I have done free walking tours in the past and they have been amazing. My family actually walked out on this one. While the tour guide was nice, she was from Italy, giving a tour in English about the city of Munich. Both her English and German were okay, but not great. She was quiet and that made it extremely hard to hear. We would have been better off doing a self guided tour using an app. She touched on only the basics of sites, which anyone could have figured out. Having no history or connection with the city she was speaking about made the tour feel uninspired and boring. Very disappointed.

I pre-booked myself and my partner onto a Sandemans free walking tour of Munich as I have had such a great experience with them in Berlin, Hamburg and Amsterdam. Unfortunately, we left our tour today after only 30 minutes as the group of people must have been nearing 60! I was under the impression each tour has a rough maximum of 30 people. Our guide never checked us in, and she also allowed many other people to join the group despite them not having booked. This would have been totally fine, but seeing as our group was so large anyway, it made it even harder to follow, see and hear our guide. The short amount of our tour we did stay for was mostly occupied by watching the Glockenspiel - something that would’ve been better to simply make us aware of and tell us to watch after the tour as it felt like we wasted a lot of time that could’ve been filled with knowledge and facts of the city. We have other bookings for the free Sandemans tours in the next few days and our experience today makes me extremely apprehensive.

September 2022: I was a very loyal customer of this company, took tours in different countries in Europe and I consider myself a very good tipper because the quality of the tours were also good. I reserved 4 adults/ 1 children for September’s 2022 tour; but a week before the tour Laura Choca from NewEuropeTours wrote an email explaining that the guide was sick and they have to cancel the tour, she did also mentioned that in 3-5 days I would get the reimbursement. It didn’t happen. I wrote back, called to the central. NO ANSWER at all. It’s been almost a month already and I think this company is struggling and is not a good idea to reserve anything with them ever. ------ UPDATE (October 13th, 2022): After posting this review, I finally got a reply from the Owner and Director himself, Christopher Sandeman, apologizing and promising to refund the money asap. Its been a month and it didnt happen. I am not a fool; now, I am proceeding with some legal advise... ------ UPDATE 2 (December 23rd, 2022): After warning the company that I would take further actions with a “ein gerichtlicher Mahnbescheid in Frage”, I finally received the payment.

We did the Munich walking tour at 10:45 which was mostly about Bavarian history (1200's through the 1900's roughly). Very informative and a great way to learn about German culture. Keith from Scotland was our guide, and he did a great job. I would highly recommend this tour. Take this tour first thing, as Keith shows you local places to eat, drink, and be merry. Good job Keith!

They time the tour right. For the Tower Clock show, for the church service, etc Give a washroom break which is necessary in winters. And end the tour at the beer house

Overall the free tour is pleasant. The highlighted route, location and building is good. However the Italian tour guide talk very soft and just spoken at surface knowing, may be due to just move to munich from Italy.

Super surprised at the quality of this tour, considering it was free! Tour guide was great and it was a fantastic way to spend a few hours in the middle of Munich!

Our guide in Munich was too soft and really hard to hear. Individual facts presented at different places with no sense of narrative or storytelling. Very uninspiring and boring. Wouldn’t recommend it!

Excellent guide with good knowledge of the history and sites in Munich. Her overview offered good suggestions for planning the remainder of my stay in Munich. I would definitely recommend taking this tour.

Very informative, interesting and fun. 2 hours was a good length of time and we saw many of the best sights to see in old town Munich. Our tour guide Emanuella was fantastic. She knew so much about Munich history and made it a brilliant experience for us. Thank you so much!

We totally recommend doing the free walking tour with them. We had the best guide : Jax! We learned interesting, but also funny facts about Munich from him. He was very attentive to the needs of the group. We found the free walking tour so enjoyable, that we also did the 3 hour 3rd Reich history walking tour with the same guide, which we also found very good! All in all, we totally recommend doing these tours while in Munich, and if you can choose, go with Jax, you will spend very nice time with him, and also learn and see the beautiful highlights of the city. ♥️

We did the Munich free walking tour, but I have to say I'm a bit disappointed by the guide. It was done in cooperation with Todo Tours and the guide didn't speak proper English which made the tour a bit difficult. He wasn't very engaging or interesting .... unlike all other Sandeman tours this one was a fail.

We had a GREAT tour with Emanuela! My fiancé booked this so that I could get a feel for the best spots in Munich. She told us about St. Peter's church, the Juliet statue (yes, of Romeo and Juliet fame!), the old palaces, and more. For a donation-based tour, I had an amazing time and would recommend Emanuela to anyone wanting to see the city.

My parents took the English tour and were very disappointed. The guide was not so fluent in English. Storytelling was ok. Overall they said the tour was boring.

