What a gem! My family and I stayed in the family/bridal suite. The room was extremely spacious and well priced. The bed was comfortable with fluffy pillows and good quality linens. Sure, the bathroom was a little small but big deal. I appreciated the little quirks throughout our room...the strangely numerous closets, the pull cord light in the bathroom, the vintage tile, the original windows. This place just oozes character and all of the employees that I observed really seem to enjoy their work. The restaurant is decent. The gift shop is a delight. The building itself is needing a little love but it looks like that may be in the works. I got the feeling that this place isn't currently living up to it's full potential but that it really wants to. Overall, we can't wait to come back the next time we trek across the southwest.

Looking for a WONDERFUL place to stay? This is the right place. It was warm (love the lobby fireplace setting), it was very comfortable (great beds), the shower was great, and the second floor seating area was relaxing. Looking for Rt 66 Americana that is not too "old" then this is THE place to stay in Gallup. We are going to be returning for future trips through the area. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has excellent food. Bathroom space was a bit small but the shower had ample room.

This was our second time staying here with our four-legged friend. There's plenty of spaces to hang out in the common areas, whether to read a book, have a conversation, or just relax. They typically have a fire going in their fireplace at night, which is very cozy. There is a huge balcony that overlooks the entrance with rocking chairs to sit in (great for mornings). The first time we visited was during COVID. We rolled in 20 minutes before the kitchen closed. Staff were very accommodating. They brought our meal and 4 margaritas to our room! It was amazing! We returned with hopes of reliving that night but were disappointed about new liquor laws (it's out of their hands). Regardless, this hotel is homey. It's not the most up to date, but it gives an invaluable experience of yesterday. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Would stay here again.

What a blast from the past! The rooms were bleeding yesteryear, and the staff… what great local folks! I want to share just a quick example, when we were checking out and going out and getting into our car, the housekeeping gal came running out to our car and said ma’am, where are you in room 506? My wife said yes, and she handed us my wife’s expensive necklace to her that we would have forgotten had she not brought it out to us! First class service folks… first class!

I love this hotel! I was a bit unsure about staying here at first from reading some of the reviews. Yes the rooms are a bit on the small side, yes the bathroom is small but don’t let that get in the way of the amazing hospitality and warmth of this place. The rooms are cosy and comfortable. And I love the theme and the history of the hotel. Sitting in the lobby with the beautiful warm fire and Christmas tree was a fantastic way to end the day. All the staff were so warm and welcoming especially Leroy, he was a wealth of information. We will be back again

I'm giving three stars solely based on how sweet the ladies at the front desk were. I wish I could remember their names... I think Kim was one of them? She was very helpful, knowledgeable, and beyond pleasant. She was kind enough to watch out for me while I was loading up my luggage cart to help me with the door-it was sprinkling. I really liked her. The hotel itself is nostalgic, clean, and cute. If you don't mind access to modern conveniences and various amenities, it's a nice option. For me, it was too small because I was traveling with two cats. My room was tiny (I'm sure it stated online the size but I neglected to pay attention), the restroom even smaller, one of the lamps on the nightstand didn't work, not a lot of outlets to plug in chargers and no desk if you need to work. There's a ceiling fan, which is nice, but you have to stand on the bed to turn it on and off...unless I'm dumb and just missed the switch. I was a little disappointed upon leaving as well. I checked out at 5:30am, had my luggage cart stacked high with my cats and luggage, it was still dark outside...the guy at the desk didn't even attempt to hold the door open for me and clearly help would've been much appreciated. When I remarked that my stay was just "Okay" when he inquired-didn't further engage me as to why it was just "Okay." He wasn't busy from what I could see, I was the only one wandering around...not great customer service at all. The ladies at check in were far superior and incredibly sweet. I wouldn't stay here again unfortunately.

Such a wonderful place to stay! Love the history, the friendliness of the staff, the restaurant. I loved browsing the pictures, and enjoying the fire in the lobby. Wish we could have stayed longer. This was a highlight on our road trip from Texas to Oregon. I hope I can come again someday!

If you like history this is a great place to stay. It is beautiful. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are small but clean. The bathroom in my room was so small when I got out of the shower I had to get dressed in the room because I could not move around. However, it was very clean, had hot water and the shower pressure was very good. The rooms were small but it had a good bed. Not high quality hotel bed but it was a good and comfortable bed. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely stay here again.

What a gem! The decor is outstanding! The staff is friendly, and the rooms are all modern but still have the old-time feel. Only had breakfast in the restaurant, but it was good. You can reasonably walk to the downtown district if you like. Definitely worth the stop on Route 66, and I will certainly be coming back.

