Cool spot where a volcano sunk into the earth! Very calm and serene atmosphere. Water was a nice warmth in mid June. Great views from up top. We walked down the stairs; 139 in total with inclines in between as well. Great pictures halfway down the stairs where you get a balcony type view. At the bottom there were cool/unique views. It was worth the trip.

This was a lovely little stop just off the road. We were there on a beautiful, sunny day and it wasn’t nearly as crowded as the waterfalls in the area. My husband and I walked around the rim at the top and around the lake at the bottom. If you have to choose, I would do the rim walk as it gives better views and the colors can look different depending on where the lighting is. You do have to pay to see it, although it is not a lot.

We were on the way south and visited this crater on the way. And turned out to be a lot bigger, nicer and more interesting than expected. 450 KR pp to leave your car and to enter the crater area. A fair price. A trail leads around the whole crater. It's pretty easy to manage on dry days and definitely the thing to do to get and appreciate all the views of the crater. The crater is is a mere 6,500 years old – making it one of the three most recognizable volcanic craters in Iceland. The caldera is approximately 55 m deep, 170 m wide, and 270 m across, and is made up of a unique red volcanic rock. After completing the short, but wonderful roundtrip you also can head down to the bottom, where the small lake formed itself. It's mostly stairs and just a few minutes down. But definitely another must-do. We really enjoyed our stay here. Lots of nice views and pics. It had some visitors, but nothing like at the major attractions. For me definitely a must-see when in Iceland.

The Keri’s crater is a collapsed volcano. It is quite beautiful and worth the hike down. It has numerous attractive plants flowers and vegetation to see at all levels. Pro-tip west hiking boots the path can be slippery. Try to take photos from all angles.

Absolutely amazing crater. The water is a pretty green color, and you can walk down and walk around or stay above and walk around. I recommend making the trip to go down. You can see the beautiful water color. It's 500 isks per person to see it.

Amazing piece of mother nature’s creation. This crater has such outstanding surroundings and landscape. Very easy to climb to the top, and to talk to the bottom. There’s a walkway going around the lake. Few nice platforms created to take pictures. The soil around the crater has mix colors, mostly are red. The water in the lake is clear. It takes about ~30 minutes to 1 hour to finish the site. Tickets are 450 ISK per person, over 12 years of age. Parking lot is free and has decent number of spaces.

Wonderful experience! You can walk along the the top or take take the stairs down to the lake itself. About 20 minutes to do the whole experience. Parking is free but there is a small entrance fee of 500isk ($3.65). We thought it was beautiful even in the winter and definitely worth the visit.

Great place and a must to visit. I would not suggest going when snow covered as you'd miss the.amazing colours of the surrounding rock. All that's missing is a toilet for comfort relief.

Beautiful crater with a short hike around it. There seems yo be more trails to walk if you'd like. No bathrooms or other facilities. I am giving it 4 stars because I am comparing it to Crater Lake in Oregon which is a 5 star hike with absolutely gorgeous views.

Cool place but winter isn't the time to visit as the colors are masked by snow. It was a nice stop to break up our day so I would certainly recommend it if you are in the area.

Very cold when we went (November), but so worth it - the walk up helped with keeping us warm. Beautiful views!! Would recommend some good shoes if doing this in snow!

This is a beautiful landmark and a must-see if you're passing it. It was a lovely place to visit. It would've been nicer to have more time to walk around the Crater but as we were on a tour we were time contricted and so only had a chance to go down to the lake.

We got denied on our 1st attempt due to road construction but was able to return a couple days later. Was sunny round 1 and then a storm blew through and frozen the lake and powdered the parameter. Still glad we got to experience it.

Pretty must stop as you are driving around the Golden Triangle. Easy to walk the upper rim, or venture down the steps to the path around the lake. Trail is marked for you and there are wooden steps in case it is rainy. Plenty of free parking right beside the venue. No need to buy tickets in advance and they take a credit card.

A volcanic crater with easy access (just beside the road). You need to get tickets to enter and you can walk around and all the way down to the middle of the crater. When we visited, during the winter, water was frozen and we could stand on it (but be very careful). We could also hear our voices echoing there 😅 Overall a worthy visit and we enjoyed it.

It was beautiful, a lot of colour and was majestic. You can hike around a few craters but only the one had water at the bottom. $4 to enter, free parking. Privately owned

Nice place to stop. 400 isk per person. You can count ~30mn if you want to walk around, make it 40 if you take your time and walk down to the lake. If it's sunny, might be nice to bring a sandwich over, there are a few places where you can sit with a nice view.

