Although there are a lot of shop houses and beautiful wall facades around Singapore, this is probably one of the easiest place to take photos of the shop houses at a go because it’s across a relatively quiet main road with wide pavements and enough distance to take wide angled photos. (Most other shop houses are along small roads and even alleys) . The shop houses themselves are relatively well maintained and colour coordinated. They are not as intricate as some of the standalone shophouses that u will also see in the area.

Nice colorful houses to take pictures in front of. So if you are into IG maybe worth a visit. But not a place where you would spend long periods. The roads remain open, so when you take your photos might have to wait for the cars to pass, not a busy road though.

A very nice district to visit and in which you have to get lost in the small streets with very colorful facades. There is a main street with the houses that you can find on all the tourist guides but it's worth the detour ! Very lovely place !

Wonderful shophouse architecture up and down many streets throughout this neighborhood. Definitely worth pictures and time to wander into side streets in between stopping at the many shops and cafes.

Gorgeous houses! I'd been wanting to see these for a while and finally got there. Highly recommend a walk up vibrant Joo Chiat Road (from East Coast Rd) to get there. Lots of interesting things to see on the way. Really enjoyed this area in Singapore and will be staying there for future visits.

This place was listed in websites as one of the most instagrammable places in sg. And it really is, especially after some after effects to make the photos even more colourful and contrasty. It can get dangerous though since it’s a busy road so be careful when taking pics and stepping on the road! Also best come in early morning or later in afternoon so you don’t get the midday sun on you.

Love the vibrant colors! It's quite a busy road so you need to have patience to wait for the road to clear to take photos. Beautiful 🩷

Breathtakingly beautiful. A bit outside the normal tourist area, but definitely worth the time it takes to get there. Take the subway to Eunos station and then walk from there. Alternatively there's a bus stop closer by. Surrounding area also seems nice.

These houses actually are gorgeous, but each house actually has their owners. So, please take your pictures but also respect the properties.

8 colourful houses on either side of the road. Visit if you are around the area or going through this route.

As you look through the history of Peranakan culture, Singapore is one of the main hub together with Melaka, Penang and Phuket. This row of multicoloured houses in Joo Chiat Rd preserves the Peranakan culture in Singapore. It retains the aesthetic nature of the house and fence design. There are signs of colour fading on some of the houses. And, the 2 last houses either sides are under renovation. It is perfect to snap your Instagram photos here, but do be careful of the weather. It gets too hot at times and it will suddenly rain as well. Prepare the umbrella. And there are a few cafes just at the corner to cool down also.

Despite the hot weather, we strolled along Joo Chiat Road towards Koon Seng Road vicinity to view the Peranakan houses. Along the way, we saw a few building facades restored to their Peranakan heritage. The covered walkways along both sides of the road made the journey more bearable in the sunny afternoon. In the vicinity of Koon Seng Road, the facades of buildings and residences have been carefully restored to showcase their Peranakan heritage. The complement of colours, shades and architectural detailings is impressive and picturesque. As the weather was hot, we did not venture far from Koon Seng Road but will return another time to explore the area.

Very beautiful Peranakan architecture houses. Please take care as these are on an an open main road and are peoples residential houses! Alight by bus stop further down and walk over, or can take a car ride to a nearby landmark then walk over.

Definitely worth the visit. We caught the 16 Bedok bus from Concorde Bus Stop on Orchard Rd. Very easy to do. After seeing the houses, you can then eat at the numerous shops. Then catch the bus back. Set aside about 2 hours for the round trip.

Awesome place to take photos. But be mind there are people living there.

The houses are very picturesque but there is nothing nearby and it takes quite some time to get there. There is no MRT stop anywhere close. The houses are also not as many as you’d think. Just 3 patches of 4-6 houses in a row. Be respectful of the inhabitants. People live here. It’s not just a photo spot.

The shophouses along Koon Seng Road and Joo Chiat road are iconic for a reason. Beautiful and full of history. Highly underrated place with so much history behind it. I wish more people (Singaporeans included) understood and appreciated this part of their history more!

Not sure what is special about this particular place. We can find peranakan houses in so many places around katong/littleindia and so on. Only thing is may be some might find this is insta worth spot for pics

  • 5/5 Zac S. 1 year ago on Google
Neat spot worth a few photos. Only takes 5-10 mins to stop by. It’s cool people live here still! That said sort of feel for them having so many tourists take photos of their house all day long.

History place about Peranakan. The house and the museum not connected. So, visit to see from outside only. Hope for more experience to see inside the peranakan houses To visit here you can go to Eunos MRT St and continue your journey by walking around 1,5km. Not that far though. There's a church nearby, when you see it. That means you're close with the Peranakan House. The Peranakan House is really eye catching so it's easy to find. It also colorful so this is a good place to be a photo spot when you visit Singapore.

I love the beauty of the building and exploring with my kid to introduce her to the culture and history of the place. Oh... Just google to know it and visit the place. I went by car but you can also take the train to alight at Paya Lebar and slowly walk along the shophouses, it's a great exploring trip. I love it! IG: mommyserene FB: serenehengheng

Awesome sight, beautiful house in vibrant colours! Able to see some peranakan tiles for 1 side of the houses. Nevertheless getting there was slightly inconvenient since it was not near the mrt station.

I've already looked up for the famous Prenakan Houses before I arrived in Singapore and I thought I would miss going there. I realized, though, that it's actually just a walking distance from Village Hotel Katong where we were staying during our last day. These houses are so pretty with their layered cake-like colors! It's really instagrammable as everyone said.

Old shophouses from the 1920s and 1930s painted in bright colours and Peranakan (Straits Chinese) motifs. Possibly one of the most photogenic areas in town and somewhat off the beaten track for tourists. I would highly recommend this place for tourists who are into photography or local culture. When here, please watch out for traffic since there are many cars using the road. Please also be considerate and don't trespass onto the front yard since there are still people living in these houses.

You can see what we called Peranakan style house here. Very colorful and very traditional houses lined up this street. Those are actually normal houses and still residents are living thouse houses. So be careful when you shoot or hang out this area.

Good for a photography enthusiast. But there is nothing else to see or do here. It is just a row of about 6 houses. There are other spots around SG one can get similar shots, if you don't want to travel so far just for this one. This is the most iconic though. And very instagrammable. Expect traffic on the road in front of the houses, and lots of people posing for their IG posts. As a photographer you may have to hang around to get the perfect shot.

Pretty decent for a first time visit. They added dustbins in front of the houses which is a huge bummer and oversight from whoever approved it. Plenty of cars passing by, and traffic lights make it hard to get an empty picture.

Koon Seng Road was named after the businessman Cheong Koon Seng. The design of Peranakan houses in Singapore had great influence from Malacca Peranakan the hybrid of Chinese, Melayu and European cultural. Built after 1920’s during the late Shophouse style - the most spectacular style with its decorative motif. Together with many shophouses along Joo Chiat Road, this stretch of Peranakan Houses also part of URA conservation shophouses. Don’t forget to take a look of 19 Koon Seng Road which is award winner of AHA.

Be careful of cars when crossing the road to take pictures, as it is a busy public road. Side walks are also wide enough without the need to walk onto the road for pictures.

Iconic colourful Katong houses a must visit for tourists looking to see how the old houses in Singapore used to look like. Although revamped and repainted, the structure remains giving you a glimpse of the past. Also with Dunman food centre near by it’ll be a great place to sight see and grab local delights.

A very quaint and cozy side of Singapore, with old houses - some dilapidated and some well maintained. Do not just view this street from the front, take a walk in the alleyway and gullys behind the houses to get a glimpse into how these residents live!
