Had an awful experience at the huntsman, a table for 8 was booked for the family, booked a room in the Inn above, only to arrive at 8pm on the Sunday of a bank holiday and be told the best they could do was two tables of 4 with no guarantee of being sat remotely closely. All agreed before travelling to Galway only to be left searching for a restaurant to salvage the night on one of the busiest nights of the year. Room and bar were nice but I'd never step foot in the huntsman again, left shocked at the attitude of the manager and the situation, treated as if this was our problem as if our booking wasn't long confirmed. In the hour I spent looking for alternative locations for dinner, it was clear Covid regulations are not taken seriously here. There was no question of vaccine certs and masks seemed optional in this bar

Love the staff here, heard they ain't paid much so make sure you tip. Good quality food for a fair price, attentive staff too that are always happy to help. I typically visit once every few months but all around one of my favourite places in Galway. Good food, great friendly staff, good atmosphere, good quality, beautiful menus & drink offerings and just such a relaxing spot. Delighted that this place is so easy to access too on the outskirts of the city. Lots of parking too. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for somewhere on the East side of Galway!

Arrived for dinner at 4.30. Got told the kitchen was closed until 5 (this is not stated on their website). At 5, got told the kitchen needed ten more minutes. We were then told they could not guarantee we would have our food by 5.45 (the time we had to leave by). We eventually just had to leave. I've never seen a bar / restaurant with such ridiculous kitchen rules.

I haven't stayed here. Yesterday we had a drink before and after the Connacht v Munster rugby match and it was busy but a great atmosphere and lots of people eating really nice looking food. Great location for the ground. Lots of parking too.

If you’re looking for a tranquil hotel, this place is ideal. It is so peaceful and the location is ideal. Just a stone throw away from the centre. The rooms are very clean and service keeps it well maintained. In regard to the restaurant, they do a gorgeous burger, and the chicken supreme is top notch. The toblerone cheesecake is to die for, best I have ever tasted !

Beautiful premises. Comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent 👌 Try the chicken wings, absolutely delicious 😋 The staff and service could not be faulted. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Huntsman for food and drinks. Location and accommodation are top class. A very pleasant experience overall.

Absolutely the best hotel and restaurant we found in Ireland. We were tired and hungry from our long train ride, we got the last room available, it was very clean and the view was beautiful. Made it down for dinner and drinks, I highly recommend this place Absolutely awesome.

Location was actually good only ten minute walk to Galway centre but unfortunately the bar beneath the hotel is a late bar and the music played till 3am not ideal if you have and early start... Other than that we enjoyed our stay.

Location is decent, service is okay. I ate there on a Saturday and it was as busy as a Sunday to possibly understaffed. I sat down for food and had to ask for water (this should be a standard drop to the table) food didn't take long to come to the table and the portions are big! Ordered 2 Heineken Shandy's and they took quite a while to come to the table.

Beautiful food kinda pricey but worth it if you're going for a coffee and scone they're absolutely lovely. The steaks are amazing and the drink are good value too

Love this hotel, having such an amazing time. Such a peaceful atmosphere, the rooms are spotless and the beds are so comfy. The food is lovely too, just wish there was a more extensive menu. Will definitely stay here again!

Very close to the city, free parking outside, brilliant value, paid 100€ for night, beautiful little hotel with charming character. Rooms very beautifully decorated, very chic and modern, beds were very comfortable, all was very clean, shower was unreal. The restaurant and bar were absolutely beautiful, food was very tasty, very good service! An amazing little place, highly recommended. Very pleasant stay, definitely will be back.

Restaurant was excellent! They fit us in even without reservations. Fish and chips, curry and goats cheese salad were all delicious. Great selection of beer and wine. Would recommend if you want to stay out of the craziness of central Galway

I went here for breakfast and wasn't overly impressed. The service was good, place looks great and portion size was good. I had the mushrooms with poached eggs on brioche. It sounded right up my alley but it didn't really work. One egg was hard, which doesn't help. I think it was that the brioche needed to be more toasted as it got quite soggy. It filled me up anyway but wouldn't get if again.

