I read the reviews after I booked and was ready to come armed with a can of Raid with people saying how there were cockroaches in the room. When checking in I asked do I need to spray for roaches and the guy said , " No, we got it taken care of " Yes, from the outside the hotel has blemishes and can really use to be painted. The doors to the rooms have cracking , peeling paint and the iron fencing around the upper levels need paint but once inside the room it was fine. The interior of the room was nice. People complained how dirty the floors were. You are at a hotel on the beach, there will be sand tracked in. You should see my car. That sand is so fine its like powdered sugar almost, you can not wipe it away. The bottom if the tub was worn looking but clean could use to be refinished but everything else was great. The guy was there cleaning the pool and checking the chemicals every morning by 8. The people on all shifts at the front desk were friendly and accommodating. And being across from the beach, right by the crosswalk was perfect! We actually added an additional night to our stay and will be back in the future.

Good service, bad room. Look nice but if you really look, you'll see filth. And we also found a roach😲I'd say they quickly sweep, change sheets and wipe the bathroom down but they don't do any deep cleaning (look under the beds)and they charge you for parking 😳

Check in was good although they only had one staff manning the desk on a Saturday afternoon. She was super nice and did the best she could to get everyone taken care of. Room was ground floor and steps from the beach...couldn't believe how close to the beach I got for the good price I paid for the room. Room was super clean and air conditioner was cold. Breakfast was decent, but basic....waffles, yogurt, juice, coffee, and some bread to toast. One morning there were no bagels and that was probably the only complaint I have about this place.

You get what you pay for with this hotel. It's not expensive, but it is right on the beach. What makes it 4 star is the ladies working the front desk. Huge shout out to them doing everything they could to get me into a room sooner than check in time since I had been up for 27 hours and drove 13 of those. If we come back to Galveston, we will stay here simply because of the great service. At the end of the day, it's just a place to rest your head at night.

used discount website to book a room for 2 nights and got a reasonable price. because it's not worth the official price to be frank. That being said, it is a fantastic spot right across the street from the ocean, you can see the beach from your window. Service is great, they have breakfast (mini muffins are pretty decent), room was fairly clean and equipped with fridge, coffee machine, cable tv, microwave. they had enough towels and products (i would have preferred a shower gel instead of a soap). Saw 1 tiny roach that disappeared right away but i was on 3rd floor so i guess they do climb that high. Building is really old and totally needs to be refreshed with a fresh coat of paint everywhere and some extra maintenance here and there. but I slept really good and it was a nice stay with an overall nice price.

I thought I was booking a decent hotel for a weekend getaway. Front desk personnel was very nice and professional. However, upon driving to park near our room, I wanted to leave. Very bad parking facilities. But the worse part was the water leakage condensation from all the window units. Water was on the sidewalk, running off the sidewalk, just nasty! It appeared the walk way in front of the doors never gets swept or blown. The room was clean, I will give them that. Was happy to see it had a small fridge and microwave. Don't plan on staying here again.

We stayed here in 2019 then again this year in 2022. The hotel has gone downhill in three years, but it's a great location. Cleanliness was very disappointing. Dried spit on the bathroom mirror, dog hair everywhere, cracked sink badly patched. Sticky red drink spilled all over the back of the door and floor. Obviously they don't check behind the door when cleaning. The filters in the air conditioner were caked with dog hair, and the air conditioner sounded like a jet engine taking off repeatedly throughout the night. The hotel halls, stairs, patio and pool area floors were revolting. I watched for several days as a used women's razor plastic cover sat by the stairs. No housekeeping, so our room got more and more sandy until I had to ask for fresh sheets just to get a good night's sleep. Wet towels piled up. Broken elevator. Nearest ice machine was broken. Patio furniture falling apart, but great view to eat breakfast near ocean. Breakfast was nice. The pool was nice but area always sprinkled w trash. Staff were friendly. Beds and pillows were comfy. Ac was cold.

