Great location with nice rooms. One of the most eyecatching pools in the southern coast hotels. Polite and helpful service. If you are a sea lover, this is the place.

Exceeded our expectations by a mile. This place is a must visit for all visitors and residents alike. From the valet to pool attendants each and every person of the hotel were extremely courteous and helpful with a big smile. Restaurant offers a delightful menu and the food was fantastic. Breakfast buffet spread was outstanding compared to even the most renowned star class hotels in colombo. Rooms were spotless and they even had the air-conditioning on before our arrival. We were lucky to have Thejani as our personal butler as she went above and beyond to make our stay one of a kind. Sincerely thankful to all the staff and the management for their excellent service. Top of our charts.

One of the best hotels on the southern coast. Stayed one night in a fortress room which was unbelievably big. Even though it didn't have a sea view room was wonderful. Kids loved it. Couldn't get the kids out of the swimming pool. Pool was so long and deep. There is a safe place for a sea bath just at the corner of the hotel garden. Beautiful and long sandy beach. Friendly staff who treats local guests without any discrimination as you might see on some beach hotels. They were always ready to help you.

Okay, reading all the reviews beforehand, I will agree the staff were absolutely wonderful they could not do enough for you. But moving on from just the staff, there were severe shortcomings which ruined our stay. Firstly, wanting to have your rooms cleaned at a reasonable time, I feel is not asking too much and only when it got past 2pm on our third day did I raise a complaint. It seems every day, the time got pushed back to a point where it appeared unprofessional, especially as they had no other reason than just “sorry”. It may be hard, but I do not want to come back to my room still to find the bed has not been made or the room cleaned; added to this, on the first day, I informed housekeeping that our blinds did not work and that was still the case on the third day. It seems only if you shout and complain you are heard. The massage therapists were wonderful, but the lack of management oversight meant that while my wife and I were having messages, there was drilling and banging in the room next door, which destroyed the ambience as with others who had booked a therapy session. Food was of a good standard and so was the general cleanliness of the resort there are no issues here however, the fact that when you are on the beach or by the pool service meant that any requirements for drinks or food meant you had to go to the restaurant to order and then carry it back to your beds. Fellow travellers, if I were asked if I would revisit this hotel, my answer would be yes, but in the knowledge that services and amenities may not be what other 4* hotels may be. Please note that the staff are absolutely wonderful.

We have just enjoyed a week at the Fortress hotel in an Ocean Room and have found all aspects of our stay fabulous. The staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly at all times. One reception lady even went out of her way to bring Aloe Vera to my room to help sooth my insect bites and I had wonderful foot reflexology with a gentleman therapist at the spa! Highly recommend The Fortress to anyone interested in a relaxing holiday! 😊👍

We had a really nice and relaxing weekend at The Fortress Resort.. one of the best places in down south. Rooms are very spacious, comfy and well maintained. The pool and the beach front are out of the world. It's so damn beautiful 😍 . Every staff member was really friendly and helpful and they offered a great hospitality. So satisfied with their service.

We decided to celebrate new year on this property. Approximately 2 hours drive from Colombo. Hotel has an external car park. Spacious rooms, with modern amenities overlooking the ocean and pool in my case. All rooms located on ground and first floor. Friendly and pleasant staff and ever ready to assist with a smile. Though we were back of a Pandemic and many waves of setback of recovery, I'm indeed pleasantly surprised, this property is full! Not just full, 95% of guests are foreign. And did take some making calls to get an extra room 😁. It's a 5 star property My favorite part, food! Hmmmmm, wide selection of international dishes, well prepared and delicious, most cases. Okay let's talk about the spa in this property... I love the ambiance and layout! Homely! Did not have my mobile to clique a few, planning to enjoy tomorrow as well and clique! 😊. Decent stock of spirits. To those sun, sea, sand lovers with a touch of Mulla($$$), it's an amazing location to experience Sri Lankan south coastal sea and delights. Enjoy!

