A very nice monument to a person of great service to the city, standing in a square near the center. Świętopełk II the Great was a prince of Gdańsk Pomerania from the 13th century. During his times, the economic development of Gdańsk Pomerania took place, and the capital Gdańsk received city rights. It's worth seeing

Świętopełk, a huge sculpture cast in bronze, is 2.8 meters high. The ruler of Pomerania is shown in a cape, with a shield and a sword, with his hand over his forehead, looking into the distance, and holding in his hand an act granting city rights to Gdańsk. Świętopełk was the most outstanding ruler of the Sobiesławice dynasty. He was able to achieve and defend the independence of his principality and contribute to its development. He was also the first of the Polish district rulers who had to fight heavy battles with the Teutonic Order. The remains of the Kashubian prince were buried in the Oliwa Cathedral.

An architectural element located between Szeroka, Grobla II, Świętojańska and Złotników streets. A monument depicting Świętopełk II the Great, Prince of Gdańsk. Made with incredible craftsmanship and sculptural precision by the Gdańsk sculptor Wawrzyniec Samp.

In a beautiful park there is a bronze monument to Prince Świętopełk II. The sculpture is about three meters high and depicts a prince with a sword and shield, holding in his hand an act granting city rights to the city.

The monument is small, not 4 meters, but 2.8. The author of the bronze statue is Vavzhinets Samp. On the pedestal is an inscription in the Kashubian language, the saying of Swentopelk the Great "Zrzeszonëch naju nicht nie złómie", which means "Together we are many, we cannot be overcome."

The monument was built in 2010 (by W. Sampas). Who was that prince? Duke Świętopełk ruled Gdańsk from 1227 to 1266, who acquired city rights during his reign. It is also interesting that nowadays the popular St. Dominykas fair was started to be organized on the initiative of this ruler.

Great monument. A big attraction for kids, especially boys. There is an information board next to the monument so you can read about the history and figure of Świętopełk.
