The doctors that I have dealt with here have mostly been wonderful, considerate and professional. There are one or two women on reception that are quite literally the worst people I've ever dealt with. I called to get a repeat prescription order and as I had moved home, instead of being compliant and professional, the receptionist removed me from the practice. When asking where I wanted to collect the prescription from, she was extremely harsh. She would just reply “NO.” after I said the name of nearby pharmacies, and would sigh as though I was wasting her time. This expression of irritability is incredibly unprofessional and seems to be a common theme due to other reviews.

Only giving two stars because I feel like this clinic is understaffed for the volume of patients and my doctor was lovely when I talked to her on the phone. Very thankful that she gave me her direct line so I don't have to go through the absolutely horrendous main number. I hate giving bad reviews, especially for places that aren't businesses, but I have no other way of getting in contact with anyone!! I am an international student and have been sick ever since arriving this year. The booking system is the worst I have ever seen... why we cannot schedule appointments for other days is beyond me. I would imagine it'd make the entire clinic run a lot smoother, no? I have worked similar positions so I obviously understand that it's a stressful job, but the receptionists are always incredibly rude and impatient with me when I cannot understand the rapidfire Glaswegian accent through two phone receivers, or when I try to be a little assertive with securing a slot. If you DO secure a slot, the doctor won't even see you in person! Only photos of your affliction submitted through the portal. All because of COVID regulations? With the abundance of home-testing, this should not be what's in place at a healthcare clinic. There are other illnesses other than COVID during these times (in fact, more people are getting severe routine illnesses now)! Took me almost 2 months to get a throat swab for my severely swollen throat (which I had to do myself... not even a look in my mouth from a doctor), and have had other practices email asking to refer me to an ear/nose/throat doctor multiple times and haven't even received an email. Very frustrating, and maybe even irresponsible to have this practice be the primary for a school with such a large population of international students who need an easy way to navigate the NHS for the first time. Please don't comment apologizing, my problems would be rectified by being contacted/referred/examined by the doctor. Cheers.

Says to call at 08:00 to make appointments, but the line wasn't open till 08:30 and I've been waiting for seven minutes already for someone to pick up. 29/12/21: Tried to call because doctor didn't send the right amount of medication to the pharmacy, now I'm without necessary medication in the holiday while I'm trying to get work done. No response. 30/12/21: Tried to call again, no response after almost 45 minutes of ringing. Called at 08:30 as they request.

I’ve had an appalling experience with a receptionist named Natasha while trying to collect my prescription today (04 August 2021). I arrived at the surgery at 1:03pm right when my lunch break started to collect my prescription. The GP I spoke to during my phone consultation said I could go in the morning without mentioning any closing hours, the website does not mention whatsoever any closing hours between 1pm and 2pm (in fact, it clearly states that opening hours are 8:30-18:00), the landline does not state that the surgery is closed between those times (in fact it actually mentions that “the surgery is open for urgent care ONLY between 1 to 2 pm" and there is no option to speak directly to staff). I followed every information available to the public and reached the location of the surgery at a time that best suited the clinic, spending over 20£ on transport to get there in time and sacrificing my entire lunch break to make sure I would get there during open hours despite my work commitments. Once I got there, there was a home-printed sign stuck with duck tape on at the entrance saying that the surgery was closed between 1pm and 2pm. As people were clearly there, I tried to politely ask for information. Said receptionist, Natasha, didn’t even let me speak, she just rudely turned me away with no explanation, kindness, empathy or even basic human decency whatsoever, and she slammed the door as she went back into the break room. Regardless of her poor manners, I still politely thanked and quietly left. I waited in the parking lot as I was trying to work out when I could go back between opening hours to collect my prescription. However, I realised that I would not be able to go back at another time and I needed my prescription urgently. At that point I just wanted to ask what the options were, and ask if they could fax my prescription to a pharmacy (which they have done before) with more flexible open hours that would allow me to collect it within my availability. While I was waiting, I tried to find alternative ways to communicate with the surgery but as I said they number on their website leads you straight to a pre-recorded voicemail, so I went back in hoping to being able to reason with someone or at least receive any sort of humane support. After I wanted in silence for 10 minutes, the same receptionist came out of the break room and started speaking to me loudly from across the room, extremely rudely, telling me once again to leave. As I tried to explain my situation and mention the incongruence between the opening hours mentioned on the website/social medias/phone line/the sign that was put up, she refused to listen and did not let me speak, and instead spoke on top of me for the entire time. As a result for this behaviour I mentioned that I was intention to report her for patient neglect and for her overall manners, so as a response then accused me of shouting (even though she was the one who was speaking loudly from across the room and slamming doors, meanwhile I was speaking with the same tone as she was and solely in the attempt to communicate with her). This entire inconvenience took 30 minutes. She then proceeded out of the blue to give me my prescription, which took approximately 30 seconds. If she had been understanding and polite, the entire situation could have been solved by 1:05pm - two minutes after I arrived at the surgery. Instead, I left at 1:35, extremely distressed and in literal tears and got a migraine as a result of the stressed caused me by this interaction. My parents are both doctors and I am well aware of the stress that dealing with patients entails, I am a polite individual and not one to argue, be unreasonable, let alone shout at an healthcare professional, so in addition to her behaviour being unfortunate, her accusation also aggravated the situation. Never in my life have I been treated in such a rude, aggressive, unreasonable and unprofessional way by a professional. She put the name of the surgery and the entire NHS that she represented in that circumstance to shame.

