Let me start this review by saying that Mario is an absolute champ and the perfect host. In this hostel it is immediately clear that this place has been made by someone who has been in the travel/tourism industry for a while. I stayed I the dorm and it was everything you hope to find as a backpacker. Every bed has curtains for some privacy, outlets (plural!) for your charging needs, a little light, safe storage and lots of space to still utilise in next to your super comfy bed. Shower and toilet facilities are also up to spec and there is a lovely pool to take a dip in on a hot day. But perhaps the best feature of Uthando is the vibe. At night there are shared meals and there is a fireplace all set around this stunning tree that takes the centre stage in this hostel. We had an absolute fantastic night full of good food, cold drinks and loads of laughter. We came as strangers and left feeling we made new friends. My only regret is that I only stayed for one night. Mario best of luck with the business and I truly hope my travels will one day take me back to Oudtshoorn so I can stay again at this unbelievably nice hostel and see all the improvements that you have planned to make this even better. You have the vision and created a slice of paradise my friend, very well done!

This backpackers is absolutely lovely, the owner was so accommodating. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and this place screams old time travel heaven with the ethos of providing a beautiful place to meet new people and socialize once all the renovations have taken place. Be sure to check in here for your stay in Oudtshoorn

This hostel was just absolutely stunning. Everything was super clean, the beds were amazing and you get your own plugs and privacy. The bathroom is clean and beautiful. Outside is even better, beautiful braai area, a swimming pool etc... Thank you to the owner Mario for the warm welcome, we had an amazing time.This place is really worth your visit!

This was my second time at Uthando backpackers lodge and both times were a unique experience. Such friendly and helpfull host and he made the stay so personel. My future stay will be at Uthando backpackers lodge next time I'm in Oudtshoorn again. Thank you Mario for your excellent hospitality and friendly help. You rock my man!!!! A great new hoste we found by accident the owner takes care everything himself. Traveling during covid time he is only open in oudtshroon. The owner grew up in the area of garden route and gave us many valualbe travel tips we wish we knew it earlier. Super helpful. The most important he showed me how to make S.A Braaiiii properly! 👍 If you passed Oudtshroon overnight this is good choice.

The first time I came here with an organized tour group. It was a very nice stay which was characterized by the cozy and funny atmosphere in the evening. Because of the hospitality I came here again a few weeks later on our Garden-Route-Trip. I will remember the time here with pleasure. Thank you Mario for everything!

The beds are so comfortable! A well thought out, well designed backpackers' lodge. The private rooms are more like hotel rooms, with private bathrooms, then a traditional backpacker's pleace. I wish them all the best x
