Utter disgrace of an experience in A&E. I was admitted as a CAT 2 after a motorcycle accident with broken bones and I was left in agony on a trolly for 16 hours. The first doctor wanted to discharge me after just a few hours and said my collar bone is broken but can heal by itself and my ankle was a hairline fracture. Dr. Akmed I think his name wasโ€ฆonly after I told him that he would have a lawsuit on his hands and I physically couldnโ€™t move - did he switch on and try to help me. He cleaned my wounds and offered to get me a physio assessment in the morning. The morning shift doctor Nayeem was even worse. He basically told me I was a liar for saying I was unable to put weight on my leg โ€œbecause itโ€™s not brokenโ€ and insisted I stand up and try to walk unaided. I was in severe pain from my injuries and couldnโ€™t even get to the toilet by myself. The entire attitude of this absolutely shambolic third world level A&E is to get rid of you as quickly as possible and send you home with some painkillers. Which reminds me, they discharged me with no prescription or guidance on how to manage my broken collar bone. Iโ€™ll be contacting a solicitor. Absolute latrine of a place.

I was on Emergency Department on the 6th of March, wait there with my mom 11hours. My mom has recuring corneal inflamation and needed to be sent ASAP to eye clinic. We were seen by Dr. Vijay Narayanan who completely did not respect what I have to say and start treating my moms eye as conjuctivitis, when I told him it happens before and she had that information in her file!!!! # years ago she had same sypmtopms and was treated as conjuctivitis instead od corneal inflamation for 2 months which caused her a lot of trouble in the eye. Still after explaining all of that he did not wanted to transfer her to eye clinic and said she only needs antybiotic for conjuctivis, which was of course a bad diagnosis. After 2 days her eye was much worst we decide to go privetly and there she was treated propaly and ensured it was a corneal inflamation... What a suprise... Just be carefull on that doctor as he careless.

A very busy public hospital, waiting times can be long in outpatients but staff are excellent and medical care is top class. I was also here as an inpatient and cannot say enough positively about the staff and care I received here

Been to a&e a couple times recently. I endured a 16 hr wait on a trolley in severe pain being prescribed morphine that didn't touch it by a doctor I didn't meet and told to walk home while I was still out of my bin and in severe pain. Misdiagnosed and didn't listen to the issues I'd been having leading up to the deterioration in my condition. Back again for further deterioration and despite presenting with emergency symptoms I was told to leave. Luckily a specialist stopped me and told me to fast and admitted me within the hour. Like I know its busy but I might be permanently screwed if I had listened to the first doctor. No menu choice for any sort of dietary requirements. Poor job lads. Poor job.

Brought my elderly mother in for a CT scan at 9am she was left sitting in a wheelchair until 420pm when she eventually got the scan. Was told she would be kept overnight to go home and collect her next day. 2 hour journey home, she was then discharged at 10.30pm with no way home, extremely rude nurse told her to get a taxi at her own expense (ยฃ200 journey by taxi)then proceeded to put her in the corridor to wait for her lift despite being told that home is a 2 hour trip!!!!! Disgraceful behaviour from so called caring profession. Avoid Galway hospital at all costs.

Have to chase down results that the hospital were supposed to send onto GP. Results from tests over a month ago. Results I was told on the day, would be forwarded onto GP within a week. Ask GP, GP tells you to call hospital, only to be greeted by a condescending delusionally self important person, who tells you that you shouldn't call for your own results (after being instructed to do so by GP). Always the same in this country. Chasing down results and being pushed from pillar to post for tests from weeks/months ago and dealing with apathetic hospital admin assistants. Forward results to GP's, it's very simple!

Honestly reception staff in a & e are not professional. I heard cursing and making fun of people's questions..reception is meant to be the point of contact and the first impression for hospital. We are all tired 9pm until 2am and yes you can be busy but being professional is a bare minimum. The hospital staff were lovely and professional just reception is a let down.

Rubbish. My partner attended his appointment today, waited for 3 hours to see the consultant, only to be told that the consultant was on annual leave. This was the second appointment because when we attended the first one 9 months ago, stayed the night in galway because of 9 am appointment, having travelled from co roscommon, we were told that the wrong appointment had been made and we should go home. Why the inefficiency and incompetence?

Unfortunately during one of our yearly visits away, to Galway we had an unforeseen accident and had to spend some time in here which wasnโ€™t ideal. However the actual experience we had was really good. The staff on duty that day were very caring helpful and polite and really made us feel special. We were treated. The hospital itself was great and they saw us within half an hour of us walking through A and E.