If I could give this place a -10 I absolutely would. Upon arrival, the gentleman at the front desk had only been there 5 days and seemed scattered. He couldn’t even tell me what side my room was on. When booking this hotel on line it DOES NOT tell you, you are required to pay for parking on the same property you just paid to stay at. Our room was on the third floor. As soon as we opened the door the smell of urine was everywhere. It was nasty!! Rooms weren’t clean and the entire building looked like it was just falling apart. Ice machines are broken, elevator is broken. Pool was nasty. This hotel may be convenient and right next to the beach but this is absolutely the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I do not recommend.

Booked and stayed for 2 nights. Loved the location, right across from the beach! I didn't read the reviews until after we arrived and I was a little scared from seeing some of the reviews. But, I checked the bed for bed bugs-there were not any. Our room was very clean, cleaner than some other "nicer" hotels I've checked into. Our whole stay, I did not see a single cockroach or any bugs in our hotel room. The breakfast was alright, just toast, waffles, cereal, coffee, juice and muffins but I've stayed at hotels that have offered a lot less than that or nothing at all due to whatever reason they had. I would definitely recommend for people to stay here for a weekend getaway. It's a nice place to sleep and relax between running around and it's not far from entertainment.

You get what you pay for... The ONLY good thing about this property is that it was directly across the street from the beach. This place was more of a cheap motel, which means a no frills motel. Should have been 25 a night. The property was dirty inside and out. Musty smell inside and horrible smoke smell outside. I'm not a smoker, so it stunk bad. I saw the cleaning lady cleaning but the rooms didn't look or smell clean. My room was on the 3rd floor, and of course, the elevator was out, which I knew that prior. The stairway was dirty, and the parking lot was trashy. The dumpster was full. Beds were hard, but like a said, it's definitely a cheap motel. There was gnats flying around. I wouldn't pay anymore than what I paid, and I still feel like I paid too much. Breakfast was very basic, thank goodness I wasn't planning on eating there. Pictures are always deceiving because I'm sure they are outdated. Pool was ok. You had to go inside for pool towels, which was dumb unless you knew beforehand. I know for future references and this won't be a place I'll stay again. This place needs a makeover bad.

The check in and customer service at the beginning was amazing! We were kinda sketched out because the hotel looked run down, but to our surprise the rooms were pretty nice! When we first arrived and looked around there were a few dead bugs. No big deal. We are by the water, surely they will come in? We left for a few hours and came back to get ready for bed and there were roaches in the bed, behind the bed. In our stuff! We had to throw our baby formula away because they somehow got inside of the can! We went to tell the front desk and all he said was bring me the keys if you want a refund. He was very nice, but didn't seem surprised! No! This is not okay!

This motel was perfectly located near the dock, where we boarded our ship.. It8not that bad if you don't mind sharing your room and food with roaches, which were everywhere...in the tub, on top of the desk, behind the nightstand and in the microwave. I was too nervous to sleep. Bring your own blankets and covers to lay on top of theirs because we found half of a roach under the blankets.

Do not stay here we were greeted poorly. Not only that but the room was disgusting sheets weren’t even made upon arriving. Couldn’t check in an hour early or would have to pay a 50$ fee. Also had to pay for parking in the hotel parking lot after already having to pay for a room at the hotel?? Makes total sense right. Waste of money book elsewhere

  • 1/5 Amanda D. 5 months ago on Google
This place is disgusting. The rooms were dirty, the beds had hair on the sheets when I pulled the covers back. There were no towels in the bathroom at all. There was hair all in the shower that wasn’t ours. Biggest kicker of all the ROACHES!! We flipped two of the clear cups over for them to see what we had to deal with. I will NEVER stay there again. The website definitely wasn’t what it said it was.

