A literal hidden gem right off of I-35. There are three levels of tours. The Adventure is best for families with young children or those who aren’t interested in crawling into tight spaces. The Hidden tour is a medium challenge for anyone over age 7, and is the one we did. The Wild requires participants to be over 13 and involves crawling and getting into and through tight spaces. It looks amazing and we will come back and do it at another point (either when the kids are older or as an adult date). Our tour guide, Tawny, was friendly and very knowledgeable. The caves are really cool and the tour gets you to see a wide variety of formations and features. There is also an area above ground where you can buy bags or buckets of dirt pre-loaded with semi-precious stones, replica arrowheads, or fossils and then “pan” for your treasures in the sluice. My kids loved it. There’s also a small playground which is well maintained. We didn’t go on the zip line ride although it looked fun. Overall, highly recommended. Although the tours aren’t cheap, they are well worth the money and give you a good amount of time underground.

We went on a Thanksgiving weekend and it was not crowded. We were able to join the regular tour in 10 minutes. The tour is around 90 mins. The guide was great 😃. He had a sense of humor 😁. The cave had about 3 large halls. inside was warm so no need to wear any jackets. This is not a wheelchair or stroller friendly path. But you can take infants on a baby carrier.

Amazing cave structures can be seen here. I did the hidden adventure tour which involved some nice paths, not too tight. It was very cool and educational. The air was a bit cooler and a whole lot more humid down below. Our guide was good, she shared some things and made family appropriate jokes. Overall the tour was about an hour and a half long. The wait was about an hour. Its worth a visit, especially if caves are your thing.

What am amazing place!!! The map on the wall was so detailed and made me want to explore the cave. It was fun to see the seated zipline outside before we made our way inside. So many interesting fossils and bone specimens. Very impressive. Great selection of souvenirs and gifts!!! The snacks and drinks looked very inviting although we didn't have any as we had already had lunch. Definitely a great tour for the whole family!!!!

Amazing caves! Wish we had done the wild cave tour instead of the hidden passage tour. The hidden passage tour was still amazing! But the wild cave tour would have been really fun! The caves were amazing! Make sure to wear closed toed shoes with good grip because it's slippery.

Beautiful cavern. Tour guide was low energy and seemed perturbed by the children talking. Wish I could have been on a no kids under 7yo tour. Really enjoyed this cave. No bats in December.

We really had an awesome experience visiting the caverns and learning the history and science behind the formation of the rocks inside. The deepest part of the Cavern is 70ft from the surface. Temperature down there was around 72 F and relative humidity was about 98%. I found the atmosphere to be more comfortable than the Texas summer. And not to mention, the view is amazing. There are even some phosphorescent rocks which actually glow after a light incidence. All tours are guided tours and our guide, who actually minored in geology, did a really great job explaining all those cavern sciences to common audience. The visitor center has souvenir shop, small cafe and restroom. Btw, the tour includes a photo session where they will take a picture which you can get a print for $12 at the end of the tour. Plenty of parking spots on the premises. Ticket prices is $22 and you won’t repent if you’re interested in this kind of stuffs.

An absolutely amazing and informative tour, including the history of the discovery, of the caverns and their importance to both the geological and paleontological records, as well as a nesting place for the local bat colonies. Our two teens were fully engaged, and are now keen to explore other cave systems in central Texas. Special shout out to Rachel, our tour guide par excellence! She has a great gift for making the tour a memorable experience!

More about money than conservation, and a big wait for them to up-sell photos in the initial area of the cave. Some beautiful cave rooms, but overall experience was low compared to other caves in the area. First, the tour groups are relatively huge, and tours were packed in closely after another, so we were frequently passing another group, too. This made for a very noisy trek and some people were touching what they could reach while the guide was a long distance away "guiding" the first few people and seldom waiting for the rest of the group. It might be good for taking younger kids, but adults that don't like experiencing a cave while dodging a bunch of other people and louder than an 8th grade auditorium.... Probably a pass.

