid a head on collision with fun. There is a little park office at the top of the hill. A stairway is dug into the natural elevation and made from native stones. It's a grand staircase dressed in rocky camo, which seems unremarkable until you take a moment to realize the size and scope of the structure. It's pretty cool, but OK I'm making it sound like the great pyramid of Giza or something. To be clear it most certainly is not. But it's kind of cool to appreciate this humble stairway. It is far larger than it needs to be, but at the same time, unobtrusive. In fact you might miss it if you don't look closely. If you do take notice, it's not going to cause any goose bumps, but it is interesting. The question of how I can give 5 stars to a nearly dilapidated creekside park might come to mind and if it does, please understand I am framing this rating within the context of this rapidly disappearing class of parks from the previous century. From that perspective, this little park is a banger.

The nature center is a must see. Many live animals, furs, fossils, artifacts, historical maps etc. One could easily spend an hour or more oh and it’s free admission! When you are finished head down the hill and take a dip in shoal creek.

Great place to visit, don't forget to tour the Visitors Center. The director there is very helpful and insightful. You may have to call when you come up to the door to get entrance but be patient .

Great little roadside part. Attended a family reunion under a shelter. Is right next to the river. A lot of people was in the water, swimming, floating and fishing. Still has an old fashion metal slide. Great little stop. Worth the visit.

Great place! Picnic tables under canopies, nice looking grills son bring charcoal for lunch or dinner, playground for kids (mostly metal so be careful), shaded areas, creek swimming and parking by creek. Be careful not to get stuck parking to close to creek. Bring a canopy for by the water for some shade & bring sunscreen. I did float on the far side and tube flipped by a fallen tree. Was very fortunate to live to tell about it. Please, be careful and aware. No lifeguards.