The beautiful view of the ocean is absolutely stunning, and there's even a row of traditional stilt fishing poles on the nearby beach, providing a unique photo opportunity. I tried their lunch buffet and it offered a wide range of delicious dishes. The food was so good. The pool is a standout feature with its design resembling the ocean, creating a relaxing and picturesque setting. The staff's service is exceptional, ensuring you have a wonderful experience. Our stay of two nights in The Fortress was amazingly a fabulous experience. The Beach Room we stayed was cozy and elegant.We could easily access to pool and beach. The private veranda was so quite and peaceful to sit and read my favorite book with a sip of coffee. The bed was placed to relax and see the sunsets overlooking the infinity pool and the ocean. Spacious bathroom embellished with a marble tiled rain shower and a Jacuzzi was so relaxing. The food was delicious and fresh. The staff were attentive and went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable.The infinity edge pool was so relaxing. Once you get tired of it you can enjoy the natural ocean rock pool and watch the turtles on the beach in evenings too. Specially appreciate the cleanliness in the hotel ,garden and beach. As we checked in on our daughter's birthday they have made a beautiful complimentary birthday cake and lovely birthday decorations in the room. Special thank should go for that. We enjoyed a lot and highly recommended the place.

Would have loved to stay there but only visited for dinner. Beautiful location right on the ocean, with magnificent pool & gardens. Restaurant is under hotel with tables under the trees providing pool, ocean & sunset views. Hotel is newish but designed to look old Food was best we ate in Sri Lanka - bit more expensive reflecting quality & location. Staff were ok - thought would have been better considering hotel.

Gorgeous place to relax. The Ocean rooms are stunning. Just a slight word of warning, Saturday night is Seafood night. Food is superb, but you pay a lot to stay in a place like this, and they open the doors to everyone. We had to fight for food and the non hotel guests were rude, to say the least. Every other thing about this place was magical.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this hotel. We had such a fabulous stay here last weekend and we loved everything about it. The big spacious rooms, the endless pristine pools, the serene sandy beaches and most importantly the amazing massages at Spa Naturel were rejuvenating. Also worthy to mention that their staff is very friendly and accommodating. They provide a great service and ensure that all their guests are well taken care of. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely visit again.

This was my favourite hotel I've ever stayed in. The people were simply wonderful and so friendly and kind. Upon arrival, they upgraded our room because it was our anniversary, and it really made our trip. They also made us a CAKE! They were so wonderful in everything they did, and we appreciate them so much. The room was so nice, with splendid views of the ocean, the pool was perfect, and the food was delicious. I highly recommend this hotel!!! Thank you so much!

The food was good and it was well served and everyone enjoyed it. They messed up the first meal and the staff quickly understood we were on a training and the food timings were different from regular visitors. Later it was well coordinated and the staff was accommodating and courteous too. 👍

We recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at this hotel and it was nothing short of a disaster. We came at 1 am after 4 hours car trip, COMPLETELY tired and exhausted. 1) Night manager was absolutely unprofessional. He was doing check in for 60 minutes only for us (2 guests)!!! CAN you imagine that ?!! He made us standing 1 hour more at the reception desk !!! 2) Inside the room: the phone didnt`t work properly. We were trying to call a room service to order food. But some stuff on the other side was continuously cutting off the phone. 3) Kitchen dishes inside the room were also unclean and dirty. All itself was far from the sanctuary and order. Overall, my strong recommendation: BETTER to look elsewhere for accommodations and SAVE your time & energy!

Absolutely amazing experience. We went to there for our honeymoon and I am so glad I chose Fortress. The resort, the environment, the lodgings were all truly 5 star. Location - It's right on the beachfront and you can hear the waves all day. It's really soothing and tranquil. Going through the massive entrance doorway feels like stepping into an entirely different world. Rooms - We reserved a Beach Splash Room. The room is very large and spacious, almost the size of a mini apartment. The plunge pool was clean, spacious, and nice. The bathroom was also quite spacious and had a jacuzzi which was heavenly. The bed and pillows were so soft it's really hard to get out of bed in the morning. Staff - Everyone was super friendly and very accomodating. All our needs were immediately taken care of. House keeping came around twice a day. I can't praise everyone enough for making us feel welcome and pampered. Dining - The White restaurant has some exquisite dishes for in house dining. They also have in room dining available, although dining at the restaurant feels best with the wind and ocean sounds. The Prawn Threeway is especially good. On Saturday during our stay they had the seafood BBQ buffet for dinner, which was superb. The food was amazing and everyone was quite pleasant and helpful. Amenities - There is a large pool which stretches almost the entire span of the resort, and is placed near the beachside edge. It's divided into a few sections and you can enjoy a nice sea view from one of the corner sections. They also have a spa which we didn't get to try this time (but will definitely do next time). One thing to note is, the water is heavily chlorinated. This is not something to do with the resort, but the municipal water system, due to the requirements for the area. When filling up the jacuzzi, the hot water initially had a slight yellowish hue, but once you let the water flow for about half an hour it clears up and then you can fill up the jacuzzi. Once again, this is not an issue with the resort and the staff were very helpful in clearing this up and helping with the jacuzzi. We definitely plan to visit again and I would recommend this gem to anyone looking for a nice vacation down south.