Location is across the beach which is always nice. The cleanliness is poor. We had a small roach come out of a towel we were going to use. The bathroom only have space for the toilet and the tub. The sink area is separate and open to the room. There were dirt or dust behind the curtains and on the air conditioner.

I don't even know where to begin. I made a reservation, but when I got there (early) to check in, I was informed that they don't really go by reservations. When people check in, they put them in a room, and fill the rooms in a certain order. Long story short, I didn't get anything close to what I "reserved". Instead of an ocean view, and I would have settled for a partial view, they put me in a room at the back of the hotel facing a neighborhood! My room was okay, but there were issues. The floor looked clean, but when I took off my shoes, it was clear that they weren't clean. The phone didn't work. There were small roaches in the room. They also charge $15/night for parking! I do not plan on staying in this hotel ever again! So many things I could go into detail about, but will save you time and just tell you, spend $5 or $10 more a night and get a better hotel. Plenty of hotels advertise free parking and a hot breakfast. Go for that and enjoy your time. I went to get away from things and to relax. Except for having a roach crawling on the back of my neck while sitting in a chair in my room, and the other multiple disappointments involving the hotel and my room, Galveston was nice. I have stayed at hotels all over the world, and this was the worst and most disappointing experience ever!! Next time I will definitely stay at a different hotel!

We had the kin and 2 double bed room (341) facing the ocean! The view and location was awesome! The room seemed clean until you saw all the dust behind bath mirror and the inside of the windows were filthy. The front desk never stood or barely acknowledged your presence. Definitely needs a makeover but otherwise it was great! Oh and the shower had NO pressure. A hose would have worked better!

We decided to book this hotel because the rooms were reasonable. The service was rough, the bathroom lights didn't work being that maintenance was closed until the next day we had to wait. They gave my husband a light bulb and told him to change it but the light bulb was the wrong one. We were also informed that next month people would have to pay to park at this hotel even though you are already paying to stay there. The location was the only good part. The check in was at 3 pm but they were not prepared for the rooms so the line was all the way outside even with reservations. While waiting in line people that were already staying there kept coming in saying they have been waiting since the day before for towels and supplies for the room. I also had decided we wanted to stay another day and the price has doubled so decided to go somewhere else. Not a great experience but it was a place to lay my head.

The rooms here are nasty. Don't let the edited pictures on the website or the Wyndham name fool you. The grounds are not being kept up. Trash everywhere outside. I had a bad feeling right away but we decided to check in and give it a shot. We found mold in the bathroom and dirt and stains everywhere else. I can't believe they are charging the prices they are. So many better options along the sea wall. The staff was pleasant, but we refused to stay here. Keep looking.

I see people leaving reviews that rooms where dirty and not up to standards.. our room was fine .. walk across street to beach!!! Accepted pets!! Pretty good breakfast. If your looking for better bang for your buck. You may want to find a 4 or 5 star hotels!! This was just what we needed and in our price range.

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. For starters, do not even believe the pictures that are posted. The hotel is not even close to what it is said to be on the pictures posted, even the recent ones. The rooms are very, very dirty. Housekeeping service is nearly non-existent. The quality of the breakfast is very poor. Air conditioning units are extremely loud. Bedrooms are full of bugs, cockroaches will probably crawl in bed with you while you are sleeping. The door to our room also gave us a lot of issues during our stay. We had to get our room keys replaced more than three times, thinking that the issue was the key. When we tried to open the door it would not. Eventually even after having our keys replaced the door still wouldn't open. We had to wait and stayed locked out of our room for about half an hour. if you value your money, please consider staying somewhere else and do not waste your money here, consider this place a last resort.

