We've been here every day in our Galle stay. First day we tried the hoppers which are a must. Delicious and very big portion! Second day we had the veggie starter which easily is one of the best food we had in Sri Lanka and then the rotti: veggie and cheese one. These are a bit smaller than the hoppers but still delicious. Staff is so kind and friendly. I wish I'd stayed more in Galle so I can go there again.

The fried Crunchy Treats was stuffed jackfruit and they were delicious! Highly recommend it to anyone. As for the mains, the egg hopper tasted average but the price is very high. The accompanying prawn curry was tasty but the prawns were not fresh. This is surprising because Galle is surrounded by sea. The Currylicious Rotti was average, however the caramelized onions was delicious. On the whole, we find this place overrated.

Best Sri Lankan food we've had on our three week trip. It's a modern take on traditional cuisine with locally sourced ingredients. We have never tasted anything like it before and we were sad that we were in Galle for one night only as we sure would have gone to Hoopa again. The owners are incredibly friendly and told us everything about the dishes. The place itself is very stylish, clean and comfortable. Highly recommended!

One of the best eat out at peddlar street Galle fort. Food is simply delicious and unforgettable. We ate 2-3 times at hoppa during our trip in Sri Lanka. Must try egg hoppa sets, fish curry, vegetable curry, watermelon juice and chicken curry. It's a small restaurant so you might have to wait for sometime for your turn. Prices are also reasonable and they accept cards too.

It’s one of those limited but yummy menu places and of course a must try when in Galle for the local Sri Lankan flavour. We went there twice and were told to come back as they are very Particular about their timings of closure. They close at 9.30 pm sharp for orders( won’t throw you out if you already eating don’t worry 😜) So let me put pointers - Ambience- a very very narrow space fits about 10-12 small tables (but they manage to draw the crowd anyway) Food genre - Sri Lankan I tried - Egg Hoppa, cheese Hoppa, vegetable curry, chicken curry ( my husband loved this) and a glass of their white Price - On the good side of Galle prices , around 3600 for what we ate Tips - ask them to explain the menu if you don’t understand, it helps. Also be there early and be ready to be on queue. You can’t go there in a “hangry” mood at all 😬

Great! Very tasty Sri Lankan food at reasonable prices. The establishment is quite modest in size, so we didn’t immediately find it from the street; we had to ask the locals. I ordered hoppers, curry shrimp and watermelon fresh. My wife and parents took kari rice with shrimp, fresh watermelon and a variety of spicy sambol. Everything was incredibly tasty and satisfying. Nice spiciness. The curry rice seemed to have been slightly modified to suit European cuisine, but that only made it better. My favorite was the mango and cookie ice cream. The dessert is simply bomb! Ate 3 pieces. We paid about 6,000 rupees for everything. If we're in the area, we'll definitely visit again. I recommend to everyone!

Food tasted great, but the menu was confusing. For example, the chicken curry in the curries section is the same as the accompaniment served with the chicken hopper set. So we ended up ordering 2 portions of the same thing. Best to clarify with the waitstaff before ordering.

We went to 'Toddy by Hoppa' in Unawatuna and were very impressed. Not only is the service impeccable, the owners are extremely kind and the food is absolutely delicious. Don't get me started on the cocktails ;) At Toddy, you will be dining next to the beach, on soft pillows with your toes in the sand. Amazing experience! Would recommend 100%

The place is tiny and so cosy, we ordered the hoppers set with prawn curry, and the set with egg hopper and chicken curry and hopper with sambol, and the prawns. Everything was absolutely exceptional, we will try to go again. We hadn't tried the curry leaf hopper and they were great. It's is a bit more expensive, but definetly worth it.

Ordered the currylicious veg set (780LKR), which included one curry leaf hopper, two plain hoppers, potato curry, seeni sambol (spicy caramelized onions), kattha sambol (shallots pounded with chili pieces) and pol sambol (spiced coconut). I loved the fragrance of the curry leaf hopper, though I enjoyed the other two hoppers as well, they were great to dip into the curry, but my favourite was the seeni sambol- the balance of sweet and spicy was perfect. The service was good, even though they mistakenly served me chicken curry first, but the waiter quickly rectified his mistake and apologized profusely. It gets quite busy in the evening, so prepare to wait a few minutes to get a seat. The WiFi worked great until a power cut happened, but you can’t fault the restaurant for that. Prices are typical for Galle Fort, a 10% service charge is added as well. Overall, I’d recommend a visit, as I really did enjoy my meal a lot.

