Very popular breakfast spot for the locals, and it's not difficult to understand why. From the very friendly and professional waitron staff, who know the locals by name by now. To the incredible food and baked goods which are on offer. We had a few drinks, cocktails, and a mimosa, and then the main which was their steak. The plating looks good, as is the meal itself. Steak was flavorful and so tender. If you are in the area, this is one of the must try locations, and be sure to take a baked goods takeaway as well.

Popular restaurant near the water on Thesen Island. Loved the decor and whole feel of the place. Loads of seating inside and outside. We went for breakfast which was outstanding. It got very busy but service was still efficient. Loved their bakery which offers a wide selection of freshly baked breads.

Fantastic selection of plant based/ vegan options with such excellent flavours and high quality breakfast and lunch items. All food/drinks in photos were vegan and scrummy. Such a beautiful setting too in a complex with little boutique shops and gorgeous decor. Service was spot on and friendly. Would definitely go again.

Delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere. It does get very busy sometimes, so you may have to wait for a table, and is only open for breakfast and lunch. However, the food is absolutely worth it and stands out as unique and an unforgettable experience.

Was glad I was able to come here during a long weekend spent in Knysna. The coffee is amazing. Food is equally good. Very busy though, so you may need to wait for a table but definitely worth it.

What a lovely gem in Knysna! Came for a brunch and the place was quite packed! We got a table relatively fast though. The decor is so nice, so try to sit inside unless you really want to be out! Their menu is focused on breakfasts, baked goods and light bites, as they also have a sister restaurant that serves lunch and dinner. The coffee was very good, but they ran out of Oreoes quite fast. I had the Apple roll, which was just ok. The breakfast food was tasty - my partner had the polenta chips with an hit smoked trout and a poached egg and I had the scrambled egg over toast with pesto and shaved Parmesan. Their breads were probably the best we had in South Africa so far, as it relates to non traditional bread. Would come back.

Just the perfect spot for brunch or lunch. The orange juice was fresh and tasty and the bobotie spring rolls super yum. It was raining, so we sat inside, but there is a lovely outdoor section under the trees. Will definitely be back soon to sample some of their other delicious dishes.

The restaurant was a recommendation...It is a Beautiful restaurant, with lovely outdoor and indoor seating. The friendliest people are working there, always smiling! Our waitress, Berni, was just amazing! ...Professional and friendly! The food... It was fresh and delicious with generous portions! My son and husband thoroughly enjoyed their burgers! They said it was done to perfection, both the medium and medium to well burger patty. My daughter loved her tacos! The Greek meze platter was equally fresh and delicious! Just a little more seasoning was needed for the tzatziki...after a little sprinkling of salt, it was perfect! The cappuccino was so tasty, I had to order a second one! We will definitely be visiting the restaurant again on our next visit to Knysna! Can't wait to try out more delicious food options!

Absolute gem! Everything about île de païn is just so dreamy - the setting, menu, food all of the glorious bakes! It felt like we were transported! We enjoyed the bread basket along with green eggs and Vietnamese coffee.

A very busy coffee shop on the beautiful Thesen Islands for a reason. It has tasteful artistic decor. The food is good, and fairly well made though not the greatest of selections, possibly due the fresh ingredients and specific flavours that it has. The basker/patesserie is wonderful with its very uniquely made selection that is complemented by wonderful coffee and fresh sour dough bread to eat in or take home. Always a visit when we are in that side of the world.

Very friendly front-of-house with well trained and knowledgeable staff. Highly impressed. If you are joining them for breakfast and you are a fan of breads, do yourself a favour and order a Daily Bread basket - you’ll taste at least five different artisanal breads with butter, apricot and (super tasty) strawberry jam . They are one of few places that serve Flat Whites correctly - double shot, with perfectly steamed milk. It was so good we came back the following day just for the coffee. Tip: don’t order the Daily Bread basket in the afternoon unless you have confirmed that they have all the breads available. We ordered one in the afternoon after asking to confirm whether they were able to provide all the breads (was told that they were able to) - but was left a bit disappointed with few bread options vs the previous day. Ie, order in the morning!

The menu comes across as "pretentious". Lots of big words to describe the food. But that's not an issue because the words match the quality of the food. Breakfast was lovely. Fresh ingredients with amazing bursts of flavour. There's a big

Highly recommended to me and did not disappoint. Staff were amazing and food was perfect. Great cozy atmosphere on a wet and cold day. The French Toast with Berries and Mascarpone Cheese was divine! The Green Envy eggs was excellent and healthy.