Horrible GP office. Staff are rude and dismissive for any issue, regardless of how severe. Multiple times prescriptions have been supposedly sent by the surgery and are not at the boots where they say they’ve been sent. A level of unprofessionalism unacceptable considering the issues they’re dealing with. Would not recommend to anyone looking for a GP that will help them with any issue of any magnitude. I would advise you to look elsewhere as it honestly feels like there could not possibly be a worse surgery you could choose. Chronically understaffed and the staff that work there are reluctant to help at the best of times.

Turned up at 10:30ish receptionist managed to squeeze me in on the day for 2:30. Turned up early and as I was waiting some guy turned up super late completely missed his appointment and was rlly rude to the receptionist… for his own mistake 🤷‍♂️ sucks they have to deal with that but handled it best they could. The Doctor I saw Scott was super friendly, knows his stuff and I got my prescription no problem!👍

Often rude, condescending service from both receptionists and GPs. Been struggling with various issues and have to phone everyday at 8:30am, just to be told there are no appointments, or it's emergency only, and to call back the next day. It gets tiring... just to receive a 5 minute phone call as an "appointment" which doesn't actually address my issues at all. I'll be changing GPs asap.

I called twice about an extremely sore throat (along with other symptoms) and both times the clinician dismissed me and wouldn’t even book me for an appointment. Told me to just take painkillers. Said it was probably just a virus without even examining me. I wasn’t convinced so I went to a pharmacy and paid for a test, turns out I have strep. Untreated strep can be dangerous, I’m very unhappy with how dismissive and condescending the clinicians here are! Wouldn’t have been that hard to give me a test, even if it was just be on the safe side. I’m glad I didn’t listen to them!

It is so, so inane to insist that every sick student has to wake up and scrabble for the phone at 8:30 exactly, for days on end, to get treatment (for some pretty serious stuff). I'm seriously worried about my health and I just cannot get through to these people. There must be hundreds of numbers on the line immediately after they open, every single day. Obviously that's a stressful job. According to these reviews, the medical practice has been liaising with the health board to change this for YEARS. Why is it still so unimaginably bad? I'd honestly rather re-register with my GP at home and take a bus for hours than continue with these guys

The reception was terrible. I have a fungal infection in my mouth. But I didn't know that myself. I described my symptoms to a woman. She told me to go straight to the pharmacy. But my symptoms were so severe that the pharmacist said I needed to see a doctor. The lady rolled her eyes at me. She said she would call back. I waited a week without getting a call. I got sicker this week and had to make another appointment. The next week a man made an appointment for me. But by then I was very sick. The doctor was fine, but we didn't meet, just a phone call. I couldn't describe many of the symptoms myself, and eventually I had to seek help from a dentist.

Appalling medical practice. I registered with them before the semester started and could not book any appointments (only same day appointments if I called right on 8:30am each day; they have no future appointment system which is disgraceful). Today, I really needed to see someone and they claimed to have no record of me - due to a clerical error, they put in my wrong date of birth. In order to be get medical attention possibly tomorrow, I was asked to re-register because I had changed medical practice a few weeks ago (due to sheer desperation), AND then to CALL BACK TOMORROW. If you are reading this, please don't waste your time (and your wellbeing) attempting to get medical care from this place.

If you are a student needing a GP avoid this surgery. If you take medication or have other pre-existing conditions AVOID this surgery. The staff and GPs themselves are usually nice and friendly, but the surgery itself is extremely oversubscribed and they don’t take anyone seriously. Refused to provide me with medication on more than one occasion, took over THREE MONTHS to provide me with a letter stating that I have long-term diagnosed conditions, delaying the process for me to receive Disability Support from the University, then incorrectly stated in the letter that my conditions had only started Sept 2021. I requested an MRI or a head scan for my condition, the GP said I didn’t need one so I pressed for one and got told “fine, I guess I can refer you for a CT scan but I doubt anything will come of it” (turns out i have a brain malformation, lol). I would recommend ANY other GP in the area: Radnor Street Surgery, Sandyford Surgery, Abingdon Medical Practice. This surgery is a joke.

