Exceptional tour in Sri Lanka. The itinerary was perfectly tailored to what we had asked for (we wanted something focusing on wildlife). Some of the activities were a little unusual and real “not in the guidebook” style. For example, we met with a monkey researcher who was studying the monkey populations in Polonnaruwa - which was fascinating. On top of this, various safaris, bird watching, nature walks… The accommodation was on the whole spectacular and thoughtfully chosen: again, all very much aligned to what we were after. Places all close to nature! Finally, our driver was helpful, friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Best of Lanka was highly recommended to me by a friend. As this is our second trip to Sri Lanka, I wanted to experience the country differently and include other activities. I submitted a request for a tailor-made quote through their website, where I filled in my interests, the type of accommodation we like, our budget (excluding flights), and any additional requirements and expectations. Daniel then emailed me with a few suggested itineraries and the criteria for entry into Sri Lanka. Daniel also gave me his WhatsApp number so we could communicate more quickly. We found him to be very flexible about making the changes we needed and clearly understanding what other options might be best for us. Our favorite activities were: - Kandy market walk and traditional meal cooking with a local family. - Scenic train journey from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. - My birthday celebration in Nuwara Eliya with complimentary high tea. - We walked two days from Nuwara Eliya to Ella, where we hiked a guided nature trail in Horton Plains National Park, trekked to Ohiya through the bordering forest of Horton Plains National Park, and hiked to Haputale through tea estates, rural estate villages, and the rain forest of Thangamalay. - We stayed in a remote tea estate bungalow in Ohiya. We were fortunate enough to see some of Sri Lanka's most spectacular scenery with no other tourists in sight - an unforgettable experience of places that are seldom seen. The driver, Nihal, was very patient and accommodating throughout our journey. We were made to feel comfortable and safe. In fact, he stopped whenever we requested it. In addition, he recommended top restaurants to try in the cities we visited, making eating authentic Sri Lankan food much easier. Daniel stayed in constant communication with me while we were in Sri Lanka and ensured that everything was exactly as we expected. He is the friendliest and most professional travel agent I have ever worked with. In spite of the difficult situation in Sri Lanka, this trip would not have been possible without his dedication and help. We like that Best of Lanka is a local travel agency with a good reputation for being able to customize tours at good value. Praveen was great to work with in customizing our tour to be just what we were hoping for within our budget. He had a good feel for the unique and diverse types of lodging we wanted, and his suggestions on other itinerary items was very helpful. He was especially accommodating and nimble in searching for last minute train tickets and lodging during the Christmas season, including holiday dinner reservations. The guide/driver he arranged was really great (John Stork of Elephant Toes) who was very knowledgeable in the history of Sri Lanka and the sites we wanted to visit.