DESERVES NEGATIVE STARS !! Elevator did not work Ice machine did not work Sheets were stained But worse of all was feeling something on my arm in the middle of the night, turning on the light and seeing a roach on my arm in bed! Then going to the bathroom and dozens run across the bathtub and floor to hide when I turned on the light. So I turned on all the lights and saw them running all over the room. When I approached the front office with the fact that our hotel room was swarming with German cockroaches- I was told “You can always leave” They refused refund Do NOT stay here !!!! Better off sleeping in your car ( that’s what we ended up doing)

  • 2/5 G R. 2 years ago on Google
We stayed here with fairly low expectations that should have been easy to meet or exceed. The positives are that pets stay free and it is a good location, so a star each for those reasons. The rest of the experience was not good. The staff was rude and during breakfast spent the entire time arguing loudly with each other over something that had gone wrong the night before. The room was exactly how other low reviews have described. Dirty and poorly maintained are the best descriptions for this location. In the shower there was an exposed pipe that leaked the entire time we were there. There was mold throughout the bathroom. The pictures below show it best. I would pay the extra money to stay at a different hotel.

Great customer service & very friendly front desk staff! Clean room, no weird smells, love the updates. AC is cold and it feels safe. Not many crazies walking outside. TV works and channels aren’t terrible. Wifi is working well too! Amazing job. I’m actually impressed. I was just trying to book something affordable for a single night before cruise in am, was not expecting to be surprised by 5 star service and cleanliness. Please keep it up! Galveston needs clean nice affordable and safe places to stay right next to the beach!

Don’t even waist your time. I reserved a room at this place a month and half before coming here. Drove 9 hours from home to get to the beach. Supposed to have great room, view, etc. It’s a lie. The only good thing here was the nice lady at the front desk who was very helpful and tried her best even though she was doing over time. The thing about having roaches? Is true. They were everywhere and the rooms weren’t even clean. Don’t go there. Total waste of time and money.

  • 2/5 MariaD R. 1 year ago on Google
Location is the win here, the restroom in the room was small, our toilet was clogged and they didn't come to fix it. The front desk staff is nice but this hotel just gave me bad vibes since we arrived. The outside of the building is filthy. We didn't see any roaches inside our room despite the other reviews. Elevator doesn't work so good luck if you get the 3rd floor. Ice machine wasn't working. These hotel needs better maintenance to improve it's ratings. It surely needs more than 2 maintenance employees.

Sitting in the most disgusting room I’ve ever seen at 3 am to write this review. The smell of urine coming from the bathroom is like being in downtown Houston it’s making me sick!!! 🤢 There was a cup and hair ties on the floor that someone left and housekeeping obviously didn’t notice. We arrived and were told we are “lucky” to have arrived before the other people because they’d double booked our suite for 6 people so -where would we have slept in this case!? And where’d the poor other family go now in this case because the entire town is booked solid !? They don’t accept cash, which is ridiculous and not mentioned anywhere. The entire property is so nasty looking, falling apart and smells so horrible- I would never ever stay here again!!!

  • 1/5 C S. 6 months ago on Google
Where do I start... They put my parents on the wrong side instead of the ocean view that we reserved. Moved them up front but the ice machine doesn't work so have to go all the way to the back to get it. Had to settle for double beds instead of the king reserved. The key cards have to be reset several times because they quit working and lock you out of the room. Have to pay $10 for parking and it's nothing special. The coke machine takes your money. The cleaning crew takes your personal pillows but leaves the prior tenant's dirty underwear. Beds are ok, room was clean otherwise, and the location is nice. There's a Denny's very close by. I'm not sure it's much worse than most the other comparable hotels in the area, but there are at least others that don't charge parking.

Horrible experience! Staff was ghetto but polite. The room was moldy and needs renovation. Was charged and accused of taking 3 pillows without notice. I wouldn't recommend staying here!!

My family stayed here for just one night during our fall break vacation last month. We stayed at numerous Wyndham Hotels throughout Texas. This location was great, the hotel room was okay - but could definitely use some repairs. I was surprised upon check in when I was required to pay for parking (you have to pay before they will let you check in). Then the day after checking out I noticed an additional charge of $75! When I called to inquire what the charge was for they claimed I ripped a soap dispenser off the wall and stole it. False accusation. I tried to talk with the manger and I have never been treated with such rudeness and disrespect. Would not stay here again.

