This beautiful Kovil for Hindu devotees is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated in Kaluwella in the Galle town area, next to the Galle municipal council hall just a few yards from the Galle-Colombo (A2) main route. This Kovil displays unique and intricate carvings and architectural features on its exterior and is believed to be 145 years old, being built in 1877. This is also said to be the only Shiva Kovil in the Southern region of Sri Lanka. The Kovil annual festival is held in April and this historical landmark will be an interesting stop when in Galle.

Sri meenachi sundareshwarar temple is situated in the heart of galle. It’s a shivan temple. Well architecturally built. Still not completed. This is near galle fort. This is an ancient temple. Now renovations are going on, evenings around 6-6.30 pm and morning around 6.30-7am poojas take place. I would recommend this place as this temple gives a lot of positive energy and good vibes. There is a hall where you can do meditation in this temple.

A very interesting temple. Unfortunately, it was undergoing renovation during our visit, so we were unable to see its interior.

It looks like it is being expanded or renovated - we don't go in so as not to disturb it. It looks interesting from the outside.

Make sure to cover your knees and shoulders, out of respect to the believe, so no crop tops or super short pants! Lovely to see! We visited for a short time.

Oldest Loard Shiva temple in down south Sri Lanka. One of the Eashwaram in Sri Lanka and known for its historical value.

We spotted this temple from outside Galle station and we went in as it looked beautiful. The temple looks big from outside, but only the Shiva linga, Meenakshi and Navagrahas shrines are currently in place. All the other 'Sannidhis' are still under construction (renovation). Not very crowded and there was no Pujari who was doing any Aarti when we went.

Amazingly beautiful Hindu temple. 🛕 We weren’t able to get inside, but it’s also worth it to look at it from the outside.

The temple is very beautiful. But now it is under renovation. However, it is still worth walking around it and admiring the wonderful architecture.
