Finally get to visit Penang Botanic Garden. Decent place to visiting with your loved one as the place is not crowded with people. Like the cleanliness and wide variety of flower and leaves plants. Just a suggestion, that would be great if the fern house is open for closer look at the little plant. Unfortunately, the natural fish pond is dried out. However, garden is diversify with weird fruit and fungus that we found fascinating. Might need to be careful with the monkeys tho as they seem to be aggressive if you go near their feeding ground. Anyway, it was a good idea to have such place. Definitely worth the time and things is no entry fees is needed. If not because of the far distance, I would like to go there once or twice in a week to rewind from busy city.

Free entry which you can have a walk inside. A really good spot for jogging as it is really big. However, if you don't want to exercise, you can also walk around and see the flora. There are also many good spot such as the lily pond and Japanese garden which are really beautiful and can take a good picture there.

One of the beautiful botanical gardens in Malaysia, this place is worth a visit if you're into tropical plants and nature. I came here on a Saturday morning for birdwatching, and there are a lot of people, mostly joggers & hikers. There's quite a few birds to see as well. Overall, it is a very nicely maintained park, great for tourists and it's only a 10-minute drive from Gurney. It is best to visit on a weekday and early, like 7am. Quite a few monkeys around, and there are toilets available. It's also free to enter.

Nov 2021 We enjoyed our walk. The toilet need little more improvement, keep clean, need to provide toilet paper and blow to dry hand. Wish there are more sign on the names of the plants. Unfortunately, this trip, most of the section very closed as it has not been maintained. Sad sad case. Wish there are more seat to seat to enjoy the view and rest.

Many locals visit Penang Botanical Gardens to exercise and take wedding pictures. The entrance is free. There are several paths to choose from and even a hiking trail. There's lily ponds, flower gardens and a japanese garden (outside the main entrance). If you don't feel like walking, they do have a tram service. The Orchid house is open from Tuesday to Thursday. The staff on-site was really friendly and patient. He was showing us the hybrid and wild orchids and explaining how to take care of certain orchids. DO NOT bring food as there are wild monkeys around.

Super relaxing and cooling location to walk and chill. Families and friends are surrounded by nature, people are playing badminton or doing yoga and tai chi. Trees 🌳 and plants 🌸 and flowers were cared for. Seemed like there was a range of different plant species. Overall, loved the vibe, community feeling and preserved nature. Couldn’t explore the full extend of this botanic garden but I would definitely go back again.

By far the best kept botanical gardens I experienced among many states. Enjoy the lush green, plenty of big tropical trees and the fresh air in the morning WCs are reasonably clean. Certain time of the holiday mornings can be ‘crowed’. The only challenge is finding a parking spot nearby. Wheelchair accessible.

𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 The atmosphere is extremely fantastic!! I really want to live nearby to walk around Penang Botanic Garden everyday. This is an ideal place for family and friends walking together on weekends. There are lots of plants, flowers, monkeys and other species, too. Be careful with monkeys because sometimes they want your food 🤘🏻

Super cool park that is vast and quite well maintained. Don't go on midday as it will be humid and hot. Go like early morning or evening so it's enjoyable. If you're in luck, you can spot monkeys near the entrance. There's a waterfall inside the park if you are walking far enough, so go there if you enjoy your long walk.

Wow! Botanical garden park is fantastic! The entrance is free and it's a great place to take a relaxing walk with friends or family. The scenery is beautiful and it's well-kept and clean. There are also plenty of benches and a few scattered trees that provide a little shade. All in all, I really enjoyed and will definitely recommend it to others.

Good for morning walk covering most trails, about 3km. Lots of trees and benches. Lesser monkeys than it used to have many years ago. Some areas are not well kept/maintained maybe due to covid? Lack of signages of the trail and distance, but you can count on fellow walkers.

A good spot for morning exercise. There are a few trails off the main road which you can follow to enjoy lush greenery along the trials. Parking could be a problem if you go there after 8am but you can park at a car park 1km away and slowly walk towards the garden. The path towards the garden from the car park is covered by trees most of the way.

We absolutely love coming for walks here to enjoy nature. There are always wildlife to see like monkeys, birds and monitor lizards. It feels like we are in a national geographic documentary without having to travel too far or walk deep in the jungle. The gardens is well maintained and have beautiful heritage trees. It is a much needed green lung in Penang for the public to enjoy. It is safe and there is plenty of parking and amenities. This place is suitable for all ages.

What a really nice place to spend a couple of hours. There is no entry charge however a small charge would assist the upkeep of some of the exhibits like the orchid garden. There is plenty of wildlife together with great scenery and waterfalls.