Can't believe earth has volcanos and craters like this to enjoy safely! We went in December and it's frozen and the trail around the crater is very icy! Crampons recommend although we did see people manage in normal hiking shoes but it looked scary!

Stunning and interesting geological wonder. Lovely to walk around the tip and inside crater. Beautiful red stone around it and green water inside. Unfortunately weather wasn't great on my trip but still had a great time.

Great geological feature. Visited in winter time so very different to summer viewing. Small charge but well worth it can walk all around the rim of the crater and venture down if you so wish to the edge of the lake.

Bummer on the entrance fee. Kinda seemed just unnecessary. But it was a cool thing to see. Impressive and very beautiful. If I was back in Iceland, I would skip it unlike a few of the other things we were able to do on this trip. It was cool walking down to the water. But yea kinda crowded and the fee seemed unnecessary

A part of Iceland's natural volcanic areas. A beautiful spot to walk around and take in some amazing views. In the snow season it is obviously cold, but more importantly slippery in places and always when you least expect it! We went with a tour group, again, advisable in winter as driving in snow and ice is a skill to be mastered. Very enjoyable experience

Absolutely stunning place. Quick walk to the pool, and an option to walk around the crater rim! And we even had the fortune of a rainbow over the site after a day of rain! A place to visit just for the ambience.

A beautiful crater that is one of the destinations during my Golden Circle Tour in Iceland. I did the tour during the end of February or the beginning of March so it is too partially frozen. You may walk around the crater on the top to have a look at it from different directions, you may also go down the steps to get right next to the crater. It is beautiful seeing it partially frozen but also wondering how It looks like when it is bringing the summer with the green surrounding

Impressive, a must see in Iceland. If it’s on a sunny day like when I was there even better as the color of the water is amazing. Parking in the area and a nice walk round the crater is possible and recommended

We spent a very pleasant couple of hours walking the rim and then the base dipping our toes in the lake to cool off on a beautiful (rare) Icelandic day. There are stunning views whichever way you look. I’ve visited summer and previously in the winter and loved it on both occasions. There is a small charge for adults to enter but it’s very good value and cheaper than a coffee.

It was a stunning natural attraction. Great weather makes the color comes out more vividly. Two options to choose either walk around the crater lake to observe the panoramic view or go down to the lake side and enjoy it closely. Maybe more protection to this nature site by prohibiting people swim in the lake.

I am sure that the pictures not make justice to the beautiful scenery. The Crater was frozen when we visited it, and give to us another wonderful scenery to see in Iceland, there's a parking lot available, you can walk to the bottom (there are stairs) and up is safe to walk to, just be careful with the path as there are loose stones that can make us slip.

Simply breathtaking as the winter sun rose above the rim of the crater. Cold, windy, amazing and a walk around the lake in the crater. Many tours take you hear but try to do a small group tour to give you more time here

Really neat place. Day we went was overcast and very windy. Did not hike around rim or down to lake level. Note that there is Admission fee. Parking is free. There is also a new parking lot next to the existing one that has a lot more space. Great place to visit with a neat history.

At about £2.50 per adult (over 12 years), its well worth the fee to be able to walk around the top of the crater, and then descend the steps to the water's edge and be able to walk round there too. We got there about 16:00 which was a bit on the late side as the sun was too low to reach the water. Visiting around noon would be a perfect time to appreciate the colours and reflections

Easily accessible from the road. For a small entrance fee an easy climb affords you amazing views of the crater and surrounding area. Walk around the rim towards the entrance and if you’re lucky enough to be able to sit on the two seater bench at the water’s edge, take a few moments absorb the beauty of the location.

Amazing Views and Photo Opportunities! Can get VERY VERY windy so bear that in mind! Well worth the effort to visit.

There isn’t a part of Iceland that isn’t amazing but this is just like every other place, you have to see it with your eyes it’s so amazing to see pictures don’t do it justice! I think it was a few ££s to end yer so doesn’t break the bank, you could happily spend an hour there walking around the top and then down and around inside near the water.

It's a cool place to visit. And the little walk down and around is nice. I didn't mind paying for entrance, because I see what they do with maintenance of the trail and so on.

Why is this called an eye of the earth you will understand seeing it through your own eyes. Definitly worth a visit, even the fee of 400. Plan some 40-60 minutes.

Absolutely fantastic place to visit on the Golden Circle tour. Absolutely stunning views of the caldera and the surrounding countryside. The red colour on the rocks comes from the iron deposits in the area and the lake is from groundwater rising up rather than collected rainfall. 450ISK to enter if not part of a tour. (Oct 2023)