A&E is a joke, people in real pain have to sit there for several hours 7+. Been there several times myself, with a 3 year old with deep bleeding cut, with partner in severe pain and it was same story every time. People who are not in real emergency life threatening situation are admitted to only block slots for the real emergency cases who are in pain. Such a people should be assessed at the door and sent to GP instead. Additionaly you will be told there is no beds available, where teenagers with upset tami after drinking too much alkohol are given bed quickly and for several nights. It's just a hangover "deal with it or don't drink". They should learn from other European countries on how A&E department should operate.

Really disappointing, such a prestigious hospital have no training for their staff on racist, employing health workers from Africa without training your staff on fairness and respect no matter the color of your skin, a very racist hospital, they treat blacks differently in a very disrespectful way, black patients are giving less attention no matter how serious your condition is, really disappointing and sad that in this 21st century Irish health workers are racist, hope they change for the better,

I have been to this hospital many times in the last 20 years in the emergency department. I must say that I have had bad experiences plenty of times with the staff there ( probably not their fault as they are under stress ). Everything changed today when I was there being seen with Dr Declan in A&E " beside the purple chairs ". He made me at ease , explained me everything and was so friendly and a very good Doctor . It made all the difference to my day , it was so reassuring being explained everything . Many other time , I wouldn't have been explained anything about what was happening but Dr Declan went above and beyond, you can see he really cares about his patients, I also seen how amazing he was with the students working there. Don't normally leave reviews but felt I needed to do it this time because I have never been treated as kindly as I did today in this hospital. Dr Declan , if you are reading this , thank you so much for your care today , it meant so much and I heard other patients saying the same thing as I am. Keep up the good work , you are a top Doctor

My partner is now there as a patient having had open heart surgery. He has not had good pain control post-operatively. He also, being in the ICU, was getting โ€œone-on-one nursing careโ€ but was not washed up till 2:30 pm and was unable to call for his nurse (he needed to have a BM and was in distress) because his call bell was not placed within his reach.

This hospital is a disgrace It has the equipment to facilitate potentially high standards but instead the staff is arrogant, judgemental and neglecting They have operated on my loved one under full anastasia just to leave a big ugly visible scars and did not remove the foreign body The surgeon travelled from another country just to discharge her few hours after the operation Medical negligence is not enough to describe this unnecessary butchery and discharge from the hospital while at risk of heart attack, collapse lung, stroke or paralized from nerve or spine damage We had to travell to Dublin to seek help while hoping the foreign object won't travel and cause damage She has been neglected due to judgemental doctors that are not even from Ireland I will make sure this story will be heard and not forgotten There are people that care and love her May God bless any one that has been mistreated, ignored and forgotten while seeking help in public hospitals

I canโ€™t compliment the team at UHG enough. The care attention and quality of the nursing team was amazing. The doctors and consultants were brilliant. Thanks to all the team at acute medical ward. What was a scary uncertain time was made manageable and easier for us. Key words here are communication, care, attentive and understanding. We were kept informed throughout all the procedures. Thank you again. Glad to be home again and well on the road to recovery. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘

I am from the USA and I broke my ankle in Clifton. I was taken to UHG by two wonderful paramedics. The hospital nurses, doctors, staff were warm, kind and just made me feel better. The paramedics stayed with me for hours until I got a room. I was so impressed with the level of kindness and the surgery went very well. I was able to travel home with paperwork and cd of surgery they gave me to pass onto my doctor. The stay in the room was made bearable by the attentiveness and sensitivity of the nurses, doctors and by my roommates. I am glad my first experience in a hospital was in this hospital and not in the states. The doctors, nurses, paramedics, staff, other patients got me through my hospital stay. I love Ireland.

Second visit in 2 years, first with mother then with daughter. I struggle to find a positive in the staff. The national staff are not empathic and they spend a lot if their time chatting to each other and having the craic, but the mood changes if a member of the public asks a question. the non national staff are kinder and more respectful with a caring manner. respectful.

Worst experience Iโ€™ve ever had in my life. Was left 8 hours to wait in a hallway without no one checking one you, nurses passing you by looking at you pretending youโ€™re not there. Finally went to ask how long would it take just to be told a doctor would come in 30 minutes and just then they would start to see people. Left still in pain but mentally drained and honestly would rather be in pain for a whole month than to experience this again.

I spent 10 nights in UCHG in March of this year. From the A&E (or emergencies ) my experience was so positive. From Dr Spooner and her team at A&E, to Prof Gubray and all his team, to all at infectious diseases and the wonderful nurses I cannot thank you enough. A special thanks to all the lovely doctors at Infectious Diseases for your care while in hospital but also your aftercare as an outpatient. I will be forever grateful.

