Fantastic food especially for vegan, vegetarian, plant based! Local cuisine, no frills & a buffet style service. The sweet potato curry was amazing!

We stopped by here twice for lunch for rice and curry. It is an all-you-can eat vegetarian meal. Each time they have a few different items. We tried rice and curry at a few different locations as well and so far, this has been the best. It is not the best food out there. It is just traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry. Not all the items are hot. Not sure if this is how it is supposed to be, but not all the items were hot as well at the other two rice and curry restaurants that we went to which were also highly rated, so I guess that is how it is supposed to be? For the price of the rice and curry buffet here (700 Rs), we are happy with it. We ordered their fresh fish as well and that was amazing and hot! It was made to order so it took some time. The people here were super friendly!

The rice and curry was good. Price was 700 rupees. We had the buffet and there was beet curry, pumpkin curry , radish curry, sambol, lentil dal and rice. Everything tasted a bit monotonous and you can tell that it is cooked exclusively for tourists. If you are not a spicy person, this is a good place for you. If you like it more hearty with more flavor, you might want to look for a restaurant a little more out of the way

It is a cute little restaurant with good food for a reasonable price. We ate lunch with the two of us. They offer a rice and curry buffet and various grilled seafood on the side. The rice & curry is good with multiple dishes to choose from. Especially for the price it is a good place to eat.

Doesnt look like much from the outside but the food this family makes is incredible. The freshest prawns i could see in town cooked in a divine sauce! And the all you can eat rice and curry buffet was beautiful! I went back twice to refill my plate and the curry dishes change daily!

Fantastic traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. Very friendly hosts. The freshly caught red snapper was superb. Buffet also brilliant. Reasonably priced for top quality food and service. Also serve ice cold beers and soft drinks, and freshly made fruit juices. Very highly recommended!

We had a lovely dinner here after an afternoon on the beach. The staff cooked the buffet fresh for us and even sourced coconuts to make fresh sambal! Must stop for true local cuisine

We ordered the Sri Lanka Vegetable Soup - even it was not on the menu. The owner was really nice and did it for us - the taste was super good. Also the fresh fish with the special topping was perfect. Thanks for the nice food :)

Always fresh food from a nice and welcoming family. We appreciated the freshness of the food and prompt service, local seating. The food is prepared in kettles, you can come and eat without waiting. The food in the kettles is vegetarian, good price. It is also possible to order fresh fish and prawns. During our stay in Unawatuna 2018 and 2022 we visited this place several times.

What a pleasant surprise! Came across this little restaurant by chance as the great vegan curry options caught my eye on the roadside…. It’s super cheap (450 sr) for a help-yourself buffet curry. Jackfruit, pumpkin, sweet potato, dhal and some greens and a chicken of white or brown rice and the VERY spicy coconut sambol. I love curry for flavour but need it mild so i had actually stopped eating curries here but I was assured if I stayed clear of the sambol I’d be fine and it was all delicious and to my perfect taste! I sat upstairs which is a little terrace restaurant. Would definitely come back! It’s rated so highly because it’s authentic and delicious. It’s not trying to be a five star dining experience it’s a family run, low income but heart-felt eatery in a great spot. If you can’t look past that it may be a bit shabby round the edges and the reality of keeping food piping hot all evening for example, on a single flame, then it’s not for you. The staff were wonderfully friendly, my table and cutlery etc all clean. Great, cheap, authentic Sri Lankan experience! ☺️

All you can eat for 350 LRK, who can resist that? In any case there was a lot of variety, everything was vegetarian and even Jack fruit was processed. However, every ingredient was a bit too salty, so you couldn't taste anything else. But I don't think that it is always like this

Hidden Gem of Unawanthana. One must definitely try their Buffett & grilled Fish. Buffet consist of White Rice, Brown Rice, yellow daal, pumpkin, sweet potato, raw mango sabzi, coriander salad, spicy chutney and always smiling owner.

Tasty rice, curry and salad (buffet) only R 350! The prawns are extra cost and the coconut water was a gift from the owner, who is very kind and friendly!

Amazing food served by a friendly family! We had a grilled fish and seafood and it was delicious! Prices are reasonable and a terrace upstairs is very cosy. We like it very much.

Place is awesome! When price shopping around the area, you can beat Mati Gedara (350r per person)! The buffet is always vegetarian but they do offer fresh fish too. Prices vary on the kind/size you get. We got a whole sweetlips (really, that's the species name) for 500r (it's the striped one in the pictures). They also have an upstairs area which is nice to sit on. Bring mosquito repellent as it is covered but opened air. The owners are on premise every day and are very friendly!

Be careful, stewed mango has core pieces. In all other aspects - great veg curry. Try everything. I have to say, we tried devilled fish at the first floor and it was overcooked( I said to owner that Europeans don't like deep fried food, hope he'll consider it.

Great southern style food for an affordable price. They delivered the food to the villa I stayed at Unawatuna on both days during the fuel crisis. FOC. Delivery on time and very friendly. Let them know the spicy level when you place the order. I couldn’t visit their restaurant though.