Stopped for dinner , always busy but got seated almost straight away. Beautiful dinner and desert and quite reasonable price. Relaxing and no one putting pressure on you to finish up.

The Huntsman is a very nice hotel and launching point for exploring Galway and the surrounding area. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. The hotel is situated above a lively pub and restaurant which are great for starting the day with breakfast and ending it with a pint. Dont worry, any noise from the pub never made it up to the room. The front desk is staffed during business hours, and the hotel restaurant manager can help you with anything after hours. It's about a 15-minute walk from the hotel to Eyre Square, or you can easily grab a taxi/Uber. Rooms were appropriately priced and furnished. I strongly recommend you consider it when visiting this lovely city. One point of criticism: They will not hold your luggage (didn't even want to try). Fortunately, there is a luggage storage location next to TK Max just north of Eyre Square, so you can drop your bags there (€5 per day per bag) if you arrive early or want to leave late. We found that out on our own, without recommendation from the hotel.

Room was fab, the decor was really lovely. The bed was the most comfortable thing I've slept in for a long time! Location slightly out of the town which was nice. 10-15 min walk into the centre if you want to venture out and about.

We spent two days in Galway City and enjoyed diner twice in the Huntsman Inn. There was a queue due to the corona rules and the fact that the restaurant decided not to work with reservations. It did not really bother us as each time a place in the bar was offered where we had a drink before our diner. The plates were really tasty and the steak burger my wife had was the best she sampled during our two weeks in Ireland. She still cannot stop talking about the best sticky toffee pudding ever she tasted here. Not to talk about the delicious strawberry daiquiry (finger licking tasty, indeed). The waiter responsible for its preparation was so kind to share his secrets, for which we are still grateful. All in all, a truly nice place to dine, I'd say.

Try the dark and zingy cocktail...absolutely delicious. Comfortable seating, great atmosphere and there was a fantastic singer providing entertainment. Lovely place to have a fewndeinks in Galway.

Great service, the breakfast was delicious. Just a few minutes by bus into town. Simply 5 stars.

Had lunch here. Few years since I’ve been. Food used to be excellent. Not sure what’s happened? One of the worst meals I’ve had in a while. Had the Hake with roast veg. Hake was so over cooked it was like cotton wool and completely flavorless. Roast veg were greasy and no flavor. Seems like it was all cooked by someone who doesn’t care.

Great pub with the nicest staff who know how to look after customers. Perfect location before or after a trip to the Sportsground but a little out of town. Also serve a great breakfast.

Had family meal here this afternoon and was really disappointed. The service was abysmal...we waited almost an hour for our main course and two of our party's order of beef cheek with Yorkshire pudding arrived without said pudding! We had to ask for the dessert menu even though our table hadn't been cleared of main course dishes etc as we were so long sitting! Credit where it's due, the dessert was generously portioned and tasty but we still left with a bad taste in our mouth. We live locally and have eaten at The Huntsman on other occasions but will definitely not be returning and will advise friends and family to do the same

Nice place to eat and not too expensive. The homemade brown bread was delicious. Very busy but very understaffed. I felt sorry for our lovely waitress kasha as she seemed to be on her own.

Not for vegetarians. There is one vegetarian option on the menu! Costs €14.50 and was a sweet potato dish, very tasty, but so little food that it would fit in a soup bowl. Was so hungry afterwards, had to order a side of fries. Meanwhile the carnivores were very well looked after, as usual in Ireland. Vegetarian options should be appealing to everyone, for the sake of the planet. This was very disappointing. Took 45 minutes to get the food. Service was lovely.

Perfect for a night or two in Galway, great value for money, good location, very friendly staff, late check in was no problem. spacious restaurant and breakfast area is lovely. Great coffee, reliable WiFi. Lift, comfy bed, clean bathroom and good hot shower. Found just enough space for yoga in the room. TV and DVD/CD player.