Fun informative cave tour. Takes just over and hour. Easy walk and great for kids. Some very beautiful rock formations. You can get get tickets online or in person. Make sure you check out the daily schedule, there are many school groups who book certain time periods. Tours are leaving about every 15 minutes. Must be able to walk the 1 mile stretch. No wheelchairs or strollers are allowed

Great fun, but go when it is less crowded. They do tours every 20 min, but they are 30 person max. I first arrived, like an idiot, at 1:30pm on a Saturday, probably their busiest time. We would have had to wait till 3:40 for a tour. Luckily, we were going to be going by again on Monday. We went Monday morning, and it wasn't crowded at all. The cave being cool is a nice break from the summer heat, too. You don't need hiking boots, but some nice shoes with socks that get good traction certainly help. Overall I love this place. I have been 3 or 4 times, and went again today to take my son for his first time.

I've been wanting to visit this cavern for years and finally had the chance to do it. I was not disappointed.😁💓 Parking is free and easy to get in and out of. They have a gift and snack shop in the guest area and the restrooms are very clean. They offer active duty, veteran and retired discounts as I'm sure a senior discount as well....be sure to ask for this. Tours run often and the tour guides are very knowledgeable about the cave and ready to answer any questions.💪 The cavern itself is AMAZING. It stays nice and cool throughout the year. The rock formations are incredible and the passageways are fun to travel thru. The lighting inside make the formations come alive and the views of each "room" are spectacular. It's quite a treat to see what nature has carved after millions of years.👍 There are a ton of restaurants and hotels within the general area. This was well worth the drive from Houston.🚗

Great place for kids. The guided tour was great, informative and fun! The last part of experiencing pitch black darkness was amazing! And the kids were amazed to see a few rocks that can reflect light in the dark!

We visited the place on a weekday and there were quite a lot of people. We didn't wait long to enter the cavern. It was a great visit, we had a very good, funny, and knowledgeable tour guide. Our boy, who is 4, enjoyed the visit too. Highly recommended for families.

I love caves, and this was a perfect side outing while visiting Austin! Approximately 3/4 mile total walked, about 70ft deep is the depth of the cave exploration. Tour guide was friendly amd informative about the history and maintenance of the cave. Cute little souvenir shop and a little zip line activity. Enjoyed it immensely!~

It's a hole in the ground! Very cool, multiple guided tours available (took the one in the dark, only a group of 6 of us). They start about every 30 minutes or so. Wear closed toed shoes that have some grip, you can't bring food into the cave (some kids had to throw away or finish candy first) and temperature is fine (I wore shorts and a light sweater but took it off shortly).

The Adventure tour was great for our family reunion activity today. Our tour guide was great and made sure to wait for everyone to talk about each spot. We even had our grandmother with us and she did not have trouble keeping up. The ramp back up is a climb though.

This attraction has something for everyone. The cave is good-sized and has enough rooms to make for approximately a 1 hour tour. It features many enjoyable sites and formations. There is adequate parking out front and they provide restrooms in the lobby area so GO before you enter the cave. There is a charming gift shop and a small snack and lunch area that includes outdoor seating and a modest playscape. Many groups of schoolchildren go to this attraction regularly so expect a crowd of kids. The tour guides are knowledgeable and can answer most any question. Unfortunately, this attraction is not for the mobility challenged... The cave floor is uneven with lots of slopes, bumps and slick areas.

Great cavern with amazing experience. There’s a interesting story behind the discovery of this place. This place offers guided tour which will take you 70ft down the ground to experience some really awesome geological formations. They have several tour packages with the cheapest one of being 1 hour long and was $22 when we visited. The tour guide will be explaining everything. P.s. Didn’t see any bat there.

The tour was great. Exploring the cave the whole family enjoyed. Panning for gems was interesting my son loved it but I would recommend not buying the buckets, a couple bags are more worth your money. And the zip lines was fun but not worth the ticket price. All in all it was an amazing experience that I would do again.

