A really nice place to visit. They’re taking care of so many sea turtles and some are injured. The owner is very friendly and provide so many details. They let you touch and hold the sea turtles as well. Ticket is only 500rps and it’s totally worth the money.

We took a tuk tuk from Hikkaduwa, 13km and paid 3000 rupees to there and back (slightly above current fare during economic crisis). The entry fee to the hatchery is 1000lkr per person. The guide was very friendly and informative, passionate and sincerely concerned about the turtles. There were a lot of baby turtles and young ones that you were allowed ho hold for a while. Leave a small tip to helo the cause!

This place buys collected turtle eggs from the locals, and take care of them until they get hatched and the baby turtles are ready to be released into the sea. They have all the 5 major turtle species which come to Sri Lanka to lay eggs. They also keep the injured turtles as they can’t be released to the sea.

Really nice place. First have to buy ticket and after that there is short tour in hatchery. All the eggs came from black market. People still want to eat turtle eggs and it is not easy to stop. Hatchery buy those eggs and after free them. This place is not running without many volunteer workers from all around the world. Also money goes to buy turtle eggs. Big turtles in these photos are hurted somehow, like in fishnet or born sick.

They have different kinds of sea turtles like 5 or 6. And the people who are doing this project are doing a good job. They take care of disordered turtles also.

Turtle Museum at Ambalangoda. Location is when you come from Hikkaduwa to Ambalangoda, just before (500m before) the Ambalangoda town, to the left side (on the sea side) a small board of turtle museum can see. If drive pass, you will definitely pass the place. Then entrance to the museum is very narrow, once entered there are good space to stop several vehicles and the place is family run and friendly place. There are few tanks baby turtles and young ones and also disabled turtles. To the right side of entrance they have the turtle egg fertilizing section with sand tanks covered by nets. The guides there can speak several languages. I have been to many turtle conservation centers alone the beach and this is the place I like most with their friendly service.

Visiting the sea turtle hatchery was a truly remarkable experience, made even more special by our exceptional guide. As we arrived at the hatchery nestled by the ocean, I was immediately captivated by the mission of this conservation center. Our guide, with deep passion and knowledge, led us through the hatchery's efforts to protect and preserve endangered sea turtles. We watched in awe as tiny turtle hatchlings were carefully nurtured in a safe environment, shielded from the many threats they face in the wild.

This was an unplanned visit, and I was talked into visiting by my tuk tuk driver. 2000lkr for the ticket which was def Tourist price. This place seemed less about genuine conservation and more about making a buck. You do get to hold turtles, but it was cringe. The adults looked trapped in the concrete pens. I'd happily pay the price if the money was for conservation, but it didn't seem that way.

(Translated by Google) Really great station! Small turtles are raised for a few days and then released to freedom. Also sick animals are received and treated or given a life, which they can not lead due to obstacles in the nature. Dependent on donations, so the visit is worth twice! (Original) Wirklich tolle Station!

I felt uncomfortable looking at these turtles in a small tub always always hitting against the wall. But they are still so beautiful! I hope the centre (and all the money we gave them) is really helping these turtles.

(Translated by Google) Admission is 500 rupees per person and per child, too. The tour includes a 20-minute walk with a guide (reasonably fluent in Russian). There is a fenced sandbox with eggs of turtles, pools with newborns, adolescents, people with disabilities, albinos and those who will soon be released into the sea. The territory is very small, many volunteers work / hang out, which, apparently, help to care for the tortillas. One of the positive aspects is that some turtles can be stroked, touched, and even removed and photographed. There is a book of reviews and a box for donations. The whole territory is covered with sand, so it will be difficult for guests with wheelchairs or wheelchairs to move around. The toilet is present. Positive emotions refueled, the children are delighted, the turtles got their portion of adrenaline and love :) (Original)

I think they are doing good work here...I would like to think so. The caretaker is very committed. There are several international volunteers working here. They give safe homes to turtles who cannot survive in the wild because of injuries. And, a turtle who floats because of eating so much plastic...(!). However, in a hatchery, the turtles cannot really return to their birthplace to lay eggs...so do they? Plus, so much human interaction cannot be good for wild things. Visit with caution.

The place is very strange: turtles are beautiful and some of them seem to be really injured, but there very no explanation or their story, the pool are super tiny for such a big creatures. We donated money and they immediately asked how much we gave, as they would then divide between each other... Turtles are very nice, place is disappointing.

Fantastic experience. Probably the best experience in Sri Lanka. Glad we could help this place out with donations. Even more excited to release turtle hatchlings back to the ocean. The owner was so friendly, caring and knowledgeable about all of them and cared deeply for them. Would highly recommend.

Unsure if the turtles are there due to conservation purposes or for profit making. I had mixed feelings. They allow you to touch and pick up the turtles which is something that shouldnt be allowed.

I don't know if they're really rescuing turtles or using them for profit. The tanks could be bigger and have sea-related items in the water for the turtles to have a better quality of life.

(Translated by Google) This is a turtle care site where their eggs are laid in sandy hatcheries for preservation and protection. After the eggs hatch, they are nurtured during the incubation period until they are able to depend on themselves and then return to the ocean. In this place, a tour guide provides visitors with information about the turtles and their types, and some turtles can be carried. In short, it is a beautiful, simple place worth visiting and encouragement. Decent place. The turtles seem to be healthy and well fed. There was only 1 person to explain about the turtles and take us through the different tanks. Since different groups came at different times, he had to go back and forth between the groups, which kinda disrupted the focus/flow of the explanation.

This is a basic place where all the funds are used on the turtles and not on amenities or buildings. Lots of turtles are being housed and saved from those to badly damaged to be let loose to all the ones that are nursed back to health and released. Very informative.

Very small. Cost us 500Rs each to visit. Guide gave us information on each tank containing the turtles. He said they operate under the governments directions. Tanks just don’t seem big enough. Especially since they are supposed to be kept here until they are 3 yrs old before they released into the wild. But then again I’m not an expert. Was cool to see the turtles up close. The ones that are injured are not released apparently and live there permanently. The tanks for them are definitely too small. During our visit one of the turtles was trying to claw its way out. That’s what it seemed to me.

(Translated by Google) We came to this farm specifically to release the little bug into the ocean. We were allowed to do this, but turned down the price of 1000 rupees ($ 6) for one baby. The workers' facial expressions twisted when we took only one, we explained that it was rather expensive, tourists or not tourists would still release turtles into the ocean, what difference does it make. In response, they heard that they “buy the scoop eggs from fishermen, the fishermen sell expensively, and therefore it will also be expensive for the tourist to let the turtle into the ocean”. They collected a bucket of water, put a turtle in it, sent a peasant with a crooked face with us to make sure that we let the kid go to the ocean. The guy obviously didn’t like that we took a picture of a bug, he podtoraplivat us, freaked out ... when I saw that the baby was already washed away by a wave, turned around and left. Such a dismissive attitude of a man, of course, very spoiled the impressions about visiting this farm: (I think that if you have already organized such services, then render them normally, and do not show your disagreement with all your appearance.

Unfortunately i have to say it is the worst place if you expect also some kind of polite behaviour from that guide. The way how he talk to you is not good. He is thinking only about income money, so quickly sell too much tickets, but he didn't give service and good explanation. He is running between more groups and quickly saying something after jump other group. Unfortunately i have to say that for this service is 1000 lkr ticket quite much. Other places give you better service.