  • 4/5 Sam S. 4 years ago on Google
Beautifully curated and preserved tropical gardens with a wide expanse to traverse and explore. Highly popular with the locals so it gets really busy on the weekends and during peak periods. Plenty of little dedicated flora enclosures, but most are only open at random sporadic periods. Also some of the nicer ones are becoming a little dilapidated, like the lily pond and a few of the larger enclosures. Great place to bring friends and family for a stroll! Plenty of parking and something for everyone.

Here are some reasons for which I love this specific botanical garden: - free entry - well mantained, lovely flowers bushes and paths, ponds and fountains, different types of gardens (not all of them in perfect shape... but a lot of effort put in to look good), pavilions and bridges, even waterfalls - wild monkey watching (also monitor lizards and snakes if you are lucky as we were) - great place for jogging and tracking - bus 10 goes here every hour or so from the jetty (2 RM bus ticket per person - one way) - you can rent electrical cars to explore the place if you don't like to walk...

Unfortunately, this is no longer a botanical garden in any way. It's more like a nice park. All of the gardens and specific plant exhibits are closed and in disrepair. Appear to be permanently "under renovation". Entrance, is free, which is nice. I would recommend charging a small entrance fee and using the funds to renovate the botanical garden to bring it back to its historic state.

This place is all about green. Good place for jogging and brisk walking. The flowers area is so beautiful and you can even propose to your partner. Be careful of ministers around here, they’re quite a thief. I also found rare minister, they’re in black and white color as my attached photo.

Lushious and beautiful greenery scattered across the whole trail gives a calming and soothing environment while jogging. Botanical sites filled with flowers and cacti are randomly built. Surprisingly crowded at 6:00 am! A lovely and healthy place to relax.

This is a place that you should visit at least once when you come into Penang Island. It is a nice place to be during the pandemic as you can just be out there enjoying nature away from the busy community. With a beautiful scenery of the trees and hills, it is the perfect place to relax and have a jog. There is no entrance fee needed and you will see couples having their wedding photoshoot here sometimes which is a lovely sight. There is a small waterfall area where people can hang out too but I am seeing some people (mostly Malays) going into the water and some even let their children bath in it which is not a good sight to see. However, please be mindful in keeping your food (bananas especially) out of sight because there are a lot of monkeys here and we have been jumped by one before when carrying a bunch of bananas. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Parking space is limited too so you may be forced to park by the road side during a very busy day.

A must visit for nature lovers and everyone who enjoys getting away from the city for a while. There are plenty of benches to sit and rest in the shade all over the big area. It's possible to walk on smaller paths into the forest, to small rivers and the lilly pond with turtles and lizards. There's even a path to hike up to Penang Hill. You can see a lot of lizards minding their own business. They're very calm and don't get aggressive. WARNING: There are quite a few monkeys that can hunt you down when eating so better be careful when having a snack or doing a picnic. Even though the park visit is free at the time of writing this, it would certainly be worth coming here even if they charged an entry fee. Since it's a big area it can't really get all that crowded.

Beautiful gardens. We came here by bus, we got the 'hospital adventist' bus stop and then walked. Had a lovely time in the gardens, there are a lot of monkeys, very well kept gardens, really good paths all around. We spent a good few hours wandering around, there are different gardens - a fernery, a gravel garden. The toilets at the top were closed. The orchid cage was closed for renovation, it's always nice to see renovation work being done, we will definitely come again.

Passed around 2/3 hours. Saw a lot of monkeys, turtles and lizards. The gardens were amazing and people very friendly. So many different species of plants. The food in the car park was very tasty aswell. We opted to not take the mini van up to Penang Hill as it was 160 ringgit. Would definitely recommend the gardens tho!

One of the best park in the city. Calm and relaxing atmosphere. Cute monkeys and lizards. Entrance is free, great for jogging. Disadvantages: there is a waterfall nearby, but the way to it is closed, the road through the jungle is terribly difficult, maybe not worth it

Great park with beautiful hikes of varying difficulty levels, full of diverse plants and animals, and on top of it all, completely free of charge. There are a bunch of tropical spice, fruit, etc. gardens on the island, most of which cost RM20+ to enter, without having close to this diversity on a very limited space. The botanical garden is really the only place you need to see, absolutely well deserved!

Very average compared to lot of other similar view points at other places. Feels very artificial most times. Gives a good view during sunset and may be at sunrise too.. might have been better if had been cloudy.. otherwise its very humid. Support staffs are nice and helpful. Taking a train to the hill is just another gimmick. They call it a decade only train but in reality its a modern train running on old tracks. The waiting time got over 2 hours and they cancelled the fast lane tickets. Its better to take a jeep from the botanic gardens which comes around 160RM for a family of 4. There is nothing much to do in Penang, and that makes the only reason to visit this place.

It's a beautiful garden which you can visit either during the day or night. The garden is dark with yellow lights turned on at night. But it's very bright outside the garden so we still can sit around the bench on the grass to get some nice air at night. It's easy to get parking too.