The staff is super friendly. So much history in this hotel! I even had a haunted moment in my room, but it was expected. Found out an episode of Ghost Adventures was filmed there. I highly recommend staying here. It’s like going back in time. Enjoy!

Amazing front desk staff, one of a kind hotel. You definitely take a step back in time and it’s worth the detour. We stayed in the presidential suite. It’s stunning. The room was clean and well presented. Odd though that we couldn’t use the closets. The only issue we found with the hotel was its location. There isn’t really much to do in Gallup. Great stop otherwise.

Loved this kitsch hotel. Our room was compact but really comfortable, air conditioned and a good walk in shower. Reception staff were the absolute best - friendly and helpful. Top tip eat at Jerry's Cafe a 15 minute walk away for really great Mexican food!

This is probably the most beautiful hotel I've ever been to and their drinks are fire at the hotel bar. Everything has a cool, classic western aesthetic with historic charm. The rooms are a little small which did not at all bother me because everything was super clean and very well furnished, I'd just keep that in mind if you are traveling with a large group or family. The only downside is their 35lb weight limit for pets that is irregularly enforced so keep that in mind when booking especially if you're traveling with pets.

Nice old school Hollywood hotel. Felt more like Taos than Gallup due to the decor. Rooms in the main hotel are named for a star from the Golden Age of Hollywood. We had a small room with a king bed but the decor was nice and we had a balcony facing the parking lot and the street which was fun to sit and people watch in the evening. Great pool and attached restaurant had lots of good choices. Will come back for a quick getaway.

El Rancho Hotel is definitely well-marketed, and lives up to most of it! The great room is stunning in the morning, the staff - Chris at the front-desk - and several others were very helpful, and the hot water is immediately hot! Each room is decorated with a movie star. Our room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Maintenance could be improved - for example, I know it's a historic hotel, but tubs, tiles and sinks need to be improved. The front desk appeared to be missing some sort of decorative pieces...and the oak curios wrapping the pillars in the great room don't match and need to go! Overall, a very neat place!

Very nice stay at the El Rancho Hotel. Had a scheduling change which the staff was able to accommodate readily. Others have written about the history and decor so won’t repeat anything here. Well worth seeing. The rooms have recently been refurbished and was all done in the correct style. Rooms are smaller than a newer place, but that is far outweighed by the experience of staying in a place with character vs some generic spot

This place is amazing. Fantastic room, epic lobby, great restaurant. So much history and atmosphere but with all mod cons. And extremely affordable too! If only all hotels in America had the same standards and operating model - this place has cracked it; very few places in this price bracket can compete.

“When in Rome do as the Romans do” or something like that…. It’s worth staying. So historic. Our room was small but nicely remodeled and efficient remodeled bathroom with great shower. Next time I might go for the comfort of a chain but got to stay here at least once if you happen to be passing thru .

Very historical place. Some parts are beautiful however the bathrooms are very small and the one we were in needed some maintenance. The paint on the tub was coming off and the toilet appeared to be cracked. The rooms have one or two outlets. Yes I understand it's old but the hotel was supposedly updated in the 80's. It makes it a bit difficult. We ate in the restaurant. The guacamole and chips never arrived. The steak salad was good however the steak had grizzle. The waitress was not very attentive. The hotel does not serve coffee unless you have breakfast there. I had to run out in the morning (I'm an early riser) to a local coffee hut (Java drip, very good) to have coffee in the morning.

This is a historic hotel, so some amenities may not be available (no AC, no hair dryer). Also, the rooms and their bathrooms are smaller than the modern ones. However, the hotel compensates with the historic photos, furniture, paintings, and maps present in the hallways and lobby. A great place to stay for those passionate about 1940s movies. Each room is named after a movie star and in the room you'll find a bio for that person (if you didntrecognize the name). To get to the upper floors you can take the stairs or if you have luggage), take thr old-style elevator. See video. There is a great restaurant and bar on the premises and also an Indian souvenir store.

What a delightful stop over! The hotel is not only full of history and charm but great room option for our family and such friendly staff. The details in each theme room are so cool and I just loved the feel and history being shown off. We only stayed on night as it was a road trip stop over. We had hoped to have breakfast at the restaurant but a tour bus showed up and with one waitress run off her feet we headed out. Overall if you are in Gallup this is a great place to rest and enjoy.

Incredible hotel filled with lots of history. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. We spent an hour just looking around the hotel at all the movie star photos. Very cool. The restaurant was great. One drawback- our room didn't have very hot water in the shower. I'm sure we could have asked to have that fixed but we were on a tight schedule so we didn't bother.

