Lucy Chang Gent

Restaurant Asian restaurant

😐 Today I visited this Asian chain, located in the centre of Ghent. The area around here is vivid, but can be quiet at times too. There is quite a big selection of Wok and Curry dishes. The food we ordered was good. Overall, there were no problems. It's just a shame that this restaurant lacks authen... People often mention Asian, good, Lucy, Chang, recommend, Thai, curry,

Today I visited this Asian chain, located in the centre of Ghent. The area around here is vivid, but can be quiet at times too. There is quite a big selection of Wok and Curry dishes. The food we ordered was good. Overall, there were no problems. It's just a shame that this restaurant lacks authenticity. The people who serve here are never Asian. There are also many Uber Eats deliverers who have to barge in to collect the dishes. The waitress was very friendly, but I would have liked a little bit more presence of her on the floor. When she was there, she spontaneously came and did everything there was to be done. Lucy Chang only gets 3 stars because of the (sky) high prices. 20 euros for a dish at noon or 3 euros for a small bottle of Coke (25 cl) is a bit steep.

After a bad experience at Lucy Chang I wrote a review. The owner then responded with apologies and “please contact us by email so that we can work something out with you..”. And they actually work it out with me. I later returned and the “staff issue” was resolved! Great service and the food is absolutely nice.

The food was decent but there was nothing spectacular. Also to be noted if you're a traveler is that they don't accept Visa or Mastercard, only cash or Maestro card (whatever that is). There is no sign out front to denote this, only a footnote on the front of the menu. I had to walk about a half a mile while my girlfriend waited so we could pay the bill. The food wasn't nearly good enough to be worth the hassle.

Mostly coconut milk with curry, without vegetable, the tofu was fried to greasy, airy inside. To expansive for what you get, mediocre food. Certainly will not recommend to others.

Initially the menu seemed thin for veggie options, but there was in the end quite a lot of choice and they adapted the Thai green curry for me. It was amazingly good with tofu. My partner had the Malaysian yellow curry which was equally as good. I recommend this place and would go back again.

Lucy Chang was a great surprise in the city of Gent. You don’t expect the quality of Chinese food in a European country however Lucy Chang did it, and the food was simply amazing . The service is so good and fast and the view in the street itself was pleasing The offer free Wi-Fi. The menu has various options and the prices are extremely reasonable and the portion is large. They have very clean and free toilets, The seating inside and outside is overall part of a lovely experience. If you are in the city of Gent, I recommend you give it a visit.

Lucy Chang is a small chain of Asian fusion restaurants. I'm an enthusiast of Asian cuisine in general and visited several countries in South-East Asia, so I'm quite familiar with the taste of common local (street food) Asian dishes. To master each of these Asian countries cuisines is already quite a challenge when it comes to finding all the necessary (fresh) ingredients and the skill it needs for the preparation. Lucy Chang however tries to offer as well as Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese dishes... (a near impossible challenge) with a mediocre result. Thai people may feel offended with the pseudo chopped off Buddha head on display for interior design. Lucy Chang may be suitable as an introduction for westerners who have no clue which Asian cuisine they prefer, but people who have a preference for a certain cuisine (be it Thai, Japanese, Chinese or Vietnamese) will be better of visiting a specialty restaurant. The interior design is quite nice, but it's also a fusion of different Asian styles.

Update: we had a very good experience with the staff from the restaurant afterwards. They handle complaints with care and look for a solution with you. Original review mentioned a rude staff member (who will be talked to) and we got very sick after the meal (they’re looking into the shipment of their produce).

The food was delicious. Our server was friendly overal but sometimes seemed very annoyed for no reasons. The restaurant is very nice with a good atmosphere. It can get quiet busy so best to make a reservation beforehand. It is also on the more pricy side so not very student budget friendly. But they do offer social deals sometimes which can really cut down the cost.

I had a truly disappointing experience at this cafe. My family and I arrived with our newborn, hoping to enjoy a lunch in a remote corner of the cafe. However, our hopes were quickly dashed when the waiter, in an incredibly rude manner, informed us that we couldn't sit in the corner. He seemed agitated and clearly unhappy about our presence. Ultimately, we decided to leave, and the waiter showed no remorse or willingness to accommodate us. I would not recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere.

I got a product with pieces of metal, after a conversation they agreed to cook it a second time, unfortunately, of course, they made it clear that I could be lying. I sent them photos that I put on the internet .. later there was another problem because they did not want to deliver food to me because they did not have an uber .. after the conversation I said that if we don't get the second course, we will give them an appropriate opinion and finally they agreed.. a very unpleasant man with a black hair came with the food, claiming that I am a princess who deserves everything.. when I showed him the rice with a metal piece.. he took it out and began to eat in his mouth next to me not seeing any problem.. and making a fool of me for not eating this dish.. tasteless.. I threw at his feet a bag of food that they were preparing for the second time, who knows what else you can find there.. I do not recommend!

It's OK. It gets some inspiration from many Asian countries, without sticking to the authenticity too much. Some dishes are better than others (the Massaman curry was actually pretty good!), others lack a bit in taste (fried noodles are much nicer in Yaki Noodles, or in many Chinese restaurants). Desserts should be avoided here. It's good, but it doesn't excel. If you know what (chinese, Thai, Indian,...) you want to eat, I would go specifically to such a restaurant instead. Pricewise it might beat this place, and taste wise certainly.

Delicious Thai flavours 🙌 just missed a bit more spicy food, but that’s just me.

Ordered beef chow mein, got a vegan starter (since the beef chow mein was barely halfful with almost only vegetables). Gonna get some burgers since I am still hungry now.

I ordered pad Thai via Uber eats and the foods was barely edible. The chicken tasted like it was boiled, there was no flavor to the noodles, and there wasn’t even a lime.

Nice place with a lovely atmosphere, spacious and with lots of different options for food, from wok to curry. Very fast service, big portions and very tasty.

Worst experience and unfriendly waiter pushing us to leave (started with drinks). Cannot recommend this place!

Annoyingly small rations for the price paid. Definitely a scam. 30 euros worth of food barely fills you up. It's VERY OVERPRICED and definitely not worth it. Many other restaurants have better rations for more affordable prices.

Friendly staff, food is tasteful. One negative remark: someone of the kitchen personnel came sit on the empty table next to us and began smoking... Not really a positive thing for our appetite.

Very tasty food! Great service, but waiting time was quite too long. And it's a little bit expensive ;) Still recommendable!

Nice decorated places with old photo's and stuff. Prices are high... probably due to the location. Pretty big variety of Asian food.

I recently moved to the area and this is currently my favorite place to eat! Very tasty food and I will recommend their food over and over again.
