We stopped at Nostalgie when visiting Oudtshoorn on the way to Knysna. It came highly recommended for dinner by our hotel, so we thought we’d give it a visit. We were glad that we made a reservation, as they were fully booked the evening we visited. We arrived at the restaurant and we were seated and given the menus. The restaurant is quaint and charming, and although not my usual cup of tea, we embraced the authenticity of it and it’s surroundings. Xavier was our waiter, and he was nothing short of delightful. He was efficient, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Oudtshoorn is famous for its Ostrich farming, so we were intrigued to try it at Nostalgie. We started with the Chicken Livers, which were really delicious and flavoursome. We both went for the Ostrich Steak, which was very tasty. I would say it’s similar to a very lean Fillet Steak, but with a deeper flavour. The dish came with a selection of side dishes and some excellent sauces too. It was very rich so we didn’t have room for desert, but they also sounded very good. Overall, we had a great time at Nostalgie, and it was incredibly good value. There were lots of tourists as well as locals, and it’s a clear sign that Nostalgie does what it does very well. If visiting Oudtshoorn, you’ve certainly got to stop for lunch or dinner at Nostalgie.

Flippen brilliant. ( hubby's words) I was not expecting this when we came here. We sat down, ordered. They brought our food so quickly (I prepared myself to wait a while, were a large group, including kids) and all the dishes came at once. Everyone could eat together. Food was perfect! Their burger was out of this world and the steak was just perfect. Not overcooked, underdone or cold. Encore! (I am not exaggerating!) I understand why this place is rated nr. 1 on trip advisor.

A lovely restaurant. Delicious food (large portions, too) at a very reasonable price. Amazing Dom Pedros and cheese cake. The staff is excellent and we had a lovely lunch in the shade underneath the trees. We'll worth a visit.

After a long and exciting day, our host recommended the "Nostalgie". I've never eaten ostrich before and what can I say? It was a revelation! Both the fillet and the dessert were simply outstanding! If you come to Oudtshoorn, be sure to visit this wonderful restaurant and let yourself be enchanted by the local cuisine.

We had such a special family meal on our recent visit to Oudtshoorn. Amazing food with generous portions, giving you a genuine taste of SA. The milk tart was the best I've ever had. Quirky decorations and lighting creates a warm atmosphere, and the service was really friendly- they even gave us a free starter! So pleased that we picked this spot.

Arrived 10 minutes before loadshedding (planned power outage) and expected to be affected, but were pleasantly surprised. Exceptional service and exceptional food made this the best restaurant experience of our 3 week trip - that included some high end dining in big cities. The ostrich carpacio, baked camembert, and Dukka with olive oil and balsamic starters were exceptional and set the tone, paired with a great Merlot from the decent (and affordable) winelist... Ostrich shank. ostrich fillet and ostrich stroganoff main courses were to die for - and even the 3 veggie sides were exceptional, with the baked pumpkin worthy of its own dish. Portions were very generous and we couldn't make room for any desserts. but ended the night with great coffee. Highly recommended and we wish we could stay another week to sample more!

Very nice restaurante in Oudtshoorn. There is a variety of options and different ways to try ostrich. I had the grilled fillet and it was amazing, cooked at perfection. Very nice detail when bringing the bill with cookies for the table.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nostalgie, and I have to say, it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere, with its cozy decor and friendly staff. But of course, the real star of the show here is the food. Nostalgie proudly serves traditional South African cuisine, and everything I tried was absolutely delicious. From the perfectly seasoned meats to the flavorful sides, each dish was expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. What really stood out to me was the quality of the ingredients - it was clear that the chefs here take great care in sourcing the freshest, highest quality ingredients available. And the presentation of each dish was just as impressive as the flavors, with beautiful, artistic plating that made each course a true feast for the eyes. All in all, I would highly recommend Nostalgie to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The quality of the food is simply outstanding, and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about their craft. Five stars all around!

We enjoyed very nice food here. I ate an ostrich burger which was very interesting to try. The waiter kindly recommended me to try ostrich for my first time as a filet and noch as a petty. This was a good recommendation, the burger was very good. Besides visiting during load shedding everything worked fine. The patient had some troubles due to the WLAN but this problem was figured out fast.

Lovely intimate atmosphere, friendly waiters and lots of different options with reasonable prices. The pumpkin tart side is to die for! They also have interesting food specials. A must-visit if you're in Oudtshoorn!

Quaint place, antique items on display. My word the softest and tasty Ostrich Shank...YUMMMMM Hubby was more than happy with his Ostrich Filet. Our waitress was a pleasant lady as well. The chocolate cake with ice cream was smothered in chocolate sauce. The sauce was delicious however the cake was more a dense thin pudding. Overall I would have loved to try the Bobotie, frikkadels...the whole menu! When driving through Oudtshoorn, go have lunch there. Oh and their homemade lemonade was just as good. Inside you can buy fudge, date balls, preserves, the lemon- and pomegranate syrup too. Thank you Nostalgie for great service and food

Even with load shedding, the food was fresh & tasty. My favroute dish is the Deep-fried Camembert, topped with a green fig and green salad, served with Melba toast.Great dish for a light meal (under the menu as a "starter").

Ate here after going to the ostrich farm. The menu looked good and we decided to go based on reviews from a Facebook group. Overall the experience was nice but the service wasn't the best but on a South African level it was good. We decided to get a soup and salad to start - the soup was supposed to come with bread but didn't. The salad was a Greek salad but didn't have any feta cheese. How can you have a Greek salad on the menu and call it a Greek salad when there is not feta included in the salad!? For our mains, we ordered ostrich fillet and a sweet potato with grilled ostrich. Both were good and it was a nice experience trying ostrich - the meat is a bit like beef but sweetish. Eating here was nice, the food was good but I don't think it would be top of my list to return again. I think if you are looking for a cute/Quant place, definitely come and eat the ostrich but don't expect it to be above and beyond.

What a lovely place to have our last dinner before leaving Oudtshoorn this morning. Very friendly, helpful and happy staff. A quaint restaurant. We chose Nostalgie because of their vegetarian options. We were feeling a bit meated-out. We had the vegetable korma curry and the vegetarian wrap. Both were delicious. The cocktail selection is also a delight. I had the Naked Naartjie - citrus based - refreshing. Well worth a visit. Thanks!

In our opinion, the best restaurant in town. We only tested 3, but this one turned out to be a clear favorite. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Payment takes place in house at the entrance, which speeds up and simplifies the process. The food was delicious and the price-quality ratio was reasonable.

One of the best places to get some authentic South African food. The meals are all well presented and prices very affordable. A pleasant atmosphere and the service is good too. A must visit if you are in Oudtshoorn.
