They are crooks. I had rented a car from 4pm and arrived 30min early. I proposed to wait until 4pm but the employee told me it was no issue as long as I would return the car the next day by 4pm. I returned the car the next day at 3:43pm and was charged for 2 days. The company never answered my emails and even faked documentation when I tried to do a charge back from my credit card company. I am an Avis Preferred but the Tenerife office did not care. The car was also not good, it was very sluggish on mountain roads, which I mentioned upon return only to be told « yes this is normal ». Updated March 2022: ultimately my credit card company could not get justification from them and agreed with charge back, so I have been refunded for the day taken unduly. Social media team was not helpful at any time and asked me to withdraw the charge back request in order to solve the problem!

Not close to the Terminal, everything else has been good to us. The most important tip is know where to catch the bus to collection center. As you come out of Arrival, turn left towards Departure and there will be a number of bus lanes. You have to catch a bus from Parking # 2, just outside Departures. The bus is easy to spot with Avis and Budget written on it. Fast check in, delivery of car. Return was quick and easy. No fuss

Everyone knows to be careful with car rental company’s. So we BOOKED via Booking.com for €568.56 small car, fully insured. Was NO offer but a booking. Confirmation from Avis at once. So things were settled and the amount was reserved on our creditcard. But after a while we got an offer because car wasn’t available. Offer €682,72 without insurance. Really bad offer and service because fully insured would even be more. We sent an email but of course NO Reaction from Avis. And now comes the best joke ever. We booked at the airport at EuropeCar for € 492,- all in fully insured with ZERO own risk. Arranged in 5 minutes at the desk and we got a brand new Renault Clio with 500km on the counter. We promise we never book a car at Avis again, and you should be ashamed to treat customers like this. Your predictable reaction will be that we should email. And no we will not email Avis again! In reaction on the response of Avis: @david, we did “fancy email” you but you didn’t react on the moment we had a problem, not even in the days after. Now that we publish your servicelevel you want to email so that we can discuss the matter? No thanks. Ps: we got our invoice of EuropeCar and the total of 8 days was: €492,11 for 8 days in a brand new car fully insured.

Actual rental cars are not at the airport but about 10 minutes ride with their "shuttle" bus. We had to wait 30 Minutes for the driver of shuttle bus to turn up. Even though the bus was already there. Apart from this everything else went smooth. Even with ~15 customers, they had 4 counters and quick processing. Return was also smooth.

Be careful ! The Avis desk is NOT at the airport. You have to take a shuttle with no sign at all that indicates where it is! We ended up finding the shuttle parking spot by going through the departures hall and going straight to parking #8 outside. There we found the Avis budget shuttle 🥵

If you do not book directly with Avis you will never find where to collect the car which is in fact 10 minutes drive by bus from the airport (depending how slow the driver drives of course)! Eventually we found the place after my husband (who luckily speaks Spanish) asked someone and informed us that usually there is an Avis person located by number 6! How are we supposed to know as it's nowhere to be found? Even the confirmation email doesn't say the location! Anyways took a while before we reached the Avis Office and once there the staff is extremely rude and careless! They allocated us a very old, dirty and smelly car (Golf) full of scratches and they didn't even want to change it after I complaint! The lady had to check herself the accuracy of my statements! She said the car was no smelly when it smelled like 1000 cigarettes were smoked inside! Eventually we persuaded her and she gave us a smaller less powerful car, at this point I didn't care all I wanted was to leave that place with a car I could be in for 4 days without feeling sick! The wipers were even not working! Upon our return I used the toilet in the office and no toilet paper in the ladies so I told the lady at front desk so that maybe next person would not experience the same and the lady could not care the less and gave me an awful look. Finally, we asked the lady how long before the next bus would take and she said 15minutes. We waited over 25 minutes for the bus to come to take us to the airport so if you are reading this and you still decide to rent a car with them, be prepared to wait outside for long time and give yourself plenty of time between returning your car and your flight. BTW we were at the bus stop at 15:35 and finally the bus departed at 16:12!! Awful service! I will never rent a car from them!