I've always liked this pub/restaurant. It has a great atmosphere. The dinner was delicious but a little expensive like everywhere in Ireland. If you want a good night out - you can't go wrong here.

We visited a few times, unfortunately we can never get a seating, so havnt been able to try the food out. Very disappointing, we end up going somewhere else. Meet & greet staff don't appear too friendly or apologitic when they cannot oblige us, & never offer an alternate time to return.

We went for a lunch on bank holiday Monday. We were all very impressed. The food was amazing probably the best going in Galway at the moment. There was something for everyone. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the flavours were amazing. I was most impressed with the service. We were accommodated very well. With very friendly service. Especially from a waitress with glasses (sorry don’t know her name), she treated us very well and was very playful with our toddler. All in all amazing food and service and will definitely come back.

Food is excellent in this upscale pub. Stayed for a weekend in the G hotel so sorry I didn't come here on the Friday evening we arrived and had poor quality over priced bar food in the hotel . Had dinner here on the Sunday before leaving Galway. Service and food was 5* we had the monk fish and prawn curry and supreme of roast chicken for mains and chowder and GOAT cheese salad to start . Nice size portions and full of flavour

Had a delicious lunch of salmon and risotto. Seafood chowder was tasty and full of prawns and fresh fish, however it could have been a touch hotter in temperature for my tastes Food was great and staff were friendly and helpful. Great heated outdoor dining area and plenty of free parking.

The staff were unbelievably kind and helpful and the Manager went above and beyond to ensure we had dinner in the restaurant even though we arrived late from travelling. The room was much bigger than we thought with a great shower and the location was easy to find with lots of parking. The food was incredible and would go back again purely for the toblerone cheesecake! Thanks so much to all the team, would 100% recommend to anyone

Had a booking here for a large party and on arrival was told the best they could do was multiple tables of 4. Manager was very standoffish to the point where I felt he was picking a fight. Was left frantically searching for a restaurant to replace our booking last minute. The stress caused was enough for me to never return again. Found a replacement last minute thank god, nothing lost in the end, horrible experience

The Huntsman is a cosy place in a convenient location with great parking, so it is very popular indeed with the locals. There are TVs everywhere if you want to catch a game, and the staff handle the hustle and bustle of a crowded bar and restaurant with commendable composure. The food is your typical, good old honest pub fayre. Nothing too fancy or elaborate.

I wasn't staying but was at the restaurant for dinner on a Tuesday night. No complaints about the taste of the food but the only thing is that it takes ages to get the food on table. It took more 1.5 hours when we got the starters and the waiting for the main course took another era altogether. That too just for 2 people. Totally Disappointed !!!

Had dinner here and can only say that both fish and meat dishes are very good. Would mind at all to visit again. Note that booking upfront is recommended.

We stayed there for three nights and it worked out well. The hotel room was very large and had an amazing bathroom. It was very clean and had a beautiful view. Our room was right above the outside bar area so it was pretty loud until midnight but earplugs did the trick. The WiFi barely worked up in the room which could be a nice improvement. Overall, a good place to stay within walking distance to the city center. We also ate there a few times and the food and drinks were always good.

One more cosy place to stay in, with a very nice front patio. Great menu.

Been coming here since the early 90's and it's been through quite a few changes since. This has resulted in a classy high end smart/casual establishment. The atmosphere is lively, the layout is great and the place is spotless. The staff are very helpful, friendly and professional. The food is always top notch as this place can get quite busy for good reason. Great drinks and cocktails menu too. Highly recommended.

  • 5/5 Julie K. 8 months ago on Google
The menu is always the same It need a bit more virity . Like beef and more chicken recipes. Staff are excellent. Lovely place. To eat just a change in the menu would be good

Do NOT stay here or dine here. The hotel smells like a barn and the restaurant service is extremely slow! There was a couple that got seated 5 minutes after us and they had their order taken, got their food, and paid before we even got our food. I am still waiting for our food an hour later after I ordered. Absolutely unacceptable. About to walk out.