10/10 recommend taking the free tour with Sandeman’s New Munich!! We had Leander and he was a total goof and made everyone laugh and enjoy their time on the tour. The tour of Salzburg was also amazing and a great way to see all the cool parts of the city in one day. Our guide was very knowledgable but lacked the personability of some of the other guides. Overall an amazing highly recommended trip!

Scott the Aussie was our tour guide. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect, especially for the price but I really enjoyed this experience. I learned so much history of Munich that I had no idea of and I got to see so many major historic sights. Highly recommend this tour as an introduction to Munich but be prepared as this IS a walking tour, you will walk A LOT and this time of year it’s very cold so dress appropriately for the weather.

I have used Sandemans on a few occasions (Berlin, Lisbon) and have always found their tours interesting. I have always recommended them to friends who are visiting European cities. However, on this occasion, the tour guide did not show up for the Free walking tour in Munich on June 30th 2022, 10:45am. I was at the correct meeting point. I had also booked the Third Tour for Saturday 2nd July, 2022 and the guide showed up for this one but it is a paid tour so they probably did not want to have to refund people. Perhaps they cannot be bothered with the free tour whenever it suits them which is unfortunate. I received no emails to remind me to go to the tour, nor did I receive an email to tell me it was cancelled.

A very entertaining and informative tour by our guide, who obviously knew her stuff. All questions were answered and the occasional joke added to improve the whole experience. You can't beat the price (free) and I felt it well worth the 10€ I gave in appreciation for the two hour tour. I have been on tours in Hamburg and Lisbon. This was certainly up to the standards I have come to expect from Sandermans New Europe tours. Highly recommended.

Very disappointed with our 2 tours. Two tours booked and both complete wastes of time! Like many other reviewers, we’ve used Sandeman’s while visiting other cities. We’ve always enjoyed them and found them to be a very good way to see and learn about a new city. This one however was not inline with our other experiences. We booked a free tour in the AM and the Third Reich (paid) tour in the PM. Both tour guides were lovely people but just not great in providing a good experience. The first guide was so strict on time that he rushed us through St. Peter’s church. Later, he gave us 14 minutes, (his exact words), to have a short break and use the loos if necessary. Sadly, the woman’s loo was busy and we arrived back 2 minutes late and the tour left without us. It’s really too bad that he hadn’t considered starting the second half of the tour in the meeting place so that those who arrived back in time were not left waiting and those who couldn’t get back in time could join but not hold up the tour. He lost two customers and his tip by being too clinical in his approach. Luckily we were able to join a tour provided by a different company and had an excellent experience! The second guide Third Reich), a very quiet woman was too hard to hear. She made mention several times that certain parts of the city were loud, but did nothing to attempt to speak louder or choose quieter spots to conduct the tour. The information she presented were facts that I could have read on the plaques and was not told of in an interesting or engaging way. She showed us a lot of photos from a book she had but we could really see them clearly as many photos were rather small. We decided to abandon the tour about 30 minutes in and just chalked it up to standards slipping at Sandeman’s. We will not be dinging up with this your group again.

Excellent tour, gave a good insight into the city. Guide Emmanuelle was funny and insightful. Would definitely recommend.

Tour was really good - good length, great stories and details about Munich. However, we took a break right outside a Starbucks. Guide said we could pop in there for our coffee. There are so many small businesses in Munich that could use the business rather than a tax-dodging multinational.

Always recommend to do the free tours and SANDEMAN is always a good warranty

Zero stars! I ordered a tour (paid for it), came to the meeting place and then was notified by the guide that it was cancelled as not enough people registered. I was given the email of regional manager, I wrote him, and the customer service. Now, one month after, no reply! No refund! No voucher! Honestly, don't want to deal with this company EVER. Beyond terrible experience. More so, I wanted the cancel the second tour and notified in the period prior the tour as they required, but for the also no answer. TOTAL IGNORE by the company. As the one who did many walking tours, I'm shocked they this company still exist with such terrible customer service. Place of ordered tours : Barcelona, Spain

I knew when Leander showed up in Lederhosen that we were going to have a great tour. His reenactments of historical events with volunteers from the group were both entertaining and educational. I've visited Munich before and still learned things and had fun. Highly recommend!

It was super fun! Our tourguide (Chris from Australia) mixed in a lot of jokes with the information, which made the tour really entertaining.

It was ok, but unfortunately the guide’s English was really not up to scratch. I hate to write this, as he seemed like a nice guy, but it really is so important that the person giving the tour is completely fluent and comfortable expressing themselves in the language they are giving the tour in. I thought this was the most basic rule of giving tours!

😐 Unfortunately, the shop is no longer open. I cycled up today and the shop is empty and for rent. I'm very sorry because it was a great shop !! Would be nice if it were noted here and on the website that the store is no longer there.

👍👍 Have been visiting for 4 months and really really liked it. The beginner's coach was good. Also was translating to English sometimes :) The place itself is super nice, quiet and relaxing. Recommended.
