It's unique in a way. The BBQ coal is special and that makes the flavours completely differed to what you'd expect from a ordinary BBQ place. Each dish is unique and tastes fabulous. The staff are well trained, asking them for suggestions for me the best they offer according to what I felt like in the day.

This is real Japanese restaurant in Geelong. Most of Japanese restaurants mostly turned out not real as owned by non-Japanese, moreover there are no Japanese food. But this restaurant is real. The style of food could be fusion but more likely to stick around Japanese cuisine and also the style of the interior design. Interior doesn't have to be fancy but need to be well enough represent the food. This could be sometimes hard but if owner cares their menu, they do care all aspects which I felt it.

Really good asian BBQ with a twist, there's nothing else quite like it in Geelong. To top it off staff are super friendly!

Food is delicious and the place has a great vibe. Unfortunately the speed of the meals massively lets the place down. Our first visit was great but quite slow. We visited again tonight however we won’t return in the future. After 1.5 hours all I’d received was the 2 entrees I was sharing with my partner (corn and a cauliflower dish). When I asked to cancel the baos and fries we were still waiting on and get the bill I was told another 5 mins it would be ready… 10 minutes later I had to ask again for the bill and was told the food was almost ready… really disappointing. If you are not in a rush it’s a good place to eat. But if you are hungry it’s not. We got takeaway elsewhere on our way home…

The BEST Japanese we have had for a long time. Delicious food and creative tasty Japanese themed cocktails. Spot on service ( thumbs up to Huấn) and well priced….. not to be missed!

We loved our little group lunch around the bar recently. We decided on the Feed Me menu and the host was extremely accommodating with some of the changes we were keen for. The feed me option is excellent value. We really enjoyed the scallop with vermicelli and the whole baked fish. The host was very enjoyable company! Cannot wait to go back :)

If you haven't been here before...what are you waiting for !?! DEEELICIOUS!! The lobster 🦞 roll is 💯🔥. Also wonderful service! However, as a short person...not a fan of the high chairs but the food and service definitely made up for that!! I can't wait to go back and try the whole fish! It looked amazing!!

The best night out in such a long time. EVERYTHING was perfect and our expectations were far surpassed. I truly hope the two beautiful women that served us and the remarkable chefs read this because they deserve all the praise in the world. Thank you so much ♥️

Everything we ordered is so tasty will definitely go back again. There is so scale on the snapper which is not very present, hopefully it will be clean throughout. The toilet is not disabled friendly.

The food was amazing and would recommend it to my friends and family. Sadly, they only have one chef and the wait time for the food took us more than 30 minutes per dish. Owner should increase the staff in the kitchen!!

A small venue with a limited menu but well worth a visit. Japanese charcoal adds great flavour. Never disappoints. The seafood is delicious, and they have the best sweet potatoe fry's

Excellent service, Evie made recommendations which we ordered and the food was so yummy. The atmosphere was relaxing. The restaurant is only small but well worth the visit. We will certainly be going back. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

The food was amazing. The seafood was cooked really well and will definitely come back for such quality food. 1 star less for the (presumably) trainee on the night we dine in. He seemed like he didn't wanna be there and not so attentive like the rest of the staff.

How great is this place?! Truly amazing. It’s like being in a proper Japanese bar without having forked our for the airfares. Food cooked over hibachi tastes infinitely better. Great selection of Japanese whiskey, sakè and beers. Intimate, impeccable service and delicious snacks Thanks for being here in Geelong. We need you Only thing would be to dim the lighting. Everywhere in Geelong the lighting is too bright

I really really enjoyed our meal at Sumi. Small restaurant but I really liked that it was cosy in that way. Service was excellent, staff were regally friendly and accommodating. Food was impeccable. It was not only presented beautifully but it was absolutely delicious. Probably the best bao buns i’ve had - definitely a must try if you're eating here. Can’t wait to come back actually.

Loved it, all of the dishes we ordered were very nice. The snapper was superb although fiddly. Nice modern space and friendly service at the bar. It’s a bit tight and wouldn’t recommend going with more than 3-4 people (much better for just 2) but that does add to the atmosphere partially. The other critique was that the time between entree - main etc. was longer than we would have liked. Overall a very good dining experience. I would definitely come back but likely only as a date option with 2 people.
