This is located near Norton bridge opposite the Police station. A recovered Tyre of one landing gears of the plane which crashed into the Virgin Hills on 1974-12-04 can be seen here. This is situated 122 km away from Colombo. One and only Zeroth mile post ( බිoදුවේ කනුව ) can be seen in 1-2 kilometers away. A recovered steel jug from the crash site can also be seen in the set of images. This is belong to one of residents there.

Martinair Flight 138 is an aircraft belonging to a Dutch Martinair airline that traveled from Surabaya, Indonesia via Colombo, Sri Lanka to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This aircraft has been operated for Indonesia's Garuda Airlines. On December 4, 1974, a McDonnell Douglas DC-8-55 CF crashed into the Sapta Kanya mountain range near Maskeliya, Norton, shortly before landing at Colombo's Katunayake Airport. 182 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims and 9 crew members who left for Mecca have traveled here. All 191 people on the plane died in this accident. This small memorial plaque was erected in the park near the Norton Bridge in Norton, a few kilometers away from the crash site. It was erected almost 30 years after the crash and bears the names of the Martinair crew. In addition, a tire found at the accident site has also been displayed to the public. Although the tire is on public display, it has been identified as the property of Norton Bridge Police. Sri Lankan singer Anton Jones sang about the incident in his song "DC8". A second memorial, placed by family members from Asia and Europe, was erected not far from the road on the slope below the crash site. Don't forget to visit here when you are at Norton Bridge. Martin Air Flight 138 crashed on December 4, 1974 in the Sapta Kanya mountain range in Sri Lanka and was destroyed. It was a flight coming from Surabaya, Indonesia to Colombo. It is a replacement for Garuda Indonesia Airlines. It was a McDonnell Douglas DC-8-55CF.[2] The crash killed all 191 passengers on board, including 182 Indonesian passengers and 9 crew members who were on their way to Mecca to celebrate Hajj.[3] Martin Air 138 crash Martinair Douglas DC-8-32 Volpati-1.jpg A Martin Air DC-8 similar to the plane that crashed accident Date December 4, 1974 The flight departed from Surabaya Airport at 12.03 UTC for Jeddah and was scheduled to stop at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport on the way. At around 16.30 UTC the Katunayake control room cleared the aircraft. At about 16.38 UTC, another air traffic controller reported the aircraft clearing at 5000 feet and clearing at 8000 feet. This is a small junction with some history. You can see a remaining tyre of Martin Air aircraft which crashed at Saptha Kanya mountain range in 1974. Close to the Norton bridge dam there is statue of Wimalasurendra who is one of pioneering hydro power engineer in Sri lanka. There is an army barrack guarding the dam. Also a police station is right in front of the bridge. There are food stores, gas station forone to buy their essentials. You can hire vans and three wheels from here.