GP services in all UK nations get a bad rep. Plenty of reviews here seem to support that. I've been registered with Barclay for many years, as a student, and now graduate living locally. Receptionists are not always as curious as they should be. But I stay here because you can get same day appointments (when you actually book in the morning); because I could get an emergency same day appointment when having some really bad symptoms a few years ago (they sent me to the hospital and right that they did); and most recently they helped when I didn't get my Coronavirus vaccination invitation when I was supposed to (and it was resolved). This is a good GP surgery. Often you have to help them to help you though - so remember that before you complain. Very grateful for our NHS.

I’ve been helped by the practice multiple times now from mental, physical, and medical help. I’ve felt reassured and listened to each visit and given help that’s helped me heal and improve my issues. I’ve rarely had issues getting an appointment, and when it was urgent they found ways to see me.

Somehow has never been open once when I needed to make an appointment. The appointment system is convoluted and very opaque. Staff are very lovely and professional but at the end of the day I cannot recommend this practice.

People call to make an appointment because they need to know when to take a day off! I don’t get it why it is so important for the clinic to book appointment at 8am on the day!

I am slightly surprised to have seen all these bad reviews, I had a great experience with them. They didn't pick up too quickly when I called this morning, but they have been excellent and professional. Dr. Rex was a doll, as was the receptionist (whose name I did not pick up). The Maryhill branch was rude and unhelpful, Dr. Rex is helping get me an emergency dose of my medications. Thank you!

this gp practice needs more staff!!! there are so many patients and not nearly enough staff, it is so hard to get appointments and prescriptions come slowly. it also feels like as the staff workload is so high, appointments feel rushed and don’t result in proper conclusions to any issue. i feel bad for the staff they are run into the ground !

It's a really busy place, but if you call in during the morning, usually you get a call back quite quickly. If needed you will be called in for an in person exam. The doctors have always been very friendly and took the time to discuss my issues, and usually found a solution. The front desk staff seems overworked sometimes, but with the new caller queue, calling in will be less of a hassle. I was also provided a quick referral to an expert for diagnosis, unfortunately they had a 2-year wait for all NHS patients due to underfunding.

Awesome, GP deal with my problem immediately! I tired to book university Counselling & Psychological Service months ago, and they cancel my appointment. so I phoned GP and I said I might have depression symptoms for a long time and I think taking to Psychologist might help. and GP didn’t ask my symptoms, because the time I phoned them is the exam month, so it’s very reasonable for them to not ask my symptoms and said I don’t have depression it’s called LIFE, stress is normal. Problem solved. Thank you.

I had an excellent experience with the University branch of this GP practice. No problems getting an appointment after getting through on the phone. Everyone was friendly and very professional from the reception staff to the clinician I spoke to. Thank you to everyone who works there.

i never ever write reviews because I love to give the benefit of the doubt - but this is genuinely the worst medical care I have been given. I understand they are a university practice so deal with all sorts of issues for young people but I unfortunately have chronic utis and they love to dismiss it. Initially to even diagnose that I had this issue, I was in and out of the practice a lot of times as I have having utis that lasted up to 3 months at times. I was told this was the nature of utis and that we had to keep trying different antibiotics. This is fine, at least they were doing something. But it was the treatment I received whilst constantly dealing with this. The reception staff are undeniably the most unhelpful people there. I was told to phone up every time I had my first symptoms again because the most important part of trying to stop these symptoms were getting the antibiotics in early. However, the reception staff hadn’t been told this / didn’t really care so I was met with defensiveness every time I tried to tell them this. Finally when I did speak to a nurse practitioner / doctor, the care was inconsistent. Each time it would be a different approach, either trying to explain to me what was happening or completely ignoring my concerns. One time she told me nothing was happening, there could be no uti (after I had explained all of my symptoms to her and how annoying they are, paired with my history of literally chronic utis) she was extremely happy for me to just leave. To which I went there the next day with a urine sample to have tested (off of my own back- she hadn’t requested it) and funnily enough I had an infection! That was an example of a the kind of care received, I believe the majority of the time I am speaking to them I am convincing them something is wrong. As a patient here, especially in the case of a urine infection I was pleading with them to do something, refer me to the hospital / just try different antibiotics. Finally I went to the hospital to get scans etc and the end result was that I had to live with it etc but to get antiobiotics straight into me. The hospital even gave me masses of urine sample bottles. Finally I phoned up the Barclay as the start of a new uti and was met again with the rudest reception staff who said I needed to phone at 8 tomorrow. It’s tiring trying to force them to listen to you and explain why the phone call needs to be today. Her answer was, can’t guarantee anything from the doctor but I’ll ask. Aswell as getting obviously annoyed through her tone. Therefore, if you struggle with anything that isn’t a simple issue I’d genuinely transfer or avoid joining here. You don’t want to be left in a position, like me, where I was made to feel crazy about something that they should have been helping with the whole time.