Gallup NM does not have a better hotel. This place has it all. It's historic and has had movie stars from the westerns walking these halls. If the walls could talk they would tell some great stories I'm sure. The room was comfortable and had every amenity that one could want. I stayed in the John Wayne Suite so it may have had a little more than a regular room but for the extra money it was definitely worth it. I would drive through Gallup just to come back because it was a great experience. Highly recommend staying here and checking out the John Wayne Suite. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

The decorations at this hotel and the staff make it a 5 star experience. It feels like a Route 66 icon from the lobby decor and room names of old Hollywood stars. The bar offers some great local beers, the restaurant is fast and fine. The basic rooms can be small but for a night of relaxing it works for a comfortable and quiet place to sleep. We were lucky enough to stay around the holidays and the lobby tree was beautiful. Staff is really helpful and kind. Dog friendly with really reasonable pet fees. Totally worth a stop and a night while passing through Gallup.

What a cool experience. It was like stepping back in time. This hotel has so much history and is one of a kind. Each room is named for a movie star of the past and there is a card that tells what they were famous for. Also the lobby is one of a kind and decorated in old west theme with hundreds of pics of Stars of the past that have stayed here. There web site is spot on as far as what you get with the rooms. My only complaint was that the bathroom was tiny but this was clearly the case from their website.

Historic hotel with western vibe. Most of the staff at the service desk were pleasant. There was one woman when we asked for help with the elevator that got an attitude. Actually rolled her eyes when she opened the door for us. The elevator is ancient and slow. They need to give instructions on use! The room was not set up well. They had a king sized bed crammed into a space so you had to crawl into it. A queen size would have been more appropriate. The bathroom was very small. You could brush your teeth while sitting on the toilet. I cannot even imagine a plus size person being comfortable in it. Overall the atmosphere was amazing. Just need to rethink some of the options. Last note, the restaurant was good and our waiter was amazing!

We had a fantastic couple of days here. First, we kind of stumped upon this hotel. I read some reviews that made me think twice. Once we entered the facility everything I read went out the door!! What a lovely place to stay. I'm so glad they could accommodate us for 2 days! The hotel should be proud of their staff. We felt they go above and beyond what is expected. Mind you our bathroom was a bit small but it's the experience we were after. Thank you to all!

It’s an old hotel built in the thirties, but it’s recently been renovated. Rooms are small and cramped. The atmosphere is rustic. Western stars stayed here while making movies. All the rooms have Hollywood star’s names and themes in the individual rooms. The newly expanded restaurant and bar makes a great addition. The gift shop is also a great place to pick up a souvenir. As a side note this area is has a lot of panhandling going in the parking lot. This time we came here the added a security guard to patrol the lot.

It is an experience, not just a stay. The rooms have an old charm and are decorated in southwest decor. The architecture is beautiful and intriguing. The staff is welcoming and polite , very professional. Oh the rooms are smaller than modern rooms. But they are clean and charming, very cozy. The bath and showers are beautifully tiled with modern updates. Do yourself a favor. Pull off in Gallup, check in early and experience this at least once, if you love the southwest this place is for you

It’s so hard to ever get a perfect stay these days. If the restaurant staff was as nice as everyone, or at least been civil this could have been perfect. Rooms spot on, pool area is great, the lobby is fantastic and great people watching. Definitely stay here but eat somewhere else

Nice small business. Wonderful staff and great price. Down side would be the size of the bathroom; it's a closet. But, the personality of the hotel makes up for it in spades. Also pet friendly! What makes this 6 stars is the lounge and restaurant. The breakfast was exceptional. Their fried eggs over brisket and the Santa fe sandwich were over the top.

This place is amazing! The staff was super friendly with clean rooms. I loved the decorations in my room and learning the history of this hotel. If you're going through Gallup, it's well worth spending the night! The restaurant was also excellent!

What a historical gem! We enjoyed spending time in the cozy lobby, which has a wood-burning fireplace with plenty of comfortable seating. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, updated, and comfortable. As other reviewers have mentioned, the bathrooms are a bit tight, but that’s to be expected with a historic building. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

We slept here during our August 2022 road trip from Chicago to LA, along the mythical Route 66. We booked this hotel well in advance to make sure to find a room in here. Everything about the hotel is fantastic: the exterior (especially at night with all the neon lights on!), the interiors which throw you back in the Western period, the room very stylish and original, and the restaurant serving delicious local food. Also the price we found it very reasonable. I highly recommend everybody traveling in New Mexico to stop in this wonderful hotel and enjoy this classic experience. Great compliments to the local staff...everything was perfect!