Great experience. Awesome caves with an easy path with hand rails and mats for safety. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the caves and their history. We took the Adventure tour, but will return to do the Hidden Passage tour on our next trip!

Relatively busy on a Friday and had to wait about 20 minutes. Addie, the tour leader was informative and had her spiel down pat! She was personable and did a great job. The tour was interesting and the cavern structures fascinating. For a person with a knee problem, the walk was a little treacherous with the uneven and sometimes wet floor. There were rugs laid down for more traction in some areas and hand rails in some areas as well. However, you were given strict instruction not to touch anywhere and I did my best but with the floors as described, one might need to catch their balance. I am not sure why the did not have some seating along the way (over a mile total)at the 'scenic' spots which would have been appreciated. Overall though, a fun experience.

It was an experience. Very informative and fun! Enjoyed my time on the tour in the cave. Tour guide was very informative. Not too expensive for 2 adults ($49) gift shop wasn't too expensive either. Not only could you go on tours of the caves but you could also buy bags/bucket of dirt and find gems/fossils from the area. Very cool 😎

Beautiful cave in texas, Austin. The tour guide are wonderful. Its about a mile hike down and a mile back. It's cool and warm at some areas of the cave. Do carry water or portable fan and wear comfortable shoes to hike. There is also professional photos available as soon as u get in for purchase. It's $12 per photo. And has a shop u can buy souvenirs.

Great tour which takes about an hour. No strollers are allowed and low ceilings in places make it tough to bring little ones. If it's tough for your kid to keep their voices low, not touch things, or plan out a bathroom visit before the tour then you reconsider the appropriateness of the visit for your family. My daughter (8) says it was great because the tour guide pointed out a lot of interesting things. My son (6) says it was great because there was a lot of stuff you wouldn't normally see.

We had a blast going here. We did the 1 mile walk into the cavern. Our tour guide had a great personality and made it really fun and educational. We will definitely go back. Next time I want to do the long one where you get to crawl through the smaller holes.

Lots of fun for the family - we went with my sister in law and her daughter, and the girls loved it! The tour guide was very interactive and seemed to really enjoy giving these tours. The girls also did the Zipline ride, which they absolutely loved.

My parents brought me here in 1997 for the first time when I was 11 and I was just in awe of the cavern and the little bats along the way. This weekend, I brought MY 11 year old and he was just enthralled- even saw little bats! My 7yr and 8 yr old loved that something this amazing was once home to mammoths and saber tooths, while being 70ft below the surface. Of course, we had to visit the gift shop and grab some fudge!

We stopped here during a trip to Austin and took the adventure tour. Not a hard walk at all, so suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Wear shoes with good traction as ground is often wet. Such a surprise to find a beautiful, tourable cavern right next to I-35. In fact we went under the freeway during our cavern tour. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!

Our family enjoyed this tour so much. We were blown away by the beauty inside the cave rooms. And our tour guide Logan made the experience! He was really funny and knowledgeable. I have 3 boys (6yrs, 11yrs & 12yrs) and Logan joked with them the whole time. They immediately asked to go back and only want Logan for the guide! But I’m sure all of the guides are just as fun.

This was a very interesting place with a very good guide that was very knowledgeable able the caves. She had an answer for everyone questions. I would recommend this tour which was great for all ages. This is a walking tour and sometimes it can be very steep and slippery so where good shoes and be ready for a hour long hike inside a beautiful cave. I recommend this tour it was very informative and beautiful.

Beautiful cavern with tours leaving every 15 minutes. The tour is over an hour long with beautiful rock/ cave formations. You will see stalactites and stalagmites, soda straws and maybe even a bat. There is even a zip ride that’s worth doing.

We had a great time with the whole family, it was amazing. My advice is to come to the opening or a little later, in this case the groups will be small and you will get more pleasure from visiting this place
