Have heard of this place for many years but finally made it there today. Everything positive I have ever heard is on point. The food was fantastic, especially the BBQ (which, of course, is why people go). The location was also in a neat little area of Germantown. The service was also good and the food was ready fast. I can't wait to go back and try the brisket.

This is a really fun little BBQ place! It was recommended by a friend so we tried it. As soon as you get out of the car your mouth starts watering from the smell! 🤤 Erica was our waitress and she was very attentive and went above and beyond along with good conversation! Thank you! The sides were DELICIOUS! The sweet potato fries have brown sugar in the batter (I think) so they were SO good. The ribs were a bit dry but based on everything else and the atmosphere I give 5 stars. Wonderful service! Side note: Restrooms were fairly clean.

The first thing you need to decide when you get here is whether to save room for desert. The coconut cream pie is just wonderful and even though banana puddin is the thing to have with BBQ…it’s good enough to make you rethink. As this is one of the most popular places to eat in the area, consider off hour dining or bring your patience with you. Parking is tight and there is frequently a line out front. Been here many times over the decades and it’s just as good now as it was 25 years ago. Great service by Kristin.

A bit disappointed, wanted to love this place based on the reviews. Ribs were so dry I was constantly squeezing out sauce just to make it edible. Brisket was even more dry. Bread was kind of stale, was not a big fan of the deviled eggs either. “Jumbo shrimp” platter ended up being 8 small shrimps, was definitely disappointed by price. Shame to say that the best part of the meal was the pig chips which were just thick sliced potato chips. Banana pudding was old, left a thick oily residue on your tongue. Disappointed.

Definitely recommend this place hands down. The food was delicious, ended up getting 2 more orders to go because it was that good. We set right by the window and watched two trains go by. My kids loved that part. For 5 people and everything we ordered was a remarkably good price. With a$30 tip everything was a little under $200

Really good BBQ in Memphis. Imagine that. Lol. The mild sauce is really good kind of sweet which is what I like. So I put it in my ribs and brisket. I forgot to take a picture of all the desserts We got. But the banana pudding was great. The chocolate pie my wife ate was good. A little chewy but good none the less and the brownies the kids ate were bigger than we expected. the kids gobbled them right up. I ate all of my coconut cream pie. It was pretty sweet. But too good to stop. We’ll definitely be back.

Solid bbq spot in Germantown, potato salad and banana pudding were excellent. Pork was solid, over atmosphere felt like an old country highway store with great service. Menu has much variety.

Overall fun experience. Fantastic customer service. Great eclectic aesthetic and charm. The food was very good Memphis BBQ. Loved the chicken and the BBQ sauce. I shared the Boss Hog, which was four meats and two sides, with my business partner. More than enough food for two people. The sausage was very flavorful and so good. The sweet tea is especially sweet, but so good. And I loved the lemon pie! I highly recommend trying this place out when in the area!! PS. That is a bologna sandwich in the background which mu friend shared a bite and it was oh so good!!

I’ve had BBQ from here before but as a catfish connoisseur I had to try the catfish this time. I will honestly say it’s not in the top 3 when it comes to catfish. I know sometimes a BBQ spot will also have amazing catfish so it was a gamble. I will just come back for BBQ.

We stopped in for lunch on our way to Franklin and boy am I glad we did! The two of us split the 4 meat plate and still took a box full of food to go with us. Not pictured are the yummy sweet potato fries!

This is a quaint BBQ restaurant with really great food and service. We had the Pig Sticks for an appetizer and ribs and brisket for our meal. The manager , Tammy went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of and our server, Sandra was quick to recommend just the right meals for us and provide great service. This is a great place for ribs!

Jade the server is great. Ribs were dry. Best not to order ribs in afternoon or evening if they only smoke one batch in morning?? Pig sticks need flavor the breading overpowered the potato. Beans need flavor too. The pulled pork sandwich was good. The chocolate pie texture was like glue, we didn't eat but s bite. I was hoping for a better experience as it came recommended.

Got the Turkey nachos, and a burger for my wife. Omg, it was so good. Thre wait for the burger was looking, but Katie took care of us during the wait, and kept us posted. Adding to my favorites is a place to come back to, and I'll be requesting Katie as our liasson for an awesome experience.

This is a must stop in Memphis to the best location. As soon as you walk in you know it’s going to be great! Service was spot on. Super friendly staff. Food. Brisket was amazing. Link was delicious. Pork was the best I’ve had. Not dried out. Go go go!

Like a Time Machine! This place is such a throwback - the decor, pictures, architecture, floor. The place is oozing smoke and is wonderful. We started with the smoked wings and they were good. Note: they are fried after being smoked. I got the sliced smoked Turkey plate with green beans and Brunswick stew. If you’ve never had Brunswick stew, please order it. Wonderful savory flavor with great ingredients and a hint of sweetness. Everything was delicious. My wife got the fried catfish and fries and said it was great as well. We finished it off with a slice of homemade caramel cake which was INCREDIBLE. Wonderful butter cream icing with fresh, moist cake. I recommend the chips and bbq nachos as well.

