Nice and historical basilica of Gdansk. made by local bricks and the construction ended up 500 years. The most beautiful part is climbing staircases with 409 steps to reach this beautiful landscape view of the city. You must get a ticket before the reach the top. I paid 5 zloty for ticket on May 2021. I suggest you to see this place.

Must visit place. From the imposing architecture, to the very well explained history of each corner, to the amazing view you get of all gdansk after climbing 402 stairs. Its silent, not crowded and the entrance is free. However, there is a small fee to pay to go up the tower. For going up the tower, some stairs are tight, some are washed away because of the use, and there are some place were its very spacious. Going up is easy for both adults or kids, and there are some place to catch your breath

Impressive church with lots of beautiful artifacts inside, one of them is enormous clock with very complex calendar that works. You can see the clock in action exactly at noon. Church has a view tower with alwsome city view. Very impressive architecture.

The climb up the tower is 409 steps but well worth the effort. Great views over Gdańsk and not bad for 16zl. But the space at the top is very very small, only about 12 to 15 people can fit up there, so some waiting may be required. Please check opening times as they seem to vary, when we were here it was 10:00

I was so impressed with the sheer size of this building popping up right from the heart of old town (some say it is the largest brick construction in the world while others rank it second) that I kept shooting it from every angle during my time in Gdansk. The interior is also notable with many outstanding features such as the organ and the clock. A must-see.

Very lovely cathedral. If you climb up the tower, it is hard work that definitely makes your thighs burn with the 409 steps but worth the burn for the views of the city. The clock located in the church comes alive once a day at 12.00 noon with lovely music and a theatrical performance. It does get crowded to view the clock, so go earlier to get a good spot

The biggest church made out of bricks in Europe! Don't miss the chance to visit it. It's at the center of Gdansk. Challenge yourself and go all the way up to its tower (the entrance fee-regular ticket to the tower is 10PLN). After 400 steps you'll see an amazing panoramic view of Gdansk! The interior of the church is also so beautiful.

Way too many tourists taking pictures and talking. It’s supposed to be a place of worship. Didn’t feel holy at all. Still historic and beautiful though.

Grand place to visit which is beautiful in the inside, there is some construction going on around the building. You can pay to have a view over Gdansk which was 10 zloty ( roughly two pounds) and this helps towards the restoration of the building which you can see being done on the outside. This will require climbing of quite a lot of stairs and the view whilst nice can get crowded, so try to beat the rush.

Peaceful Chapel. And at the top of it, we get a mysterious view of the whole city! Worth climbing hundreds of steps to the top. Sunsets are the most beautiful to be watched from there, I think.

This incredible brickwork has an extraordinary mega impression. After the visit there is an incomprehensible peaceful atmosphere inside. The basilica does not contain so many baroque and other elements as Western Europe's cathedrals, but it does not matter. I recommend to visit the tower, but it is physically fit! Do not underestimate it. The view of the city of Gdansk is wonderful!

(Translated by Google) I recommend this place to everyone because of the interesting architecture and viewpoint on the tower. In the basilica, you can light a candle for free (leave a victim). Visiting the basilica and entering the tower for a fee. Awesome experience. Inside you can feel the historical spirit. After going up the 409 stairs tower, you'll get very interesting views of Gdańsk. We wnętrzu czuć historycznego ducha. Po przejściu na wieżę 409 schodów dojdziemy do bardzo ciekawych widoków na Gdańsk.

(Translated by Google) The largest brick, gothic temple in Europe. Five thousand square meters, it can accommodate twenty thousand people, an object that is impressive with its vastness. Its construction lasted 159 years. Inside, there are extremely rich furnishings, including a stone Pieta, a copy of the painting The Last Judgment or the main altar. The most recent history is the tomb of the tragically deceased president of the city. Inside, a large scope of renovation works carried out, but these difficulties will pass and their effect will remain. Being in the city you have to come here. There is time for reflection and expression of respect for those who made the history of Gdańsk.

Beautiful gothic church - biggest in Poland, and one of the biggest brick churches in Europe. It was heavily damaged during the WWII, but is nicely restaured and some parts show original wall paintings. It makes one come still, when walking over 500+ old grave stones. Also a must - 409 steps climb to the tower, with amazing view over Gdańsk and the sea.

More than 400 stairs in order to reach the peak of this basilica, definitely worth the climb as you can see the whole city from up top. It cost 12 PLN.

The organ is impressive and climbing up the tower is absolutely worth it. It is some work to go up the 400 steps to the top and you probably shouldn't do it, if you are claustrophobic or afraid of heights. However, seeing the inside construction of the church tower and the roof top with the beautiful view is a great experience and totally worth the 12 zloty.

Saint Mary's Basilica is must see for everyone visiting Gdańsk. It is deeply meaningful place for the history of the city and it doesn't matter whether one believes or not. It's history and architecture impresses me since the very first time I was here (in March 1999). Interiors of the Basilica are perfect place to host copy of Hans Memling's masterpiece the Doomsday (the triptych) - the original painting is in the National Museum of Gdańsk (when I've visited the Basilica for the 1st time, the triptych was presented here and it has strengthen my overall impression of the place).