They have cabanas and two classic rooms. They are all spacious and has necessary facilities. Food is delicious and great quantity..owner babra and staff are very friendly...nice view and great location. Totally worth for the money you spend..

We were in a beach view room, looked over the beach and pool from our balcony. The room was beautiful and had everything you could possibly need - all toiletries, rainfall shower, normal shower, free standing jacuzzi bath, pillow menu. We had laundry done here as we were heading to the Maldives as our next destination - highly recommend as the price was very reasonable (especially compared to the Maldives) and the service was amazing, very quick. We loved the food - we found there was a lot of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Spend 2 nights at Fortress during the last week. Ocean loft room they offered was enormous with a breathtaking view of the ocean, The location is amazing, cleanliness of the hotel is star class. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Looking forward to come again.

We had lunch at the restaurant. The food was excellent and the staff impeccable. But that's not the only reason for five stars. Earlier the same day we lost a cell phone at the beach in front of the hotel, and staff and manager went out of their way to retrieve it. Above and beyond expectations and we cannot thank them enough for this.

The apartment was clean with comfy bed. Spacious bathroom with double sinks and jacuzzi reminscing the Imperial hotel in Tokoyo.The pool and ocean view from the room balcony was very good. Happy hour, Dinner and Breakfast were great. Customer care at every level was beyond my expectations. Authentic Sri Lankan hospitality !

Checked in late due to late arrival flight. The morning lady came to welcome me and showed amenities. I asked her to show me how to turn TV on. She never did. Any request I have made- change room- first it will cost more then another agent stated its not available. I asked about hot water and the lady insisted after 2-3 minutes it gets hot. It still is Luke warm when I returned today after an excursion. Then there was bird feather and poop on floor. A small insect on my pillow and still the TV could not be turned on. Finally someone came and did turn it on. Water is still Luke warm and hopefully it does warm up Location- view is great - can see Indian Ocean. But too far from everything. Anywhere from3-6 hrs depends on where you want to go and sight see. Good location to suck F and relax on beach. Hopefully their customer service improves

🚫PACKAGES ADVERTISED NOT AVAILABLE ✖️STAFF ARE DISHONEST We visited the spa (in person) to confirm an Ayurvedic treatment package that we had found online, the lady booked us in for the following day, showed us some of the facilities and we were excited for it... until the following day... when we arrived we were told that the package we booked did not exist and that every treatment would be individually charged... their team made my wife feel like a liar even though their spa attendant had played along the whole time, booking us into a "package" that wasn't even available

Traveling up and down the coast, I decided to see what the menu was like and also if they were still open during the Curfew period for the locals(1 weekend in March 2022) yes was the reply so I walked under the huge pillars greated by a stunning view of the Indian ocean and a very grand pool, kids and adults accommodated for (and birds might I add and lots of them bathing this was around 5pm) I sat outside both menus have a good choice, food similarly priced to establishments along the coast in this area, good variety of foods to accommodate most palettes, drinks definately a larger variety & draft Lion beer available, I was riding the scooter so the pot of Tea for me, this was a very good size and a strong brew also, milk seperate and sugar as requested, themed nights seemed to be quite regular looking at the Monday to Friday itinery listed, some good variety of food and music including live events on some evenings threw out the week. I have been back since and was slightly disappointed the pot size had reduced from my previous visit. But still a good cup of Tea.

One of the best hotels we have ever been to. My wife, our daughter and myself stayed there for 3 nights and everything was perfect. The good is great, great hospitality and the ambience is breathtaking. The staff is super helpful and friendly!