My mother was was seen at General surgery outpatients in November 2021. Consultant and doctors didn't have ultra scan scan results due to cyber attack so they couldn't do anything. Eventually the consultants secretary eventually got a paper copy of scan results by post only, from the primary care centre outside the hospital where the scan was performed. The next appointment by telephone was in December 2021 where there was a diagnosis made and told there is a 7 month waiting list for procedure. The next appointment in January/Feb 2022 at General surgery outpatients and was told there was no date for procedure and wasn't told anything at the appointment just a routine examination and sent home. UHG General surgery dept blamed covid and cyber attack for the delay in treatment and diagnosis. My mother decided to go private to get treatment and was very happy with the service and hospital there! They were always efficient, transparent and explained everything to her during the consultation and procedure/post operative.

Was left waiting from 4:45am until 9am when I asked a staff member how much longer he thought it would take and he without even so much as glancing at me said I don't know and kept walking. Only when I said "Is this really how you treat your patients?" Did he seem to actually care and look me in the eye only to say he would ask and never return. This absolute disregard of people who are on pain and the rude behavior from staff is exactly why people hate coming to UHG. I understand and appreciate that you're very busy and I had absolutely no problem waiting 4 hours but when I simply try to ask for an estimate on how much longer I'd be waiting, I get treated like the dirt under someone's shoe. Highly unprofessional staff. I wish to never have to come here again because the quality of this hospital is so poor I never want the misfortune of being stuck here again.

Great care by all staff I met. I was well cared for..... from nurses, care assistants, Dr's, consultants and their teams, catering, cleaning staff, house keeping.. Thank you. Every staff member that met me in UHG has Empathy.....the ability to sense other people's emotions, coupled with the ability to imagine what someone else might be thinking or feeling.

The best piece of advice anyone ever gave me about the public healthcare system in Ireland: if you get sick, leave the country if you can! UCHG is a total mess with some good staff but many, many unprofessional, under-performing staff. How A&E is still open is a miracle in itself. Limited resouces, now covid, and the solar equinox, lol, are all blamed for the shambles. There is absolutely nobody in that hospital who takes personal responsibility for anything. Heads should roll.

Don't risk having have accident or get sick. Partner has badly hurt his hand and was sent here. His elderly parents drove him down as we live in donegal. I can't as I'm already taking care of my sister who was left in a wheel chair already thanks to the hse screw up, and our 2 young kids. He has epilepsy also. He hasn't eaten right in 2 days because its an operation. Happened Friday. He still siting their mind you he got sent home last night. These where 2 appointments where he had to be down at 7.30 an (from donegal) and nowhere to stay during this Bank Holiday. Sent home last night. Back to donegal. Back up at 4 this morning. His father called just to be told by the nurse that he had a bed last night but left to his own choice. That was a lie and she said this to cover her own back. I understand that the are suffering but at this point I'm.done. Don't ever get sick in Ireland. This furstion isn't worth it.

GUH is way to small for the city and its public. A&E is a nightmare for anyone unlucky enough to have to attend, where you could spend hrs waiting for treatment and a bed. Outpatients clinics are the same, overbooked. I dread when I have to go there.

ED is very slow but they are very much under strain. I was 1st seen by Marcus who couldn't do enough to help for a neuro condition I have, I was admitted, was kept on a trolley in the corridor for the night until I got a private room (not ideal but not the nurses and doctors fault they are up to their eyes). Nurse James and Karina was really lovely and helpful on ED. My consultant Dr Waters was also very kind and helpful. Went up to St Anne's ward, every nurse and doctor there were great. The 'dinner ladies' are brilliant and not forgetting One of the porters who took me for an MRI was so friendly and done a grand job of cheering me up. Made my 6day stay better. (I cannot remember his name I'm sorry) but thank you. All round, I've had a good experience here ๐Ÿ˜Š Thank you

It was a total waste of time cos they told me exactly same thing back last June..I was only in less than 5mins after waiting over 2 hours .. ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ™ˆ

For as far back as I can remember the HSE has been in crisis. This hospital always rates low during review process. Somehow this doesn't impact patient outcomes. Really? My experience with my elderly mother was woeful. Medical staff simply wanted my mother out of there without any examination and limited (zero) dialog with family. After refusing to discharge my 83 year old mother and constant battles with medical staff here and a further delay of 5 weeks we were informed that my mother had vascular dementia and 30%+ of brain function was compromised.

Was in for gallstones, waited over a day for xray, had it about 5am, went back to main a and e area, then I went downhill very quickly due to pancreatitis. They treated me very quickly and I only had a few hours sleep in the bedding area when the Chinese doctor who deals with gallstones and stomach problems told me to go home because the computer said I was OK and to leave ASAP. I could hardly talk or walk and I said I'm not fit to move and he was very rude saying I need to go. But for my sister fighting my corner I dread to think how I would've coped going home. I had pancreatitis for gods sake. I haven't forgotten about that doctor I assure you.
