This place has stunning views of the gorgeous Indian ocean and an absolutely beautiful natural pool! However, the current management of the restaurant/hotel leaves a lot to be desired. We had a one night stay and the room they offered us smelled so bad, it made me nauseous. Alas, we found a tray of rotting food and two boxes of rotting milk in the mini fridge which probably hadn’t been open in days. Once we complained, they gave us a different room that did not have the view we asked for. That room had broken light fixtures in the bathroom. (It was after 10pm and too late for us to find another hotel). We left disappointed and sad. Such a waste of a lovely location! The manager did offer us a Rs. 3000 discount when we complained again the following morning, but we received no sincere apology. Not impressed. P.S. Don’t use the glasses at their restaurant either. They smelled quite bad and we drank straight from the bottles.

Recently visited the restaurant with a friend in the evening. I had one of the worst restaurant experience ever. The waiter was really unhelpful and had the most ego (or sort of something like that) I ever experienced. He approached us with unwelcoming behavior which made us think we made a mistake by being there anymore. I have never added any bad review to any restaurant before but I thought I must let others know of my own experience here. Food was no good even though the prices were upto the somewhat expensive compared to other restaurants nearby. Do not recommend for anyone.

Lakraj Hotel is perfectly located: Ocean front and walking distance from all the activities you'll love to do in Matara (turtle snorkeling, beaches, parties, yoga, shopping). The staff is kind and available to accommodate: late check out, booking a tuktuk, good advice for activities. The food served in the hotel restaurant is delicious: I would advice to order a little bit in advance because home-cooked meals can take time. The rooms are perfectly clean and the ocean view is breath-taking. View from the terrace at sunrise is very special. Only minus points : rooms are a bit impersonal and wifi doesn't work in rooms.

We really LOVE this place. This is a friendly request towards the management. Because, we want to come back and enjoy your facility. THIS PLACE NEEDS A LITTLE BIT OF AN UPGRADE. The water break “Ocean water pool” needs it’s small to medium size stones and rocks removed so we can easily walk back and forth without hurting our feet. The ladies outside bathroom door needs a new lock so we can close the door while using it. Also please keep it from smelling. You should also use LESS vegetable oil/palm oil and USE MORE GOOD COCONUT OIL in your cooking. ADVERTISE saying that you are using REAL Coconut oil and you will have more and more clients. The food will taste better too. It will help your business to grow. Even if you charge a bit more. Still we’ll come. Because....., we LOVE LAKRAJ HOTEL. And we will come back again and again. Reminding once again..., Please Have your Ocean water pool free of stones and rocks. Thank you and all the BEST..!

We had one of the worst restaurant experiences here. Hotel was not busy at all. We were there for lunch and staff took our order. Spent more than one hour there for our meals. Whenever asked they said it won't take more time and will provide ours soon. Those who came after us got thier meals but we never had. We had to leave the place without even informing the staff. It was very unprofessional how they treat their customers. Never recommend such customer service.

Spectacular sea view. They built a natural looking pool attached to the sea gives you a different vibe. Plenty of sitting area facing the sea. Food is great but expensive. (French fries costs 750/=) staff is friendly and quick. Order your food early as possible coz they happen to to take a bit of time to prepare.

Extremely bad service. They went to find ice after we ordered soft drinks. Had to wait more than 1 hour for 3 lime juices and 2 iced teas.

I paid $60 for a superior room and around 4000 LKR for food for 2 people. I was told that many of the items on the menu are not available. Food was good, but it took 30 minutes to arrive. The rooms are very basic. The floor is very dirty and will leave your feet and socks black. There are 3 lights in the bathroom, but only one was working. It was very hard to see in the shower at night with no lights. I informed them of this immediately and they said they would attend to it, but they never returned. I left the air conditioning left on overnight, but it still didn’t cool the room. In the morning, the water was off. I had to call them to turn it on. In the daylight I also noticed there’s a lot of ants and rubbish outside the balcony. And the WiFi was not working in the morning. I informed them, but yet again they disappeared and didn’t return. So I had to purchase my own wifi so I could work on my laptop. Disappointing experience and not worth $60 a night, which is the same price as a 4 star hotel in Colombo.

Beautiful place to visit in polhena !! , Friendly staff and supportive . You have two options when bathing either to use a natural pool or go with the sea. I could rate rooms as 3/5 (basic) due to some unclean floor, there was only one cup for tea and didn't have proper lighting in the room. That's only the negative point i saw during my visit ,other than that everything was fine for us. Looking to visit again!

Nice stay. Food and staff are friendly and helpful. There is a safe place to sea bath as well with less deeper area.

Great vibe and has a very nice ocean pool. Should definitely check it out. In a very peaceful area though it's a little away from the mainroad