Tasty hoppers, especially the egg ones. Both the prawn Curry and the chicken black Curry is excellent. Portions are good too. It's a little hole-in-the-wall so may be a bit difficult to find.

Great hoppers and service in an unassuming restaurant. Had the cheese hoppa with a lion beer. Best combo in my opinion. Check it out!

Fantastic flavours and by far the best local food served on our trip so far ! Highly highly recommend as opposed to the western cuisine across the city

Small place.. Just like others around galle Fort. Took some time to get seated. But food was worth the wait. Really good starters. And then the stars....Amazing hoppers. Have had good curries around sri Lanka. But this was amazing. Tried all the varieties and I still can't decide who the winner was. Couldn't try the poi roti as the desired variants were finished. So make sure you arrive on time to enjoy the desired options.

Amazing and very unique food and that it self wins my 5 stars. But on the down side the location is a bit cramped and lacks basic facilities even like wash rooms. The staff although desperately trying to be nice are struggling to keep up with rush hour demands some issues fall through the cracks. I didn't want to reduce a star for those shortcomings because the food taste overcompensate.

Lukewarm food. Meat was dry. I got the chicken hopper set as a recommendation. Maybe only I got this lukewarm experience since it was 3pm and quiet.

(Translated by Google) Very tasty, prices are certainly above average, but for the fort it is. One of those places where there is beer (before that there were no 5-6 establishments anywhere). The portions were large, they took curry with shrimps and fish, everything was fresh and tasty. ~ 3.500 went out for two (with beer) (Original)

Interesting place to try the hoppers. Good quality, a little bit pricy though

  • 5/5 Eleanor H. 4 years ago on Google
Wonderfully crispy, light, flavoursome hoppers with delicious curry and sambal. Go for classic egg or spicy (the cheese is a nice idea but not as good as the egg which was perfect). Be aware that the prawns come in their shells, so be ready to get messy if you prefer prawn curry, but it's worth it for a fabulous flavour.

  • 2/5 Pal R. 4 years ago on Google
The hoppers served were very cold, sugary and not like hoppers are supposed to be. Even prawn curry was too sweet, portions small. And they didn’t have any wine which was part of the menu. If you expect authentic Sri Lankan food, this is not the place. Staff also not pleasant. There are several better options in Galle Fort

  • 4/5 A A. 4 years ago on Google
    1. Very good hoppers. 2. Creative offers including cheese hoppers, curry leave hoppers etc., 3. Yummilicious curry to go with it Only improvement needed is their service! At point felt like 3 persons were starring at us while we were dining.

  • 2/5 Axel M. 4 years ago on Google
I don’t understand all the good reviews... we tried the chicken and the prawns, both were overdone, and there was not much to eat. There are much better places to eat in the fort. Really disappointed.

Tourist trap. Big on price, little on quality and quantity. Rp1130 for a hopper set of 3 hoppers (1 egg and two plain) with 5 prawns. The prawns weren’t shelled, and they definitely weren’t fresh. The hoppers were lukewarm.

Good food, excellent vegetarian and non vegetarian option (fish curry had a peculiar smell which otherwise Lankan fish preparations do not have). Tough for Jains, they do have a lentil (dal) based hoppa (which is excellent & by far the best option), that can be made without onion but you’d rather visit calorie counter for Jain/Vegan/healthy food.

Interesting take on local cuisine. Good but not great. Reasonably priced.

  • 5/5 Hruthika C. 4 years ago on Google
The egg hoppers (appams) were perfectly cooked. The vegetarian curry was great - I liked it more than the chicken curry. The sambols were the highlight. I'd reccomend this place for Sri Lankan food (I found it particularly hard to find places where the Sri lankan food was good, so I'm happy I discovered this one!)

  • 3/5 Ryan S. 4 years ago on Google
The food was really great & deserves 4-5 stars. But my review is only 3 stars because of an issue with our drinks. We ordered two beers. They were served in glasses, but they were flat & tasted like they had been watered down. I queried with the waitress & she took them away without hesitation & brought out two unopened cans instead, which tasted normal. It was obvious that our two original beers were in fact one can split between two glasses & topped up with water. I know trade is slow in Sri Lanka at the moment but that is not acceptable, and who knows what other corners they are cutting in order to reduce costs?

This stylish but simple new addition to the Galle restaurant scene is a real standout. We had the set lunch with 5 curries and expertly done prawns in a lemongrass sauce—so refreshing to have prawns done correctly after eating such disappointing, overcooked ones elsewhere on the coast. The chef has high culinary credentials, having cooked with star chefs in New Orleans and Miami before coming here. Do NOT miss this place.
