The Rex Museum is one of those nice little "hole in the wall" museums that has alot of local history and is staffed by locals who have an abiding lifelong interest in their local history. I definitely recommend it. It is also noteworthy that the Building it self has its fair share of history. For many years this building (300 W 66th) was the location of Tom's Variety & Hobby Supply. Tom's Variety was the local Model Airplane supply store and home to the Gallup Model Airplane Club. Tom's Variety was owned and operated by Ed Shibata, a local born first generation Japanese American, and decorated WWII combat veteran of the 442 combat infantry battalion, which is the most highly decorated unit in American mitary history. Ed was a wonderful kind hearted person who took the time to help peolle of all ages to learn the ropes of building and flying model airplanes.

The review is for the historical building, sign, and murals only as the museum was closed even though it was Saturday.

Enjoyed visiting the museum. Worker there is very nice and friendly. He knew about the history and was able to answer our questions without feeling obligated. Loved to see the history and actually read old pieces that are hard to find. Was worth stopping by!

The museum is staffed by a very friendly guy who has lots of information to share about Gallup, Native Americans. It is full of interesting artefacts from the local area. Please visit to support a small, independent museum.

Thr City pf Gallup needs to update the City's Museum amd get a bigger biulding, like the Old Post Office whereP the cable company is now, put some great use to that historical building that has some great ceiling wood work, Gallup has more hidden history. Gallup jas alot of native American history in this town that is left out, and back when the RR was being built there workers were also Chinese that worked on the RR there is alot of history that citizens of Gallup have that in picture's, books, letters and antics. People want to know our town.

This was a waste of time, except for a fascinating conversation with the Navajo gentleman who worked there. Displays thrown together. And boring and sparse. Should have a native american museum in that space instead, not another boring railroad, WWII museum.

Marginally interesting place to visit. No fee, only a suggested donation. The owners apparently like to keep quiet the most interesting footnote on this building, which is that it used to house a Gallup Bordello, way back in the day.

The museum is on the small side but loaded with history. We had the pleasure of having Virgil as a "tour guide" he was friendly and seemed knowledgeable of what was in the museum
