Island Cafe A very upbeat trendy restaurant. Built within an old turbine, they have succeeded in retaining the original features and created a restaurant around it. All covid protocols are observed. Staff are very helpful. A good variety offered on the menu. The steaks are succulent and grilled to perfection. Servings are average but tastefully decorated. You must try their mouth watering desserts too.

Amazing hotel! If you‘re lucky you have the best view in all of knysna! Staff were amazing and super attentive. Felt like home at all times! Would always recommend and even go out of my way to stay there. (Spa also incredible)

Very nice rooms. Place use to be a generating plant. Converted into an awesome hotel. Rooms real nice clean. Great setup. Friendly staff. Highly recommend you stay here. Walking distance to everything on Thesen Island.

Interesting and charming, and the location is stunning. We had a very pleasant stay. The hotel owners preserved the original features from when the building used to be a power station in a beautiful and artistic way. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. We were a party of 5 people, divided across 3 rooms. All the rooms were lovely. Our room was on the top floor, and had a balcony overlooking the pool area and canals, it was great! The breakfast was great in terms of variety, but a little bleak in terms of presentation. The coffee machines in the room are a cool feature, but they are temperamental and don't work consistently. All of us had similar experiences with the coffee machines in our rooms. Luckily, room service was available as a backup.

A special Mothersday treat lunch turned out to be the single most disappointing and mediocre dining experience of my life. Eating fish and chips from a brown bag next to a dustbin in Milan rates higher. We entered the Turbine to find our names on the booking list, but no table was prepared. The, what seemed to be 2 managers, (except being in each others way) did not know how to deal with the situation and we were uncomfortably standing around trying to hide the embarrassment. Specially, because only one other table was occupied and for the life of me I could not understand why we couldn't sit down while the confused managers sort out there self initiated dilemma. Absolutely, no damage control skills there. We were shafted to a sitting area just to be called back after a minute. The one manager admitted the confusion was his fault. If the origin of the confusion was identified one would think the hotel would some how try to make up for it. Instead we were plastered at a table with a flower and knifes and forks. A 4 year old playing house house will set a table better. No side plates, glasses, napkins....nothing. Notice I give 2 stars to this experience. The one star is for the soup and the other for the dessert. It was tasty, and delicious. But for the rest .... Even when we paid and were busy with the mobile bank machine it got snatched away. Believe it or not the Turbine was a easy choice since I go there frequently for breakfast and has written a review on them before, because they open at 07:00 it is specially convenient for my schedule. However, for any other dining experience I will only consider them after all my other options are depleted. (Please don't send me a apologetic letter....use that time to find a trainer for your staff)

I booked a treatment at the spa for my husband at 14:30. He waited in the reception area - no offer of a sauna or tranquility services. At 15:05 he was advised that they were running a few minutes late (by this point they were already running 45 minutes late) and they couldn’t advise when they would be able to accommodate my husband. At 15:12 he gave up and left. At 15:22 they called to see where he was. By this point they were 52 minutes late. The attitude on the phone was abysmal. Won’t recommend to anyone

The rooms are lovely and spacious, the hotel breakfast was lovely and the staff were very friendly. The hotel itself is not 5 stars as the carpets look quite old and dirty.

My mom and I love a spa soil and we have been to many. Turbine Spa is definitely one of the best spa's we have ever been to. We love their Turbine Trio package. It is profetional, special and put together so well. What a treat every time we go. We hope to see you again soon.

Hmm , don't have the marina view suite unless you want to be both on top of the restaurant ( literally) and next to the kids playground where the kids SCREAM from midday till 9.39 Breakfast great. Btw had an awful steak ( and they replaced it) in Sirocco (next door) However turbine is a great lication

Stay away!!! The hotel was really bad. We slept in the sounds of an electric generator! I couldn’t sleep with that noise at all. The generator starts from 8:00 PM and stop at 2:00 AM in the morning. The price was high compared to the other hotels nearby and the reception was not helpful. Also, I booked 2 rooms by mistake and they declined the cancellation of one room. I paid for two and used only one. My room number was 110

Visit often for business meetings. Great venue for presentations, good facilities and food for a reasonable price. Beautiful venue on thesen island. Could do with more parking though.

We had great time with my wife, and everyone who saw our pictures on status updates want to vist this hotel. We are definitely coming back before the end of this year or early next year. Palatable food, nice people, beautiful views. Most of them all the sunset boat cruises, thank you very much to management and staff.

Amazingly restored Hotel from an electrical plant, there are so many details from the door knobs to every corner in the hotel. It really feels like a museum with a touch of many cool colors. The breakfast is absolutely amazing. The continental breakfast comes like a high tea in England, so one is actually enough for 2 persons, the homemade granola is the best. Then they serve you choices of a hot meal by the plate from a menu (eggs, pancakes…). Every person working there are always so helpful and very kind.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Turbine Hotel. We booked there 2-night pamper package which was an absolute bargain! The room (Room 201) was spacious and comfortable with everything we needed. The staff was super friendly and willing to help. We enjoyed the pool and poolside service at the Island Cafe and tapas at the Gastro Pub was also lovely. I can't recommend this place enough. And thanks so much for the ladies at the spa for the best massage I've ever had!