Really enjoyed walking the entire Botanic Gardens. Along the path, you can get to see many different types of plants. All of the plants are labelled so that you can learn more about them. Place is cooling when I went and some of the stops make for great photo opportunities. Could definitely improve if they revitalise some of the plant nurseries as the ones we passed by look a little run down. Overall, still a wonderful place to visit and have a nice walk.

An oasis of fauna and flora, a British legacy, left untouched in its natural setting for decades under the stewardship of Tun Lim Chong Eu, marred only by ugly sidewalks by Khee Phaik Chin's cronies during Dr.Koh Tsu Khoon's time. Now a gold mine of commercial exploitation by the corrupt DAP regime, dumping concrete structures everywhere, only interrupted by COVID-19. The monkey troops wish to be left alone in their natural habitat. How can they trust a State government that cannot clean up its act, including the toilets their cronies built, but now left poorly maintained by a swarm of ants. If only the Park management learnt basic hygiene practices in their annual shopping visits to Singapore.

Its like living in Penang but in a different dimension. Very nice refreshing and natural. Best place for hiking, picnic, photography, sport ,exercise and also educational events. Due to covid-19(2020/12/12) only 250 visitor allow to go into it. Need to wait outside the garden. If reach during 830am it will be hot; but before that its very cool and cold. To be honest i like the way separate different species of plates into sector. This make learing types of plants very easy. For hikers there are many ways to go up the hill. For more safty hiking i prefer the entrance beside the entrance of the garden its normal road. For more adventurous one entrance called moongate and entrance inside middle of the garden is recommended. Hiking stick is needed if u are afraid off falling because it's much more oblique and have many staircase. Btw pls keep the garden clean if you wanna go there😉

(Translated by Google) BOTANICAL GARDEN COMPLAINT. CONTROL The limited number of visitors to 250 people at a time is wrong! it causes a crowded group of visitors outside the botanical garden! even in the park there is still plenty of space can still accommodate more visitors! calculations can be made in this way, the length of the road in the park is <> 2500 meters if social distancing to exercise is 5m per person, then it can accommodate 500 visitors instead of 250 people! Another important fact is that FLOW / DIRECTION control in the park is more important than controlling the number of visitors! but no flow control (in one direction) is implemented in the park, this causes the opposite direction which will cause interaction between visitors to be more frequent compared to there is flow control! Plus grouping in the park should be controlled and fines should be implemented! (Original) ADUAN BOTANICAL GARDEN .

Entrance fee: Free Quite a peaceful place now ( since pkp 😂) not so many people visit this botanic garden, so it is the best place to bring your child, let them run and having fun in the nature. But please dont bring any fruit such as rambutan or nuts, the monkeys will kejar you untill u surrender your food 😆 Lots of free parking space available. Great place for a good exercise or walk. Although the smallest as compared to the Singapore and KL Botanical Gardens, this park borders rhe magnificent Penang Hill on its Western side, making it feel larger. The overall maintenance of the park is good, although the formal gardens require more upkeep. Very popular during weekends, with parking posing a bit of challenge. However, it's a wonderful place for some good outdoor activities.

Lots of big trees and various plants you may find here, even have herbs smell sometimes if you walk nearby Taman Herba. Don't be afraid of the monkeys, as long as u dont near them. you may come hiking from some entrance inside here. A huge garden with free entrance and a good atmosphere. The views of the surrounding jungle covered hills are beautiful, as is the planting in the garden. However it is a shame that all the glasshouse type buildings are closed, and look like they have been for a very long time. Sections of the garden are also a bit run down, and there are a lot of monkeys so it's not a good spot for a picnic.

Still a beautiful botanical gardens after all these years! Very well maintained and clean, lots of locals go there for their morning walks/runs or exercises. Entrance is free. You can see the older generation greeting each as they are regulars. There are also youngsters doing photo shoot and instagramming. The forestation is diverse with the different species of flowers, trees and ferns. Only saw two monkeys but perhaps it was just too early. There is a path to a serene lily pond but now there is also the newer bigger Amazonian lily pads. These lily pads are beautiful and actually located just outside the entrance.

Lovely park. We went on a Sunday midday and there weren’t many guests. The park is well designed with great views. Lots of animals such as monkeys (don’t feed them), monitor lizards, butterflies or birds. The special houses for orchids or fern were closed when we visited. There is a small shop where you can buy drinks or ice cream.

Great place to spend some recreational time with family members, a slow stroll through the park. Plenty of locals visiting, but never felt crammed or overcrowded. sufficient space for light sports activities. Not suitable for picnics, or any activities that involves food as this is a park that is situated closely to a forest reserve, thus plenty of monkeys around. Various routes to go through that provides different views of natural greenery.