Ile de pain is set in a stunning idyllic garden, serving authentic home grown garden and vegan cuisine and healthy juices as well traditional burger and tramazine faire. Well known for their delectable french pastries and cakes.

How can someone create such a beautiful restaurant. One word describe the restaurant “DETAILS” big compliment to the lovely crew for all the kindness, smiles and professionalism. Also the food: don’t have words for it. Just amazing 🫶🏼 please keep up the work. A MUST HAVE WHILE U DO THE GARDEN ROUTE OR EVEN CLOSE TO SOUTH AFRICA 😜☮️💟

We heard from both our hotel reception and TikTok that this restaurant had the best breakfast. Expectation were extremely high, unfortunately while presentation looked good, taste did not meet the criteria. I ordered tje meal with the boiled eggs. Was expecting it to be amazing, however seemed bland, all a mix of flavor and ingredients that did not match. My father got eggs Benedict, butter was rock solid, eggs didn’t look appealing, a very simple nothing special breakfast that simply could’ve been made at home at a much cheaper cost. Lastly my mother got the apple turnover, felt a day old, didn’t seem fresh. For drinks we got 4 cappuccino and 1 carrot juice with pineapple. Cappuccino was good, however carrot juice extremely watery, felt lightened. Overall disappointing, do not recommend the dishes we got. Also asked for any possible seasoning such as Tabasco, was informed they do not have any seasoning other than salt and pepper. Overpriced for what we got.

Very underwhelming. Ile de pain is known for the bread 🍞 and it shows as the food was extremely underwhelming for the amount they charge . The prices are very high and u can see they canter for the holiday makers and foreigners. The menu is difficult to understand to what the food will actually be when it comes out as we had a picture in our mind and then it was something completely different. So we had the Tostadas which for about 150 per meal was ridiculous...hardly any food on the plate and the chicken tasted like tomato ketchup all gold and the food was rather bland and looked sorry for it self ! You can see from the picture that it is very underwhelming especially for the price. The Americanos we had were also just weak yet they sell coffee ☕ beans in house yet can't make a good cup of coffee, also having to ask for sweetness shouldn't be a thing,as no tables had any sweetness at all. Overall won't be back as we are locals we know much better value and better cafes /restaurants for lunch . Only positives are they are open during loadshedding and staff were fairly pleasant. Simply overpriced and underwhelming.

Highly recommend a visit, even for a coffee and a croissant 🥐. But all their food seems amazing. Friendly staff and service. Very professional and found very clean.

Was invited by friends on a really nasty day of rain and wind. Waited almost 2 hours for a table. The service was amazing, the atmosphere was good. The food meh it was good but not great. Their cakes and croissants were amazing. Not sure it was worth the wait, but I would probably go again out of season.

Ate breakfast here while on holiday. The French toast is delicious and the scrambled eggs were light and fluffy. Great coffee and friendly service. The outside area is lovely, but be prepared for the tiny birds who aren't afraid to tip toe onto your plate for your food. My daughter enjoyed chasing them away. An owl lives in one of the trees which was cool to see.

The lady inside was kind enough to offer me a croissant with cheese even they don’t have at the menu because I came very late to have breakfast, staff were nice. Food was perfect ( try the almond croissant) cortado was good and flat white too. They have nice homemade products they sell like pure honey jar, a must on your list .

Fancy hot chocolate. 100/10. Thick and creamy like the best things in life. 100/10 eggs, also so creamy. Only reason why atmosphere wasn't 5/5 is only because it was very crowded and personally I don't like crowds but it has nothing to do with the restaurant overall. (very healthy food options. Lots of different options for any diet (I don't think it's very wheelchair friendly unfortunately for wheelchair users.

Île de païn might not be for the average Joe, but it is definitely worth it for the palet sensationalist and awe-inspiring atmosphere seekers. The sublime smell of fresh breads and baked goods draw you in where you are greeted and seated by the warm, welcoming interior and staff.

I enjoyed their Dragon Burger - quite surprised by the delicious potato skins. The burger is average though, with which the sauce helped with taste. I also had a brownie (which looks more like a carrot ultra mini muffin) - but the artisan's taste I guess 👀😅👌 The staff was very friendly and accommodating 👍++

Isle de Pain never disappoints, today we did the chicken liver with maize meal item and what a pleasure, the maize meal recipe will fetch many followers, the service is absolutely amazing and the ambiance so very Knysna. This is not simply a place to eat, it is an experience, an outing which you need on your must do list.