One of the best hotels we've ever been to. They have some lovely beach view rooms. Well worth the price. Their buffet is wonderful and they have a wide variety of food options. And they always change the layout for each meal giving it a newness always. The spa and sauna was wonderful as well. People who come here should definitely try it out. Fantastic staff and service too. Kudos to the hotel management.

One of a beat place that I ever spent my time. The buffet was great and had variety if food same as in the buffets in colombo. They were so yummy and were in good quality. The staff is very friendly and gave the best service. Room was very comfortable and had all the facilities that we needed. Highly recommend for honeymoon or holidays for couples and families. There are nice views at the sea side with swimming pool and the garden. The security staff also very efficient and they welcome us according to the quarantine rules. Thank you fortress!

Stayed at this place few months back and one of the most scenic hotel in South. Love the architectural design of there. We stayed in a room with a private pool and it was well cleaned and tidy. View was amazing.Child friendly hotel. Unfortunately I missed the chance to get a spa treatment from this place. Service and the food is top notch. Defineatly visit this place again ❤️

Have just come back after spending 5 days at the Fortress. What can I say absolutely beautiful hotel looking over the Indian Ocean. Rooms were amazing with a view of the sea. Well equipped with fridge, stand alone bath etc. Room was cleaned every day. Staff were so welcoming and went out of their way for us. As soon as they realised we were vegetarian the chef came to see if everything was ok and made extra for us at the Buffett. Staff made sure they got to know us and spoke to us regular. Always polite, took us to see the turtles and got us aloe Vera plants for our sunburn. Galle can be visited by tuk tuk, this can be arranged from the hotel. This is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at, shame we were not there longer. Would definitely recommend this hotel, was a perfect end to our holiday around Sri Lanka.

Breakfast was a la  carte and we were able to order  Sri Lankan and Western style food as per our wish. Food was delicious and had sufficient portions. Nice garden and pool area to relax and spend some quality time. Staff was very supportive and friendly. I loved our stay and would go once again.

We were very happy that they were able to accommodate a last minute booking for our party of 5. Pricey but amazing views from the beach front rooms. The hotel offers simplistic yet grand beauty. They have Large bathrooms and open and airy rooms. The spa is very relaxing and hidden to help enhance relaxation. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The gym can use a major update. The food, mainly dinners, were lackluster and I hope they improve on this in the future especially given the price of the stay. The phones in both of our rooms didn’t work which was annoying when trying to communicate with staff. The tv in my room was frozen and because of this I couldn’t wind down with some tv at night.

If you're wondering what room category to go with, I'd recommend you to go for an ocean view/ beach view one. A baby travelled with us and we were able to get baby food without any extra charges as well. The staff was extremely helpful..

The hotel situated in a beautiful atmosphere and the staff friendliness is beyond words first time we had this kind of service. When we call house keeping within 5 minutes they are at the door. Staff all the time with a smile. Food is excellent.

We went in end July with the family on BnB. Room was really good and specious. So was the bathroom. There was a jacuzzi bath tub as well. Rooms had a slight dampness may be due to sea breeze. There was a beautiful sea view from the room and we were able to spot  a lot of turtles as well. Came year for first time since pandemic on Christmas Eve for a relaxed lunch. Asaila was very obliging in making our short visit memorable and the staff were lovely too. We enjoyed the cool welcome drink in the heat. Had fries with grilled fish - yum! I'm sure I'll return.

One of the best boutique hotels in the entire south coast. Loved everything about this place. The fortress room is huge. More like a suite with wooden flooring and outdoor garden. The staff here are super efficient and friendly. The pools and beach is also nice. Best thing was the selection of food. Premium quality products and fresh. We enjoyed the sea food dinner buffet very much. Highly recommended.

I rarely write reviews nowadays, but felt like this hotel deserves one! Everything about this hotel is perfect and what stands out above all is the service and the people. Everyone is just so friendly and at your service. We got the feeling that everyone genuinely enjoyed their job. Rooms and amenities were superb. Breakfast was delicious. They even made us a cake, bed decorations with flowers and balloons because it was our wedding anniversary, without any additional charge. Value for money as well. I will definitely come back!