A couple years ago I came to this park alone and while reading a book was approached by an employee on a motorbike. He harassed me asking for my number etc, wouldn't take me ignoring him as a hint. Pretty soon I called a friend and made my way out, thankfully not too far from the entrance as he rode his bike next to me. Along the way he made a few comments to other workers we passed who did nothing. Thank god he didn't follow me out, this was a very scary experience and hope that no one else has had this happen.

We love to go to this park and just walk around. It is a very large park with a lot of natural beauty. There is also a tram if you prefer to ride around. It is a great place for adults and children also. There are many monkeys there and some large lizards as well, which are interesting to watch. This is a great place to just kick back and enjoy the day. There is no entry fee and it only costs if you want to ride the tram. We have been here many times and will go back often.

  • 2/5 Han San L. 2 years ago on Google
It’s a great green space for the locals and visitors alike to get close to nature. However whoever is responsible for running this place should be fired!! What a waste of Penang tax payers’ money with so many exhibits closed and according to locals, been closed for a long time with no sign of reopening. Local council should really look into this.

  • 4/5 Qasim Z. 2 years ago on Google
Huge place. No matter how many people were there, espacially during this covid time, place could accommodate the crowd easily. Good overall compliance of SOPs by people. Loads of tree shade for adults to sit down and relax while kids run around, enjoy and burn some energy. Overall loved the place. Loads of hiking trails branching from here. Waterfalls and steams going too. Would love to come back with family and do a better planned picnic.

  • 5/5 Tat Mun L. 3 years ago on Google
Excellent place for walking, hiking, photography and even saw on multiple occasions folks dressed up in Cosplay taking cool shots amongst the hills and trees. It’s also one of the starting points to hike up Penang hill. A wonderful place!

This is a good place to do some exercise. You can walk, jogging, running or just relax with you family members. This is time to breath with fresh air and far away from busy day.💗💗 Beware of monkeys especially when uou have any foods in your hand. Have a nice day!!!

  • 5/5 Muhammad Fikri Bin I. 1 year ago on Google
Nice park. People come here for recreational activities. Surprisingly, people still come even if it's raining. The air feels fresh thanks to the forest which also give nature view. The track is good enough to sweat yourself with different train to test your stamina. Go around a few times to really feel that exercise. Got public toilet for ease of use. Overall good maintained public area with plenty of parking.

Went there for jogging with my 3 yo daughter. The place was clean and tidy. A lot of monkeys and birds around. There was clean stream as well. Good place for enjoying fresh air and photo hunting.

Can't believe this place is free. Peaceful, pleasant, believe it or not nice and cool I'm the shade even in the middle of a hot day. The only reason I am rating this a 4 star instead of 5 is that aside from the fern garden, many of the enclosed plant gardens (orchidarium etc) were sadly closed. Still we spent an hour walking through, I wish it were closer to where we live.

Fantastic veiw .. fresh air, clean spring water, natural jungle, wild tree, flowers and monkeys.. This is how to elaborate Penang Botanic Gardens. Very suit for nature lover and family trip too..

  • 4/5 Jonathan A. 9 months ago on Google
This place looks amazing though I would suggest exploring this early morning or late afternoon as the sun belting down on us in the humid tropics can make it an unpleasant sweaty affair. The garden is divided up into areas of plant varieties so if you're a fan of a particular plant group, they are all planted in an area of the park. We'll worth a look and maybe a good place for a picnic on a cooler day.

  • 5/5 Dmitrii V. 11 months ago on Google
Small but stylish botanic garden. Mecca for early morning runners, group dancers, and walkers. Has starting point of "The Jeep Road" to Penang hill - very steep 7 km road with 700+ meters height rise, also some trails like "Black tunnel" starts there.

  • 5/5 Jonathan R. 1 year ago on Google
Wow what a place!! Free to enter and then you are in the most peaceful and beautiful paradise. We saw monkeys, big lizards and turtles on our adventure and even after spending hours there still wanted to return for more! Best thing to do whilst visiting Penang Island!

  • 3/5 Jamie J. 10 months ago on Google
I’m so proud of the Botanical Garden who has the AED machines at every corner . What’s is AED ? An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm. This device is so useful for places like this as not many people know how to perform a CPR . Kudos to the management . This place is really nice for a walk . Spacious and full of tress . But hardly can find flowers here . Overall this place is nice and there are many monkeys too but they are harmless . But remember do not feed to monkeys not because we are scare of the monkeys will chase after you but the authorities will . There will be a fine of Rm500 impose on you if you are caught to feed the monkeys .

Garden was fairly maintained. Services such as shop and tram is not available. Heard that tram will be available on April 2024. Feels more like a recreation park than botanical garden. No entrance fee here. Parking is easy. There is jeep shuttle services available nearby to Penang Hill.

Visited garden during very dry season so there wasn't too much flowers to see. Still worth visiting. Wish they had more guided maps (and it would be nice if those were also in English). Entrance - Free of charge.
