By far the best culinary experience I have had in Italy. The place was beautiful, right next to a window with a great view on the top floor. The staff could not be better, they were friendly and even though there was some limitations on the language it was still a great experience. The prices were not high for the quantity and quality. No doubt that I would come back here. If you are a tourist or local you must come and visit this place. I still cannot believe a paid 30eur for all these dishes.

Some of the most attentive and friendly waiting staff. The staff know the menu by heart in English and Italian, translating italian words fluently into english. There are only 8 tables and only 3 set menus to choose from, with the possibility of creating your own menu. Our waitress noticed the table was uneven, even before we noticed and immediately brought something to even it out. Whilst waiting for our table, a better table became available. We were asked if we could wait 3 minutes whilst they prepared the new table. When we were seated, we were asked what we wanted to drink, the drinks came and then our waitress explained the menu to us in detail. Her colleague then came over, asked which menu we had chosen and gave us recommendations as to which wines suited the menu we had chosen. I had heard the portions were small, so we opted for a 7 course meal. We had to skip 2 portions as it became too much food to eat. The food itself was very flavourful, each course was displayed beautifully and very flavourful. Not "traditionally" italian but they werent scared to experiment and add twists to discover new flavours which is very progressive and paid off because each course was very tasty and very unique. The price for a culinary experience like this was very very justifiable, so much so that I would have gladly paid more for the service and food we received.

Excellent service and cuisine. You will have learned and savored the local foods, in their best presentations, here. A must experience if you're in Genoa.

Review for the temporary all'aperto (outdoor) bistrot Anciôa: We waited a while for someone to take our order. No one came, I waved to a waiter, he pointed us out to another waiter. No one came. After waiting more I waved again, then all three waiters were standing together, looking at us, discussing. Instead of coming to our table one waiter started cleaning another table.... Then we finally got up and left, no one tried to stop us or apologised. Absolutely absurd...

Good food, great service, nice view. Fun to do a bit of food shopping after dinner. Very upscale market. Fine dinning restaurant. More so than Eataly or the restaurant on the ground floor. My second visit and I'd come back for a third.

Try new things, but .. This restaurant shef is a kind of famous as new Italian. I had the shef's choice on lunch. amuse-bouche was nice well prepared. However, spaghetti sauce was not acceptable for me. It was like a shrimp with mayonnaise. Grilled fish was like very sweet triyaki souce. Those are new for many of Italian people and could enjoy something new. However, I would like to have a material taste and souces will bring out the material itself taste more vividly. Mayonnaise and too sweet triyaki souces were just killed it own tases. In addition, those dishes are salty. Maybe because shef was not there. He was invaited Parma food festival which I was there to have many Italian shef's dishes. I would suggest to go back to basic. Try to think how to bring out nature's own taste, may be it is cooking temperature and/or quantity of salt. Those details, may be.

Good food, amazing view. Nice staff but not very tentative. Had to ask for olive oil for 3 times and when I finally got it after 15 minutes it was empty

Fine dining, exquisite but pretentious. This is a nice, modern, airy room at the far end of the 2nd floor of the Eataly building in the old port (take the lift to the second floor and keep going, don’t lose heart!). When we were there the waitresses all spoke incredibly quietly, which was a pain for my 86 year old mother. I think it’s all part of their slightly Scandawegian vibe. Everything is very precise, you are given old wine boxes to put your handbags in for instance. There are many amuse bouche, most of which were lovely. But all served on a series of unlikely articles worthy of Dalston. The food was all lovely, really excellent, but it was not a place you would go to laugh or relax with friends. It’s all about style, restraint and precision. I would go back but it would not be a favourite if I lived in the city. The price was reasonable for the quality of the food.

Our entrees were pesto-filled tortelli and codfish bottoni with turmeric and wow! such delicately made, melt-in-the-mouth pasta, I can say, hand-on-heart, this was the most delicious pasta I have ever tasted. It was a work of art. By the time the shared main of mixed fried seafood came, my mouth was still singing from everything else and I really didn’t need any more to eat.

We have decided to go with a degustation menu for 8 dishes, all by chef choice and a degustation on 3 wines chosen by the staff to fit well we the food. We were really impressed with all the courses, amazingly tasty and with a nice presentation. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.

What a hidden gem in Genoa ! We had a superb lunch at Il Marin, which is nicely decorated and has a lovely view over the harbour. Both the food and the service were beyond our expectations ! Very creative food, top service, excellent wine list, all real value for money. The restaurant largely surpasses the level of many Michelin star restaurants we have visited and it should only be a matter of time before it gets at least one star.
