Little but beautiful museum. For anyone interested in Glasgow City’s history. Free entry. Top floor is closed for maintenance. Clean toilets. There is also a coffee shop. Huge grass fields outside.

Free place to go and explore! The museum was really interesting and had a lot of cool displays and parts of the exhibits. I loved the interactive bits and thought it was a perfect spot to get out of the rain and read about Glaswegian history.

Parking is free and entry in free...so what are you waiting for. It has the full story of Glasgow across 3 floors, as well as a cafe & toilets. There is also a lift if you can't handle the stairs. Spent 2 hours here before closing at 5pm. Will definitely be back, as I feel there is more to digest.

Lovely building full of very interesting artefacts of Glasgow through the years. We enjoyed our visit very much. Had a decent cup of coffee and a snack in the cafe area. The toilets were very poor. I understand its an old building but the toilet seats weren't even secured properly and the restrooms were not very clean. This is the reason I cannot give it 5 stars.

Very easy walk from George Street where I was staying, clear regular signage along the route It was closed so not able to review the interior of the Palace The grounds are OK but the resounding feature is the fountain. Will return when it's fully open

Beautiful place with amazing history. No gate takings and you don't have to book to go in. You however can make a donation to the running of the place from just £5. It's also got a coffee shop where you can have a cuppa during your tour. Amazing staff, very helpful

This was an interesting place to visit. It was free entry. The exhibits are based on the life of Glaswegians. This palace was built as a place for everyday people to visit. Very informative without lots to read. It was a great place to visit

An fairly interesting free entry museum but there's not much to see and you'll get through it pretty quickly. Nice building and fountain though.

I love this museum, It should be more popular!! The information inside is very well displayed, with big wall size pictures, we can see the interior of rooms dating to the beginning of the 20th centuries (there is also a shop and a bunker) and objects to explain how people lived. The topics covered: the first and second world war, the house crisis, poverty, justice, entertainment, holiday and the first bourgeois. The pictures taken are moving, mixing slums and group of children playing in the building stairs, it made me feel both lucky to be able to live in a proper house, but also nostalgic to an era that I didn't know, when neighbours knew each other and whose children could play around without restriction/fear of strangers. This museum is for me a rare exemple of the right level of text to inform and well displayed to be eye-catching. In addition, the person at the entrance of the museum was really nice, he said hello and goodbye with a big smile.

Free entrance for everyone. What a lovely place! A splendid way to travel backwards in time! This place truly caters to the public, keeping diverse areas vibrant. The stunning architecture and garden surroundings could easily pass as a filming location for "Downton Abbey." Kudos to the incredibly kind individuals standing at the entrance all day, braving the cold to offer every visitor a proper welcome! Ensure you contribute a small donation to play your part in sustaining this establishment (I've included the QR code in one of the pictures).

Great museum, lots of information but not too big and all doable in an hour if you wanted but equally you stay for a few to get more detail out of the exhibits. The cafe has cheap drinks and snacks after too. Lovely location in the park and great attentive staff who are very knowledgeable. I'm really glad I came here while I was in Glasgow for a few days.

The People's Palace in Glasgow is a must-visit attraction for anyone visiting the city. The museum offers an immersive experience into the history of Glasgow and its people, with a range of exhibits and displays that are both informative and engaging. The exhibits are well-curated and presented, with a mix of interactive displays, artifacts, and multimedia presentations that bring the history of Glasgow to life. The displays cover a range of topics, including the city's industrial heritage, its social history, and its cultural significance. One of the highlights of the museum is the recreated streetscape of Glasgow in the early 20th century, which provides a fascinating insight into daily life in the city at that time. The displays are beautifully designed and bring the period to life in a way that is both informative and entertaining. Overall, the People's Palace is a fantastic museum that provides a window into the past of one of Scotland's most vibrant and fascinating cities. Whether you are a history buff or just looking for an interesting way to spend a few hours, the People's Palace is definitely worth a visit.

Was disappointed to find out that the Winter Gardens is closed for a while as that was why I wanted to come here in the first place! The actual museum is open, nice history of Glasgow and its people/culture, etc. Smallish museum. Free entry and easily accessible from city center or by bus (<10 mins walk from nearest bus station).

It’s free and no booking is required. Also free parking. This museums shows the history of Glasgow and gives visitors an insight into how Glaswegians lived, worked and played in years gone by through collection of objects, photographs, prints and a film. Greenhouse (Winter Gardens) is closed though, not sure if and when it will re-open. There are toilets throughout the building, lifts for those who may need extra help and on the first floor there is a café.

It's good, but shame the glasshouse section has been closed for years. Used to like to come down here when I lived nearby and walk round the gardens if it was cold or rainy. However on the plus side the Doulton fountain outside was actually operational for a change.