READ THIS BEFORE YOU BOOK ANYTHING WITH THEM. I had a great experience with Tenerife, local people and culture but Avis Tenerife managed to spoil the end of my holidays. AS AN AVIS PREFERED PLUS PRESIDENT CLUB CUSTOMER (meaning more than 10 rentals and > 2000€ / year) I am used to rent at Avis accross Europe but I ve never experienced anything like this before, so I let you imagine how they may scam other customers... I don't mention all the comments about the location and behaviour some may have experienced but to make a long story short: 1) I booked a car with a category that normally should allow an SUV or Automatic because with this level this is what you usually get with the Avis Prefered Plus President level, I even called them to mention it and try to make sure it happens but when I arrrived I was given a berlin (Honda Civic) and the person said "we give you a brand new car", Ok that's great but not the best for mountain and offroad driving I needed. Basically apart from the ready to pick service you do not benefit of any usual advantages of the President Club level (At least 1 category upgrade and usually 2 category upgrade). Not compliant, but I can live with it... 2) To make sure eveything goes well and hassle free, I prebooked and Prepaid online before arrival and included the Highest Cover Level "Super Cover Plus" which includes all possible damage and assistance fees, all prepaid online. Fortunately nothing happened and I brought back the car in perfect condition which was aknowledge by the agency, with full tank and receipts. At this point you would never expect them to charge any possible fee as everything was on maximum cover. What happened next is mindblowing!! : They dared to charge me fees for what they called a Road Side Assistance which I have never called and even if I did, this is included within the SUPER COVER PLUS, a totally imaginary situation they created. SO I made a claim to understand these fees and it seems like they added it on the paper contract without mentionning anything while I already paid for it in my booking previously. They try to charge me some hidden fees in ways that can not work or tried to charge me the agency prices instead of the online price in a sneaky way!! INCROYABLE as we French say! Moreover, they insist on it and refuse to reimburse this money. I am thinking, I am a customer with the highest loyalty scheme level and this is the way they treat me!!! I just can't imagine how they treat all the other customers. These people are either Crooks, incompetents or worse, Both! Still waiting for an explanation about this issue. In case anyone from AVIS Wonder about this case, this is the booking number 0381-0314-FR-4. There are plenty of other rentals with nicer cars and more professional staff, even if you are an Avis Preferred Customer, you will not have the service standards for what you pay here. Me and my friend have rented in over 20 different Avis agencies accross Europe and this is the first time I see such a thing (with the Corfu Agency case which is another story). 11/06/21: Eventually Thanks to Joszef from customer service and the customer care team who corrected this mistakes after several email exchanges, it's a pity to have to experience this kind of things and waste time on that, everyhting else was smooth but one small detail like that can make the customer feel like taken for a fool. All the best hope it doesn't happen again

Shuttle bus works well. You actually win time on the way home because you are dropped right in front departure terminal. This is my second time with Avis in the new location. I got again the exact car I had booked. The well equipped car was in perfect shape with little mileage. Tire pressure ok, washer fluid ok... Windows cleaned from the inside. Bravo top service at a competitive price.

Was first very sceptical about booking with Budget after reading all the negative reviews, but unfortunately all the other car rental companies were sold out. So we made a booking at Budget only 1 day before. Very good overall experience. Employees advised to take videos and photos of the car upon pickup and to keep them until our credit card is charged. Which we did. We didn't experience any problems - no hidden damages. We payed exactly what was agreed. Car pickup and return were very quick. Big parking, Los of cars. Office building is completely new and has a big bathroom (easy to go in with suitcases) We booked VW Golf but got C3. Car itself was new and very very clean, only few cosmetic scratches here and there. Very economic, we drove quite a lot but only tanked once when returning it. Only 2 minus points - as others mention there were completely no signs or any information where to pick up car. No info in the confirmation emails, no info on the website, no info at the airport. Only after many calls to various Budget/Avis numbers some car mechanic advised us to ask airport security. Which finally could let us know that there is a special bus to/from Avis/Budget location few km away. At Tenerife South airport go to the left side, at bus stop #6 frequently comes a special bus. If you miss one, next one will come in ~10min. You can take the same bus back to the airport after your trip. It's free. Also book a bigger engine than 1.2, sometimes on steeper roads it had difficulty to get up.

As others have said, absolutely no signage as to the location of the Avis office, so we spent ages wandering around trying to find someone, eventually a Tui rep pointed us to bus stop 6 where we found a very nice lady with a small clipboard who got us onto the shuttle bus. Once we arrived there was one woman on the desk, so it took us another 40 minutes to get the car. If we’d known how far away the office was, we would have gone with another company. Not a great way to start a holiday.