Had a pleasant stay there. We had business workshops and this boutique hotel was perfect setting. Built on heritage power plant it was a unique experience

What a unique experience. Awesome! There is nothing quite like it in the entire South Africa. Not cheap - prices consistent with boutique venues. The industrial setting is fabulous and renders a steampunk feel - the entire visit emerse one in a feeling of the romanticism of yesteryear. Not including it in your garden route itinerary would be short sighted. Don't miss out...

How on earth can anybody ever post a good review ? I had my Pre booked Christmas Lunch yesterday at this establishment. It consisted of exactly the following. One Brussels sprout , on small roast potato , one small baby sized carrot and one egg sized lump of lamb that they called a leg of lamb. This portion size didn't even make up an average children's starter portion. All in all it didn't weigh more than 200g. For R450.00 ? Yes , I did have a starter that consisted of one picked onion , 2 small Pickled carrots and some other ungodly thing. Oh and I had an eggcup sized ice cream. FOR XMAS LUNCH !? How this place survives , only God knows. I will definitely put it out there that for those people who have no eating disorders , or are healthy eaters and are not hell bent on watching their waistline to look good at gym , that they must stay away from this place. Overpriced , ripoffs.

Nice Boutique hotel on Thesen Island. Lots of gastronomy options nearby. 10min walk or 3min uber drive to the main road of Knysna. Very spacious common areas and a nice Spa. Breakfast is fabulous.

What a fabulous experience! Built in a reclaimed power station, the decor is industrial and eclectic. So stylish. The staff were fantastic. We will be back for a longer stay.

We had a wonderful stay. Everything we could possibly need was available. Our room had a beautiful view, the bathroom was just something else, had an outstanding view. The food quality was great. We had an amazing time at the spa. I loved the fact that they kept the old power station machines to add to the overall hotel decor. The service from everyone was superb 👌🏿

Thanks for a lovely stay! We had the Oyster Suite for our wedding and it was the setting for the girls getting dressed on the day and our honeymoon suite for after the wedding. The Turbine Hotel also made for some stunning photo opportunities! 5-stars all around! The only negative that was outside of anyone's control was the bird that decided to serenade us loudly at 4:30am on the balcony the morning after the wedding haha!

The best place to stay in Knysna if you want to be central for the vibe (atmosphere) near the harbour. Excellent contemporary design with quirky features of the historic turbines. Staff are very friendly and helpful. And highly recommend the sports massage at the spa 👏

Very nice hotel and excellent restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. Service is a little bit slow for breakfast, but food is very good. The steak I ordered for dinner was fabulous!

We recently stayed at the Turbine Hotel for 3 nights. It was absolutely fantastic. From the time we arrived until we left.....we received 5 star treatment. The spa, breakfast, staff, location, service, views and overall....you won't find a better place. Thanks and we are looking forward visiting you again. A very special thanks to Loren and Candice for going beyond and and above

We went on a motorbike trip from Jeffrey's Bay to Knysna, and stayed in room 103, on the first floor overlooking the swimming pool.. It was lovely to relax in the bath while enjoying the complimentary water served with a slice of lime, and watching TV at the same time.. The room was so beautifully decorated. We will definitely come again... ♡

The Turbine Hotel was a great experience. Loved the space - arty, creative and quirky. Exactly what we like. The service and personnel were brilliant. Luppy in the Gastro Bar was brilliant, Songi from the restaurant always remembered our standing breakfast. Will Definitely be back. The people, experience, design and rooms were phenomenal and have absolutely no complaints at all. Only compliments for this amazing hotel.

We were blessed to have wonderful staff attend to us. Louise and her staff took care of our special requests and ensured we had a superb stay. A very historic and unique hotel with lovely colorful interior decorating. Food was magnificent, a wide spread of breakfast choices, dinner was equally scrumptious and well presented.

Cool pub in old industrial look and fancy cocktails. But the cocktails lack quality. The restaurant and the the pub are separated in two areas with in and outside sitting location. Unfortunately the location is not able to manage that little snacks or meals can be served in the pub even they are mentioned on the menu. Most of the times i come here the pub is not very busy and still the service needs ages to serve the customers. Improvement heavily required! For the overall location price more can be expected such as price per night .. i would not book.

My family and I had a beautiful stay at the Turbine Boutique Hotel. The hotel's eclectic style and stunning location sets it apart amongst others & provides a beautiful ambience for guests during their stay. If you enjoy taking pics to post for social media, then this hotel is for you, each and every inch of the hotel is worthy of an IG post. The hotel is well situated and is in walking distance to great restaurants and water-based activities. The rooms are spacious and well designed. Breakfast was good and reception staff were friendly. Big thanks to the Chef and his team for going the extra mile in making my birthday special. Thank you for an awesome stay!