I recently stayed with my party of 12 at Wingate by Wyndham the night before our cruise on November 11. For the most part, this hotel was adequate; however, there are many aspects that did not meet my expectations. First and foremost, the front desk representative seemed inconvenienced whenever asked for a favor (such as a plunger) for two of our rooms that clearly had Sewer issues and were backing up. She seemed bother when we politely told her that the coffee in the breakfast area was running low. I highly value customer service, and I didn't receive it here. Additionally, pieces of the room seemed to be falling apart (the mirror was detached in our room, the shower didn't work in another, the TV needed repaired as it skewed the image, the fan in our bathroom was detached from the ceiling, and the bathrooms were some dirty (dusty and didn't look thoroughly cleaned), it concerned me of how clean the beds were. The coffee maker in the bedroom leaked onto its tray and didn't even brew (it just drained from the bottom). The vending machines only accepted card but didn't work and the front desk offered snacks/drinks, but they didn't accept cash. This was inconvenient. Two of the people in my party complained of roaches in their rooms (rooms 200 and 206, I believe), though I personally didn't see them. Though there were negative aspects, its proximity to the beach was nice, the pool seemed fairly clean, and it was fairly cheap. The only positive aspects of our stay here. Thankfully it was just one night. Probably will not stay here again if offered the opportunity.

The pictures are so incredibly misleading, you think you are getting something completely different than the reality. To start off, although the hotel is right on the beach, the entire building seems outdated and rusted. You walk into the lobby and the entire place has a musty, warm humid feel to it. The walls are all dirty, and bugs are crawling around you. There is no elevator, so if you have a room that is not on the first floor you will automatically have a hard time getting your luggage up there. As you head up to the rooms, you’re met with an extremely unclean environment. The smell is horrible, it smells like sewage and cigarettes. The sheets are all stained, ours had some questionable dark ones that we did not want to look into. The lamps are rusted, the bathrooms are not cleaned at all. The space is also significantly smaller than it looks in the pictures. Everything just seemed sticky. As we headed outside, we saw that the pool was entirely green. If you were hoping to go for a dive, rethink that decision. We were able to get a refund, but the place overall seemed more like a cheap motel than a hotel at all.

My family enjoyed our stay at Wingate by Wyndham the room was nice and clean. Everything worked well. The staff was nice and friendly. We will be back for sure. The price for our room was well worth it. The beach was across the street and Denny's was just next door.

  • 1/5 Adrienne B. 1 year ago on Google
This is the worse hotel I've ever been to! So I did get the email about the elevator not working because of "renovations". There were no renovations being done! The hotel looks nothing like the pictures! (Looks like a crack house) I went to go check the room before unloading the kids and luggage! Door was opened! Room was not cleaned! Bed was not made! Floors had not been swept or mopped! (Sand on the floor) Trash on the floor! NO OCEAN VIEW! The view was of the Denny's restaurant and the top of the hotel where you drive under! (Room was on 3rd floor) So when I mentioned it to Emmanuel, he said housekeeping had marked it as clean and would call me when it would be ready. I had already drove 5 hours so we were ready to check in and relax for a bit. I went back to the room to take pictures and videos and he didn't seem to care! He barely looked when I was trying to show him the evidence. So at this point I told him to refund my card! Horrible experience!

Very friendly staff! Great location across the street from beach. Room was fine . Coffee maker had a piece missing to hold coffee filter. I saw a couple of roaches , very much a beach hotel and worked fine. Had trouble using my room key to get into my room, most of the time.

This hotel was great for our 5 night stay over Christmas while visiting my sister. Check in/out was easy, the room was very clean/quiet, and I overall felt very safe. The staff were all very nice and it was an overall pleasant stay! I would definitely stay here again!!