Visited The Commissary on a Wednesday night and it was so great! The atmosphere was rustic and nostalgic, the staff was as friendly as could be, and the ribs were SO good! Me and another person split a full slab and they were everything I expected it to be. Tender, Smokey and seasoned well. We also ordered the bbq nachos and those were a hit! There is a reason this place is known for having some of the best ribs and bbq in Memphis

On 10 Feb, I visited The Commissary BBQ in Germantown, TN, for the second time within a week. My first meal was dine-in, served beautifully to compliment the hickory smoke taste. I was so impressed with my first visit and ordered the same combo meal but a different experience on 11 Feb. When I got home, I was very disappointed by the taste. The meat was hard, telling me it was old and the membrane was still attached, which I removed. The veggies and mac and cheese were delicious. The bread was tough (OLD). While dinning in, the spaces are very tight. The saga continues that take-out orders are the same as going through the drive-through.

This restaurant was on many "must try" lists and blogs when I researched the area. I do not believe it warrants such commotion. Started with the deviled eggs, they are served ice cold, one of my son's loved it the rest of us not so much, I personally wasn't a fan of the relish in egg mixture. The chili was good but heavy on the tomato flavor. The kid's meal BBQ pork sandwich is a good and decent portion for price, it comes with a banana pudding dessert (it had a gritty consistency, kid's didn't like nor eat it) Ordered the 3 meat plate (forget what was specific name) - the bread is bland and lacking, the cole slaw was super runny and very sweet, the beans also had a heavy tomato base & flavor, the ribs were very skimp of meat and very far from fall of the bone, the pulled pork was cold and dry, the chicken was pretty good - however all the meats had great smoked flavor. The bottled sauces were okay. The bathrooms were clean. Not enough parking, heavy traffic street, restaurant backs some train tracks. Still on the hunt for the best BBQ in TN.

Great place to enjoy the best Memphis bbq I've ever had. Tons of meat on my sandwich. The pig sticks? Oh my..I loved them. Great tasting beans and the sauces are awesome. Great prices. Great service.

On my trip to Memphis, this is my favorite place to go. Tons of food, low price. I literally had a table full of food in front of me and spent about $40. I had everything from a burger, the pulled pork, to loaded fries, to appetizer tacos. Finished off with a brownie. The parking was not the best, the food more than made up for it. I didn’t finish my entire meal, so I asked the waiter to wrap it up. He misunderstood me, when he came back he gave me the check and completely forgot that I asked him. He apologized and asked me to wait a few minutes. 10 minutes later, he brought me out loaded fries and a cheeseburger to take home. Excellent customer service after a minor misunderstanding. Definitely take the trip if you are in Tennessee. Five stars!

Best BBQ in Memphis. 2 meat plate was huge. Moist and tender ribs and pulled pork shoulder. Erika was delightful and provided on point service. Don't leave town without eating here!

The brisket and ribs were dry and ribs were a bit to tough and couldn't taste much smoke flavor either sides and service was grate tho. It is a bit crowded in there very small space and parking lot is only meant for 10 cars have to park across the street.

Fun place to eat. Pig sticks are surprisingly good! Deviled eggs are fairly bland, BBQ is ok, but I've experienced stuff that was so insainly good that nothing seems to compare anymore... Service was great! Atmosphere was comfortable!

New big daddy plate with ham, bologna, sausage, cheese, etc. was great perfect for a big group, it's like redneck charcuterie! Throw in some fresh made pork skins and that's a meal!

A quaint, rustic bbq joint. We visited for dinner. The place was decently packed. The server was nice. We got a half slab of ribs, and a jumbo brisket sandwich with two sides. The brisket was not much good. To be honest, I have had terrific brisket in Memphis area only. These briskets were dry, and hard. The beans, slaw, fries and onion rings were rather good. The ribs were decent. The portion size was good. We could not finish the entire food. To finish the meal we ordered a banana pudding, which we have been told that they are famous for. Well, we didn’t like that much, or, it could be an acquired taste! Overall, we didn’t find the place worth of its hype.

Popular BBQ place - the ribs were juicy but did not find it any special than the homemade one I had. I loved the chips though - as well as the sausages we ordered on the side.

Pig sticks (sweet potatoes fries) and turkey were awesome. Love the fact that the diner is next to the train tracks making it a real "whistle stop". If they would just put fried green tomatoes on the menu....

The food was amazing, our waitress was attentive, and the prices were reasonable, being from Kansas City, Missouri, I really don't like Memphis barbecue but this place serves great BBQ, I definitely recommend and definitely will be coming back.

We ordered the Boss Hog Special and added the bologna burnt ends plate. The bologna was good, nothing special to it. All the other meats were good. The brisket was my least favorite but other than that it was all good. Probably one of the best places in the Memphis area to get a meat plate.

The staff was fast and friendly. The brisket and banana pudding were the best we have ever had. We visited Germantown Commissary over ten years ago. We remembered how good it was then so we wanted to see if it held up to our memories. It did!