I've never seen that many Christ images, sculptures, and signs at once 😅 inside there was a bit windy & colder than outside in January, but still attractive because of interior moulding, chandeliers, lots of statues, fancy wooden things...

This is one of the best churches I’ve been too. It’s very scenic. They have a wild selection of free displays to view. Also additionally you can pay to go the viewing tower. It’s a very long walk up, but you can see nearly all the city from the top. I’d definitely recommend going on a weekday to avoid having large crowds, but it definitely is worth the walk and it’s a great work out I believe around 500 steps. The displays show a lot of the rich history here!!

Worth getting there to see the astronomical clock chime, we arrived at 11:55 and it started just before 12. Can be very busy with school children but it is a massive church so enough room. very pretty and worth a visit

Truly astonishing to walk through the vast hall of this beautiful church. The interior is mostly whitewashed brick, but the sheer size will leave you breathless. It's one of the largest brick churches in the world and you really feel it when your there. Take a walk up the 405 steps to the top of the bell tower to get a great view of the city.

Unpopular opinion alert! Personally, I don't think the 400+ steps up the tower are worth it. If you still decide to climb it, bring cash. Visa or card payments are not accepted. And don't expect an unobstructed 360° view. Basically, up there, you'll be on a smallish square platform between the roofs. While you can see in every direction, depending on high tall/short you are, there will be quite a lot of roof in your line of sight. To really see down to the colorful house facades, you have to stretch up a lot. Bring an extension/selfie stick for your camera if you're, say, under 1,60 m.

Was amazed by the architecture of this Basilica, hence decided to explore a little inside. The high ceiling is very impressive, Makes one wonder how was this achieved in that era. Another surprise was that, for 10 euros you can climb the tower’s view point for some breathtaking view of the city. And if you manage to go during sunset, it adds more essence to an already amazing view. However, the climb up the tower involves 400 odd steps and around 200 of them are turn steps, where you are just climbing a steep and narrow steps round and round. So if you are someone who are not comfortable with lot of circular steps please avoid it. Because once you start climbing this there is no turning back. But the view is so much worth it. A must visit for sure

Worth visiting for sure!! There is a tower with a narrow stair, which consists of 408? 412 I forgot. To be honest, it was seriously tough to go to the top, but when I looked around the view of Gdansk, it was worth the effort (my energy loss)

This humungous Gothic church was started in the 14th century and, with a volume of up to 190,000 cubic metres, is counted among the three largest brick-built churches in the world. Standing in the 66-metre-long nave you’ll need to take a moment just to wrap your head around the dimensions of this epic building that can hold 25,000 worshippers. A major reconstruction was needed after the Second World War, but all of its valuable fittings were saved. You can peruse treasures like an astronomical clock from the 1460s, the high altar raised in the 1510s and a marvellous Gothic stone pietà carved at the start of the 15th century. If you’re up for climbing nearly 400 steps you can battle your way to the top of the monolithic 77.6-metre main tower.

A few interesting things to see inside but nothing breathtaking. Seems well looked after but the tower entry was not very well regulated. As a result the small platform became overcrowded (especially considering social distancing). This certainly took away from the experience and was also dangerous on the small, old stairs. Would not recomend the tower to people with severe asthma, claustrophobics, people with joint issues or those scared of heights. If you're passing by it's worth a visit.

A.D 1502. At the beginning of March 1343, the cornerstone was laid for the Basilica in Gdansk. The construction took almost 159 years! Fantastic and beautiful gothic architecture. One of the largest red-brick churches in the world. Unbelievable cubature of 5.473,773ft³. The main bell weighs 154,52 cwtUK! Tower height has 252,62 ft. Primarily, the church's tower was supposed to be higher. Unfortunately, a 13-years war (1454-1466 C.E) lasted between The Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem. The medieval council of Gdansk had to spend money on military purposes. For this reason, the tower's construction never was completed. The Basilica’s tower was to be a spire, like many other towers in medieval Europa. Over centuries many eminent city notables, famous figures, city mayors, artists and priests were buried inside the Basilica. In March 1945 (end of WWII) the Basilica was seriously damaged. Next, according to the original, wonderfully rebuilt. Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary houses the copy of the image the ‘Last Judgment’, the triptych attributed to famous Flemish painter Hans Memling. The triptych ‘Last Judgment’ it’s the great work! By the staircase, you may reach a viewpoint located on the roof of the tower and enjoy the fabulous panoramic of Gdansk. I admired that red brick pearl of architecture in September 2015. I highly recommend a visit.

For an additional fee, I recommend going to the tower. However, there are a lot of stairs, so it's worth measuring your intentions. (Original) Warto odwiedzić Bazylikę jako turysta nawet jeśli jest się niewierzącym. To wspaniała wartość architektoniczna i kulturalna.

Impressive gothic catholic church in the heart of Gdańsk! One of the biggest brick churches in the world. It has deep history from XIV century. The building was severely damaged in WWII and reconstructed in the second half of XX century. It's interesting that there are graves of rich and famous Gdańsk citizens under the curch's floor. St. Mary's Church looks really majestic. It's really huge and tall. There are paintings, icons and other historically valuable items inside. So, the St. Mary's church is one of the must visit places in Gdańsk!

Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Gdańsk constructed in brick version during XIV-XVI centuries. Pomeranian Duke Swietopelk II founded wooden Church of the Assumption in 1243. St. Mary's Church considered to be among three largest brick churches in the world. One can have 360 degree view of the whole city from its very center of the old town after climbing 400 steps to its top observation point. The shrine of assassinated in 2019 Gdańsk mayor Paweł Adamowicz contains his ashes.

Beautiful church. If you can make it, walk up the tower. It’s about 400 steps but the view is amazing. Be sure to take a look at the organs in the back of the church.

Majestic church with special and beautiful details. Don’t miss the tower, despite the narrow spiral staircase. The view is spectacular, absolutely worth that 3,5 Eur entry fee. Good physical condition is required!

Pretty ok church to visit. Simple and not too much too see if you compare to other churches. The big treat is the tower. 14 zloty to walk up is ok prize, 400 steps with an impressive view over Gdansk awaits you. Its worth the money. There are more impressive and more beautiful churches and basilicas but its worth a visit.

The outside of this basilica is easily forgettable but the inside was bette than most. Lots of good art inside and it really has a lot going on inside. It is nice that there is no entrance fee. It is also quite big compared to other basilicas and churches and stuff and worth spending some time to take a look

Very beautiful cathedral, one of the biggest I've seen! Inside you will find an interesting astronomical clock, a beautiful altar and lots of smaller shrines with historical altars and figures. Would highly recommend visiting if you're in Gdańsk.

Very big spacious church with superb interiors, it's ceilings are huge and marvelous. They have a old gregorian calendar engraved in wall with description about how it was used in old days. It also has other artifacts which describes significance of few other important places for Jesus. Must visit church when in Gdansk.

Free enter, tower enter price is 15 zł. It is a very huge and beautiful church and it is possible to see it from all over the city. It has a very special astronomical clock and you must see this. I would recommend it to everyone.

In the very heart of the old town of Gdańsk stands the magnificent St. Mary's Church, titled the largest brick church in Europe. It is worth walking around the church itself and climbing its tower. After climbing more than 400 steps for a few euros, you will have the opportunity to admire the impressive panorama that opens up the views of Sopot, which is right next to Gdansk. By the way, the inside of the church is no less interesting - for some tourists, the narrow stairs and dark corridors give shivers.

Very impressive building. From the inside it seemed more like "what exhibitions do you want to show? - yes!" Everything somehow lovelessly thrown together. The large astronomical clock was very nice to look at. The walls doesn't gave a good charm, pure white without much love.

We had a recent visit to the basilica and it was a great experience. The church itself is very beautiful and big. We also decided to climb up the tower to the top of the church to be able to see the panoramic views of the city. Over 400 steps later, but it was definitely worth it for the views. If you are visiting Gdansk I would certainly recommend this as something to do, also don’t forget to check out the large wooden clock inside.

This church has one of the tallest towers in Poland and is an impressive building. Other than the alter the interior is pretty plain compared with churches in say Spain. What is interesting to see is the old astrological clock which activates on the hour with a display of the 12 apostles and the four authors of the new testament. Adam and Eve are located at the top. The church is free to visit.

What a view from the top of the tower. Amazing. It was just 3 odd pounds to walk up to the tower. There are about 350 steps to get up to the view, but it's not too bad. Stop and take a breather whenever. It's worth it. Also, you are stepping up the inside of the tower, and it's wonderfully interesting to see the domes from inside the church roof. Very cool indeed. The church itself is something to behold. Spectacular! Don't miss this! Make time!

A must-visit site in Gdańsk, the towering basilica is easily visible from a distance and definitely worth exploring. Admission is free, while access to the 82-meter tower costs 16 PLN for a full-priced ticket or 8 PLN for a reduced fare. Be prepared to climb 409 steps, but the stunning city views will make it worthwhile. The astronomical clocks are only active at 11:57, so be sure to secure a good viewing spot in advance. You'll find them situated in the middle-left section of the basilica.

Amazing place to look around absolutely massive with some precious stuff in there. We spent some time on the ground wondering round there and decided to take the stairs up the viewing point. Be warned its a lot of stairs which we didn't realise until halfway. First part of stairs very cramped with no handrail. Steps are tiny so have sensible footwear. You then get to the middle where the bells are, this section does have handrails so generally feels safer. The views on the top are incredible from what we could see in the snow! Its worth doing while you're there however only recommend for fit and healthy people.

Very impressive cathedral. Be mindful the sky terrace is 400+ steps! But definitely worth it, if not too busy and you can handle tight spaces.

Pretty majestic inside, very tall columns. But mostly people come here for the view, it is excellent for them. I only advise you to come early so as not to get into a large influx of people, it spoils everything. The climb itself is easy and fast, the view is definitely worth it.

Surprisingly larger than I thought, from inside you have the option to go to the top of a tower, it was a very spontaneous and fun little experience.

Reconstructed basilica which had been built originally in 15th century. Despite being spectacular outside façade, interior has simple and even sloppy architectural styles.
