Super cool! At first when it starts driving, you have a weird feeling. You can feel it in your tummy that you’re in the air somehow 😝 but you get used to it very quickly tho. Only negative experience is the ticket buying. If you’re not familiar with the city and don’t speak German, it’s a real struggle. In my opinion, they have to review their system and make it easier for tourists to buy their tickets

So unusual public transport which can be used for sightseeing. We went full route one way and back and I enjoyed it a lot. For ones who want to do sightseeing on this transport, better to set at the end of the last wagon.

It's always a great experience to travel through the city on the suspension railway. The new vehicles are clean and modernly equipped. What surprises me is that the doors just close without an acoustic warning - bad for the visually impaired.

Great piece of engineering and still great to ride. One way takes half an hour and is about 13km long. Good way to see Wuppertal.

The experience is great, but in fact the Schwebebahn is a public mean of transportation, nothing touristic about it. There are people in it coming from work or other usual activities and you can feel a little uncomfortable at times, especially when it's crowded. The train is neat and clean like it is new. There are great views from the windows, since the "upside down" train follows a river and Wuppertal is a beautiful city. The ticket costs 2.90€ per journey, no matter how long it is.

One of the oldest suspension train network in Germany which is entirely upgraded during the pace of time, very creative steel made hanging railway structure with saving the space on ground, over the natural waterway running around the city, amazing train stations near every prominent area of the city to facilitate the peoples and students also there who are availing great education institutions in Wuppertal.

one of the coolest points of interest I've ever seen and the best idea for public transportation ever. so what's the problem then? Keep in mind that after all that this is the Wuppertaler citizens only and efficient method of getting around the city, and there are large families with newborns in pushchairs, (think of the huge north-african and middle-eastern population and you know), that all need to get on the cars. The cars have limited space even if the frequency is every three minutes, the cars are packed to the brim all the time. The photo's taken are of an ordinary weekday! And yes.. it eventually gets emptier when the dark hours kick in, but do remember that from October till March the sun sets at six o'clock or sooner, and you won't see a thing because the tram floats over the unlit parts of the Wupper river if you try to look out of the window at that time, the only thing you will see is your own face in the reflection of the glass. It is actually much more pleasing to sit and stroll around the river and look at the passing Schwebebahn cars.

If you drive then it is the ideal means of transport in Wuppertal. At the same time you can see a lot of the city here. Unfortunately, she often doesn't drive because there are constant technical problems. Therefore you cannot rely on it. It's sad that something so unique is not properly maintained due to lack of money. I would give 5 stars for the suspension railway and the idea. But because of the technical problems, 2 stars deducted

You just have to take part. I can recommend that all drivers take the suspension railway from here in Barmen. There are enough free parking spaces available here. Get in and be there 😁😎

Fun ride on the electric suspended railway with hanging cars in Wuppertal Schwebebahn (oldest in the world). It is still the local public transport in Wuppertal Schwebebahn (13.3km) and a unique system in Germany. The city looks very cool from the hight of 12 meters above the river Wupper, and 8 metters above the valey road. The rail also crosses A46 motorway. Great experience. I recommend it if you want to do something different.

Great experience, especially if you travel during the day. Most of the route goes over a small canal of sorts and is really picturesque.

It's a very special, very special driving experience, be sure to sit by the window, the view down and in the curves is impressive. This is a completely different “city by the water”. In places the trains travel quite quickly, and in places they are surprisingly high above the Wupper. Driving fun for everyone. For technology fans, the turning technology at the end stations and the switch technology with the sliding rails are particularly interesting.

It is the most interesting side of Wuppertal. Hanging train here is the only one in Europe with 13 km long along the city. It was opened in 1901. Unusual thing in the city. The view is very beautiful. Sit at the end of the train for better view.

A unique highlight for tourists. Can be used with the Deutschland Ticket, among other things, as it is part of public transport. The stops and trains we took were clean and well maintained. The view of the backyards and the river is great. The train was well occupied. And drove every 4 minutes on Saturday afternoon👍🏻

The Wuppertaler Schwebebahn is a suspension railway in Wuppertal, Germany. Its original name was Einschienige Hängebahn System Eugen Langen. It is the oldest electric elevated railway with hanging cars in the world and is a unique system in Germany, with 20 stations and operating since 1901. Hop in one of the stations, ride across the city and over the river enjoying the views. Stop by Hauptbahnhof or Ohligsmühle stations and explore the surroundings and many attractions. Visit the Schewebebahn website for details and planing your visit.

