A wonderful open space filled in nearly every corner with either a play park, a piece of art, or a well-kept garden. There are plenty of activities on offer for nearly all ages. A butterfly house, learn house, and a workshop. Small food shops and standard kiosks are scattered about the park. Plenty of WCs mean you're not stuck looking for a stop. All of the park can be reached in one or another way by foot with a buggy or in a wheelchair. If it is raining or bad weather, the experience would be greatly affected but not a wash out.

The water park is a top favorite for my son! He absolutely loved it. It’s well equipped and fun. There’s an area with sand and also with hard cover flooring so that’s good. There’s food stands about 5 minutes away from the water park and the walk around the area is absolutely beautiful. All the flowers, butterflies and everything made the day really beautiful.

This is an excellent place to take children (perhaps aged 1 to 12 for the playgrounds) in a dog-free place with plenty of playgrounds and extensive gardens. The cost is reasonable (€5 adults, €3 children - August 2022). We go a few times a year and stay about 4 hours each visit; the playgrounds are scattered around the western part of the park; the east has nice walks and children's learning activities (in German) and a small but must-visit butterfly house (costs a little extra). Maxipark can be very busy during NRW school holidays (which don't include the last week of August it seems: almost empty during British Bank Holiday Monday). Central playground has lots of water activities (pumps, streams, fountains etc): can be useful for children to have a change of clothes (or swimming costume). Lots of parking but also frequent buses (numbers 1 and 3 I think) to Hamm railway station (about 25 minutes).

My favourite park in Hamm, absolutely love the butterfly house. Additionally all the swings and slides are extremely fun for the children. Finally, I would recommend to the fellow gourmet enjoyer, the cherry pie at the restaurant. Hopefully, this pandemic will release its strain soon enough, so that we can enjoy the beauty of Maximilianpark even more.

They’re complimented by an array of statues that pay homage to the history of the site. The butterfly enclosure is beautiful and houses numerous species from around the world.

It’s usually a great park with lots of playgrounds. But we visited on a very hot day and there is little shade in the path of the park and playground. We left sooner than we plan because of the heat.

This is the first time we paid for entrance fees to enter a park. Yes we do know that there are other parks that collect entrance fees too but we are quite upset we had to pay for everything else again except the glass elephant which is free to go up. If you are bringing your own food, and the weather is not exactly warm or dry enough for a picnic, you can hangout in the top floor of the glass elephant. There are tables, chairs and a great view. Some art pieces laying around as well but that's all for the glass elephant. There are quite a lot of play area for kids, some wet and some dry. In my opinion, kids older than 12 might not enjoy those playgrounds. The pay to enter butterfly enclosure was nice. It's not big and doesn't carry a lot of species but it does has a lot of butterflies and caterpillars and you can see them up close. There is a Lego "exhibition" and we are unsure if it's a temporary or permanent feature but yes you need to pay to see some Lego display. It was a rainy day and there are not a lot of shelters around the park so be very careful with your planning. A family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids we paid 13€ to enter the park.