We rented a car to go stargazing in Teide reserve park, in Tenerife. UK drivers currently should be aware that you do NOT NEED the international driving permit, but you soon will, so watch out! Some rental places have offices in the South airport, Avis/Budget didn't. You get a shuttle bus every ten minutes from the number 6 rank outside, to the other side of the TF1 motorway, in Casablanca (there is a BP petrol station here). The car pool is there. You can ask for help at unit 2 in the airport if you're confused about this. The actual office, car park and mechanisms worked well. We were given a manual C3 Citroen with barely enough power to make it more than a few 200m inland (despite ordering a Toyota), as Tenerife is a volcano island with immediate incline! Considering we told them what we were doing, I'm shocked they rented us an inadequate car. This made the uphill section of our driving very stressful and embarrassing. Upon return, we mentioned the trouble barely able to leave 2nd gear and the lady nodded and said 'of course, it's a C3'. Well, thanks 🙄 Please check where you are going will have enough parking. Much of the island has parking, but it's filled on the streets. Unless you have reserved space or there's a decent car park where you're going (many are underground beneath buildings) then you may end up unable to park anywhere close to where you're going. Those underground are not for the faint of heart either; sharp slopes and bends, plus very low entrances barely the height of the vehicle. I'd recommend using the TITSA buses as much as you can, 10 euro a day to go anywhere with an app scanning QR codes on and off buses. If you do hire, ensure your car can handle the elevation if you drive anywhere inland, check you can park where you're going and don't make this an unconfident drivers first experience of that side of the road/left hand drive etc.

Good car. But the depot is a 10 min bus ride from the terminal. There are no signs or directions to find the bus. Head for bus bay 6 and get the bus. It seems to run once an hour. So make sure you build that time in on your return

  • 4/5 Gordon S. 1 year ago on Google
Not a great start having to wait for a bus to a rental depot off site but it is what it is. Prompt staff, status upgrade given (although is a Skoda an upgrade from a Golf? 😉). Pre checks not done so exterior scratch and internal seat cigarette burn not logged meant back to the agent ). Apart from that, all good

I was afraid because of all the bad reviews but everything worked out with us. Shuttle bus was there to take us back to the airport at the drop off almost immediately, i’m not sure if we got lucky or if they have a bus regularly.

  • 4/5 Dmitry K. 1 year ago on Google
Everything is ok. Fast check in and check out. Good service. The biggest problem to understand how to get there from airport. It was not obvious and other bus driver helped us. There is platform A6 from which going shuttle to the Avis office and back (takes around 5min)

  • 2/5 Arvis Z. 1 year ago on Google
Unfortunately nothing good to say about the whole experience: 1) its not located in the airport - you have to go by shuttle bus. You should count 45min-1h30h to get a car. 2) when the shittle bus arrives, of course the queue of people forms quickly. ☝🏼 though, the service (people working there) was good. In general it doesn’t feel like AVIS-level experience. More like I booked the cheapest car rental car. I’ll feel bad about posting such a feedback, but price-performance is bad.

  • 3/5 Ali N. 1 year ago on Google
My experience with this car rental company was generally positive, but the location of the pick-up and drop-off point was not ideal. Getting there was difficult as it was hard to find transportation options. If you're coming from another part of the island or not the airport, the car rental company's shuttle service only runs between the airport and their parking, making it difficult to find other transportation options. Additionally, if you choose to take public transportation, you must walk on a road without a sidewalk to get there. Despite the location, the staff were nice and helpful. The pick-up and drop-off service for the car rental was very easy to use.

  • 3/5 Benjamin P. 1 year ago on Google
Would not prefer this for the next time. First of all the location is away from the airport which means that you need to find the shuttle bus which takes time. After a long flight every extra hour spent to get the car is not something you want. The service was not the best. It was slow and felt like everything is not under control. I had made the booking before hand trough my travel agency but they did not seem to find it on the computer. After a while it somehow appeared. The same seemed to happen to others as well. The car was ok but not sure if there was something with the ignition cause the engine was a bit shaking. Returning the car was smooth but again one has to reserve some extra time for waiting the shuttle bus. I'd go with other rental company that is actually next to the airport.

I am an AVIS PREFERRED PLUS customer. I did not have any time to wait and they even gave me a bigger car. The car was new with only 2500 km. This was a great experience to explore Teneriffa. -1 Star because of the transfer to Airport

  • 1/5 Damian H. 2 years ago on Google
Beware - this is an Avis/Budget franchise and the service and vehicles are all truly lacking. Rude staff and semi fly not in any way seeking to comply with the usual Avis standards. Also, busses never turned up at airport to we, and many others, had to get Taxi’s. We tried to call when at the airport but there is no way to talk to anyone, just a voice note and then you can reach central Avis bookings - but not the site here. Avis - if you read this - remove the franchise from these clowns - ruining your brands reputation. And this is from a seasoned, long term, Avis preferred customer.

