My fiance and I arrived in the evening for our stay in Ghent. First off, William is the fantastic. You'll understand. The entryway has a portrait of a nun made of tiny pictures of models wearing underwear. I don't know if the models were nuns, but you can't rule it out. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast in the morning is great. There's a wide selection of food to choose from, the orange juice was good, and they had a decent cappuccino machine. Outside the dining area there's a grassy courtyard with tables and chairs for you to relax, enjoy your coffee, and maybe read a book. Also there's an empty church attached with great stained glass windows and decent angles for some photos. Definitely recommend staying here. Tell them Nathan sent you. It won't get you anything, but they'll know what it means.

This is an old monastery turned into a fantastic hotel, congress venue and restaurant. Imagine having congress in the old church, an amazing experience. The hotel rooms are small but remember, this was a monastery. The breakfast is good. If you want extra enjoyment while in Gent, go to Monasterium.

Brilliant hotel. Just getting the chance to stay in a former monastery was amazing but this place exceeded expectations. The room was comfortable and quiet, the bathroom was super clean and had a massive shower, the breakfast buffet was brilliant, and all the staff very friendly and helpful. Perfect location as well, as it was only a very short walk into the heart of the city. Would love to stay here again.

Lovely place and excellent location to the old town. If you include breakfast you won't regret it! 😊

great option for solo travellers on a budget, if you're looking for a break from hostels. The "slot" rooms (monastery bedrooms) are very comfortable, I slept great, they're cheaper than the prices on google. Breakfast was 22€ but it's an all-you-can-eat buffet so worth it if you eat big breakfasts. Lots of options including eggs, cereal, yogurt, sausage, bacon, pancakes, cheese, and so many types of bread. The coffee machine latte was also surprisingly good! It is a bit noisy (in the sense that you can hear other people around, not that the guests or area were particularly loud), and a little grimy, like other reviews say but if you're a frequent hostel-goer surely that won't be a problem. That's just a consequence of staying in an old beautiful building.

This hotel was a good stop for a weekend. Premises & furniture's were awesome. Team was helpful and super friendly. The location is central to the city as well as to many activities. it's a real good deal.

Beautiful is an understatement! If you’re looking for unique accommodation, rich in history, and located within walking distance to the old town centre, Monasterium Poortackere is your go to. The rooms were so comfortable and the breakfast was delicious and certainly plentiful! Thank for the wonderful stay during our time in Ghent, having the opportunity to stay in an old Monastery was such a fantastic experience.

Good hotel, friendly staff, could do with hiring some more people so reception doesn’t have to run both front desk and the bar.

Quiet, comfortable and spacious with super friendly staff. It’s not in the middle of the action, but just 5-10 mins walk to city center.

I like this hotel place! Locatlon is close to the center, qiuiet, green, and with monestarium vibration. Very good brealfast! Comfortable bed and room. Morning birds singing In the garden trees. Feel like home. I am back always when visiting Ghent for business.

Cental location, good spacious rooms, quiet. Reception was mostly unoccupied and behaviour of staff a bit weird. Nevertheless allover it was OK.

The buildings that make up this hotel are beautiful and are room was clean, but a lot of things could have been better. There wasn’t coffee in the room (we had to get some from reception), the windows didn’t close all the way making it a bit noisy, there wasn’t dish soap and a sufficient cloth to wash dishes in the kitchenette, rendering it a little useless. There wasn’t a shelf in the shower for soap (although the shower itself was nice). The light bulb in the bathroom was burnt out so it was a little dark by the mirror, and the parking and breakfast were overpriced, making you feel nickel-and-dimed during the stay. I’m no religious nut and generally difficult to offend, but the “art” in the reception hall is distasteful at best, and offensive in my opinion. I would have hoped more respect would have been paid to the previous residents of the hotel.

It was okay floor creaked a lot, some rooms more modern than others (since my mum had a separate room). Very nice breakfast though.

I wasn't expecting it to be super quiet, due to the age of the building, but there was a wedding party booked till 3am. The room is of course single glazed and the music echoes through the halls regardless. The worker at reception said the owner has had multiple complaints about parties but doesn't care. They should be forced to try sleeping in one of their own rooms, for reference the sound averaged around 60db and peaked at 71db (I got bored). If the party ended at a reasonable hour I would have enjoyed the building and the ambiance, if you want to sleep avoid this hotel like the plague.

Despite I did a late booking for one person and we ended up for 2, the staff was super cool to adapt my booking. William at the reception was super polite, nice and helpful. Thanks

Such a nice place to stay, and a great location! The staff were really helpful - especially Willum, who helped me rearrange my booking when my flight was cancelled. Would definitely stay here again!

I had a very good stay in Gent here. The rooms and facilities are very reasonable especially for the price. The private room and bed is comfortable with a small desk for using laptop. Overall it's a large premise with a bar, chapel and gardens (garden in photo). Very peaceful and beautiful ambiance. Despite it being the first night of the Gent Festivities on my final night, it was still quiet and peaceful in my room. The standout feature of this hotel is the service. William at the front desk was extremely helpful and kind. He took time out to tell me about Gent and provide advice on where to visit and what activities to do. William is a gem and the heart of my positive experience at Monasterium Poort Ackere.

Beautiful hotel & friendly staff. Rooms are big and we'll equiped. Walking distance to town. Available parking at a reasonable price although there are just a few parking spots. Great experience.

Cosy hotel in a very unique setting. A former monastary, housing some 60 nuns now offers space for 104 hotel rooms, a supercool eventspace (former church) and conference rooms. The garden is also a treat in summertime. Great beds!

The receptionists of the hotel are unbelievably helpful and kind. The rooms are luxurious. The hotel is modern and antique at the same time which is a killer combo!

A beautiful building with very comfortable, very light rooms. Friendly, helpful staff and a beautiful breakfast. The location is perfect for a short 5-10 minute walk into the historic centre. Loved staying here!

The Monasterium is well maintained and impressive-looking, with clean and comfortable rooms, a cozy bar, and a spacious open area for seating outside to eat, drink, or work. Most importantly for me, the Frontdesk representatives are caring and helpful; they provided me with invaluable assistance in retrieving a couple of important items after I had already left the country. Thank you Vital for all your help! Thank you Mark! I would definitely stay here again.
