It is in the same place that the ancient north gate of the Roman walls occupied two thousand years ago. The two imposing circular towers that can be seen today are from the medieval period. On one side of the enormous door, the Basilica of Sant Feliu; to the other, the cathedral square. A “movie” site… Or a series.

Be careful, the prettiest part is once you pass the door, don't forget to turn around. It is located at the foot of the cathedral

Altres temps...

The Portal de Sobreportes has its origin in the 3rd century Roman wall that surrounded the city. Later (13th-14th centuries) the cylindrical towers were added on the outside on top of the Roman towers. Within the walls, above the arch, we can see an image of the Virgin with the Child.

The Portal de Sobreportes, in the past, was a three-gate that had the wall of the city of Girona. We find it in the northern area of the plaza of the Cathedral of Santa María. It belonged to several noble families of Girona, among which is the Sobreportes family, from which it retains its name. Above the door, on the side that faces the Cathedral, there is the image of a virgin to whom, in the Middle Ages, prisoners who were going to be executed prayed.

Imposing and massive medieval gate on the site of a former Roman gate, of which individual stones still remain. Located on the way between the basilica and the cathedral, it is worth a stop and an intensive look.

Monumental and standard, this medieval door flanked by two enormous circular towers, located on the north side between the Cathedral and the church of Sant Feliú. Built using the walls of the old Roman gate, it is impressive to see the ancient ashlars with which it is built.