  • 1/5 Claudio N. 1 year ago on Google
Unexpected charges and a final amount to pay 25% higher than the amount showed in the booking without any sustainable explanation. No answers from customer service to the email with the lists of charges expected looking at the booking recipt.

  • 2/5 Alain B. 1 year ago on Google
Personal is friendly and helpful. But when you are at the airport, there is no sign of Avis' presence. By asking around, you find out that Avis is far away from the airport and you have to take a shuttle bus. There is no sign anywhere as to where this bus is supposed to pick you up. We lost one hour due to poor communication from Avis.

Please..do not rent a car from this company They change the pick up hours without asking ! They are diffucult to reach by Phone! They literally messed up our day ! We couldn´t cancel the car either because then we would have lost our money !!! Trust me..it´s a terrible company !!! The worst thing is...they even delivered the car late! Even later than the changed hour !! This company is a disaster !!! Don´t believe the good reviews...probably these are from the people who work there !!!!!.

We arrive to Tenerife south airport and spent an hour finding a way how to get to the rental plaice as it is not located at the airport. There was not a single sign or anything mentioning Avis, emails from Avis did not provide any information how to get there. From random people at the airport we managed to get information that a but would take there but nobody knew where it goes from (there is 107 bus stops at the airport) I called Avis directly and was redirected to Madrid call centre. The help line told me that they have no idea how to get to the Avis rental or where the bus should be going from. We ended up taking taxi. After arriving to the Avis rental centre via taxi we spent 40 minutes in a queue as it was understaffed. The whole experience was very frustrating also the car had not full fuel tank but the rental papers said it is full. By that point we could not be asked to deal with Avis anymore as we already reached maximum level of bearable frustration, So far very unpleasant experience with how our holiday begun thanks to Avis. When we were returning the car, there was queue once more. after passing the keys the staff requested to wait until they check the car. 20 minutes later I asked the staff how much longer they need us to wait. They said they don't need us anymore. Basically they said wait and didn't say that all is fine or anything. We had to be seeking out the information. Getting the bus back to the airport took nearly an hour, no taxis around to take and all in all, if our plane was not delayed we would miss our flight. This was the worst experience with a car rental in my life.

Very nice cars and prices. Customer service is nice as well. Have took a VW Golf 1.0 TFSI 2018 year for 3 days for 79 £. Nice car with everything working good. The main weak point is that you have to return and pick up the car from their office near the airport(Tenerife south). Anyway there is a transfer to and from airport.

  • 1/5 Pat E. 1 year ago on Google
I payed 170€ for 1,5 days. Crazy amount. In booking it appeared with 66€ and I thought that this would be the price to pay. Next time I am not going to book anymore a car there.

  • 1/5 Rik L. 3 years ago on Google
Terrible experience. Stay away if you can. Rented a car and got charged for damage that was already on the car. During the registration there was no mention of any existing damage but Avis claims We signed off on the damage report. Car was then pulled up by an Avis employee in front of the office with the engine running and door open asking me to get in directly. No inspection or calling out of any damage. Once I returned the car the same day, they immediately charged me for the damage. Called their customer service but all they do is mention you signed the T&Cs which apparently mentions any prior damage. It’s a scam. Rented from Autoreisen after that and had a perfect experience. Highly recommend them and never rent from Avis on Tenerife.

Smooth rental experience, quick check-in and return. One fewer star as this isn't located within the airport, you need a shuttle. I may have been lucky and the shuttle was available within 5 minutes in both directions but it still isn't very convenient; all other car rentals appear to be in the terminal itself.

  • 4/5 Alan M. 2 years ago on Google
The car and service were great, and a transfer time from the terminal is probably comparable to waiting in line for the in-terminal rentals. However, €2,000+ default excess on a compact car is quite ridiculous - almost like having no insurance at all. And obviously, it's hidden deeply in small print on the web when booking.

  • 3/5 July S. 2 years ago on Google
Their office is not in the airport in Tenerife south, they come and pick you up. I had to go myself because i waited more than an hour for them. Price on internet was without insurance, even though there was written that it's all included. Car was in good shape, can't complain about it. They first charged me 12 e more. Had to write an e-mail. Didn't get an answer, but they changed the amount charged to the correct one, so i suppose they read it. Staff at Tenerife North was nicer and their office is in the airport.