Interesting construction and somehow clever to use the space above a river. You have to drive...although 2.10 for 2 stations isn't exactly a bargain

Great experience! The transportation you cannot find in any other city in Germany besides Wuppertal. Worth it to try and have a look at the city from inside the Schwebebahn.

We did it just for the experience. At the back there is a glass side with an amazing view. If you get on at the beginning /end of the line, you can ride the whole line while sitting at the glass side

Riding on the suspension railway is a great experience. It mostly goes along the Wupper through the city. The price for a 24-hour ticket is affordable, you can get on and off as often as you like and explore the city. The train runs every 5 minutes. An audio guide and suggestions for exploration are available on the homepage. Unfortunately the historic train is not running at the moment

Best public transport in the world. Safe, fast, scenic and reliable. Grab the 4 seater at the panoramic window at the back of the carriage.

Well suited for a scenic day trip. Joy interesting for young and old. Rarely have I had so much fun with public transport. Can be easily used with regular tickets. What makes sense here (I think) is a day ticket for flexible travel back and forth in Wuppertal and, if necessary, travel by train to one of the two final stations (or one in between). But of course it also works with a shorter ticket. The Germany or semester ticket should also be exchanged (and if you have a subscription anyway it makes even more sense). We drove completely around once. We also took this opportunity to make a stop in the Luisenviertel (well-preserved, beautiful old houses) or the botanical garden (beautiful view from the free-to-enter tower and nice green spaces). Background: The railway is interesting historically and from an engineering perspective. The railway was built at the beginning of the last century, among other things because the bedrock was very hard and a subway would therefore be too complex and expensive. In addition, Wuppertal is a long city on the Wupper and increasing traffic volumes and space were already an issue over 100 years ago. The idea of “simply” building the railway across the river was of course an extremely clever design that solved several problems at the same time. The city became very prosperous and grew early on, among other things, thanks to the textile industry, so of course a good solution was needed for the increasing traffic. The former prosperity can still be seen today when you look at the classicist buildings in the streets that have been preserved (Luisenviertel) or take the train past many villas, town houses or factory buildings. The view through a large window at the back is particularly good. I've never found Wuppertal itself to be a particularly beautiful city, but the ride on the suspension railway taught me otherwise. Wuppertal has its own charm. Especially when you delve into history. The train is a really practical solution today. It runs approximately every 5-10 minutes and takes passengers to their destination in one of the two directions along the Wupper without any traffic jams, on time and with a nice view. At the terminus you have to get off once, but you can get back on at the other side after the train makes a quick turn. Worth seeing. If only public transport were always this cool. If you're here it's definitely worth a visit.

When you’re a tourist in Wuppertal this of course is a must-do ride. And it actually is quite nice, you will see a lot and you can hop-on hop-off every station you want. Technically it is an impressive built but probably more as a landmark than from a useability view, and it makes a lot of noise (imagine the people living 2 meters next to this).

That's really unique concept : Suspended Train. The ride is quite smooth and enjoyable. I was wonder to know that it has history of 120 yrs. It started serving people on 1901. Still it's being operated on the same principal today also. If you want to know more interesting facts about it you can see video filmed on Wuppertal Schwebebahn on my Youtube Channel : Go2touring.

Loved the ride, up and down the entire route and back again! Got off in-between to stroll along the Wupper River. Easy and affordable with the 9€ ticket.

The Schwebebahn is as cool as you would expect an upside down railway which runs largely over a river to be. Trains are frequent and punctual, very reasonably priced. Ticket machines, for non-German literate tourists, are difficult but not impossible. The kombi ticket that includes the zoo is especially good value as you get to skip the queues at the zoo!

Clean, on time, convenient schedule (comes quite often), and gets you close to places to see in the Wuppertal area. I was also pleasantly surprised at how smooth the ride was, as I tend to get motion sickness. If you have the €49 monthly Deutschland Ticket, it is included.

Pretty much the only successful monorail still in use today. Built in 1902 and fully restored after the war, it’s an engineer’s dream come true. Currently in the middle of another renovation, it’s only running on the weekends