With its location being a bit outside of the city centre, it is around a 20 min walk from queen street station. The palace itself is pretty entertaining to walk through if you're interested in the history of Glasgow, but otherwise it is not necessarily worth the visit. The garden house was not open when I visited though, that might have made it better.

It’s a good passer of time to wander through but could do with sprucing up a bit. Felt a bit stuck in the past in terms of presentation (a bit like some of the displayed items!). It has the potential to be something greater just needs some financial investment and some TLC.

People’s Palace is nicely with the Glasgow Green. A lovely architecture and heritage. Lovely place to bring the family, the children would love it. It’s a free entry but currently temporarily closed due to the COVID restrictions. Easily accessible for wheelchair 🦼.

It's a great museum, I really enjoyed it. There is a café in the greenhouse with rare plants. I think it's a good place for photo shoots.

I enjoyed this place for its detailed social history of Glasgow covering the terrible housing conditions and significant contribution to the British empire through its industrial base. The layout is looking a little tired and at times the displays read like a council advert. Also the winter gardens is closed indefinitely following covid. Free entry. We caught a cab there as it's half an hour walk from the city centre.

Lovely architecture. Free entry. Nice place to bring family. Big grounds on the outside for picnic when the weather is nice and a lovely playground nearby. Lots of free street parking along the Museum. There’s a nice cafe in the winter garden. The display is great to introduce the little ones with some of the things we grew up with from the early 1960s-1990s.

Took my son for a look at some Glasgow Culture and he enjoyed it, especially when he got to pose with The Benny Lynch cut out 😁 Winter Gardens was closed, which is a shame, and shortens the visit👍 The fountain in front of the People's Palace is STUNNING and loads of greenery about to have a picnic or a wee rest 5 minutes walk away is an Adventure Playground with big slides and climbing, there's also another park next it for smaller children

What a (good) surprise to visit this People's Palace. It displays various themes such as the housing problem in Glasgow, WW1, the wealth brought by slavery in colonies for cotton, tobacco and sugar, socialism,etc.... The entrance is free and the staff is very welcoming and friendly. I definitely recommend it.

The palace is small compared to other museums in Glasgow. But going there preferably by bike is worth it. It is located in Glasgow green and its free to enter. You'll get insights from Glasgow,s past and how the city evolved over time. Staff's attitude is nice.

Nothing special.there is a fountain which represents the different nations which were dominated by england before 1947. The garden is fine for walking. If you want just to relax this is a good place.

  • 4/5 Dave C. 8 months ago on Google
Free museum in a historic building in Glasgow Green. Gives the history of Glasgow, but from the working person's life vs. a general broader history. What did people do for work, leisure, and how did they raise families. How did that change over time? What about when war came? What was housing like? Good way to spend an hour. 3 floors. Best for adults.

I was visiting a friend in Glasgow and he mentioned, as he knew I liked history, to go to The People's Palace which is just a little walk from the main city center of Glasgow. As we got there you are greeted with a beautiful green park with a big obelisk right in the centre of the Park which is dedicated to the late Lord Nelson, victor of the Battle of Trafalgar. Erected only a year after the battle, the funds were raised by public subscription during the countrywide outpouring of grief which followed the death of the victorious admiral. Walking towards the front of the Museum, you see a great big fountain which was first erected in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park for the 1888 International Exhibition. Then in 1890, the whole fountain was transported two and a half miles to a new location on Glasgow Green. It was then moved for a second time in 2004 to outside the front entrance of the People’s Palace. The fountain depicts the four colonies of the British Empire and then on top of the Fountain, Queen Victoria herself. Going into the Museum itself was a rather interesting walk through time and history, the the left of you when you enter the building is a cafe for you to relax in whether you do that before or after is completely up to you. In certain rooms, there are Costumes for people to dress up in, all being Costumes worn by people from the early years of Glasgow.

I really enjoyed visiting People's palace. There were loads of amazing photographs from historical Glasgow and I think that it offers a very good glimpse into the history of the city! They had several interactive stations where you could dress up which was nice and I especially enjoyed an exhibit of a realistic livingroom from the past. The artifacts within that exhibit seemed genuine and you could smell a very peculiar (seemingly authentic) smell that really left an impression on me. I never had such a multi-sense-experience at a museeum! Absolutely wonderful.

An interesting place to visit in a nice riverside location on Glasgow Green. I've seen the nicely mixed exhibits several times now but I still find them interesting. And there are temporary exhibitions that change. When I was there it was displaying black and white photography taken by camera club members in 1955. It was a pity that the winter gardens were closed when we visited. Lots of the exhibits are child-friendly; and it's quite a small museum so good for families for an hour or two. And if you do bring children there are two playparks nearby (one for younger children, one for older ones) a couple of minutes walk away. It's free to enter, donations are welcomed.
