Staff were so friendly and helpful. Rooms were immaculately clean with amenities I don't see at other hotels. Great night of sleep: beds were so comfortable, and even though we were right by the elevator hallway, there was no noise disturbance. Walking distance to The Intersection, tons of food options, kids' museum, and many other places of interest. Walking from the parking structure to hotel was awkward due to construction, but the extra I paid for the Park & Stay rate more than paid for itself. Would like to see more vegan options in the cafe, but they do have non-dairy creamers. Would definitely stay here again.

Amazing hotel! The staff is beyond friendly and the rooms were amazingly clean. This location was very centrally located for our visit which was wonderful. It is within walking distance to many popular attractions in Grand Rapids and was right around the corner from our concert venue (The intersection.) I would gladly stay here anytime I visit Grand Rapids. The parking was a bit weird to find and then get into the hotel but that was manageable and I think if we would have thought about our location it would have been easier to find parking. They have an amazing breakfast sandwich which was a great way to start our day.

I was sent to this hotel for a work training. The accommodations were so nice. The hotel is nearly brand new, it’s got a great vibe and all the staff are so helpful and friendly. The restaurant is great and the roof top bar was a lot of fun. The location is perfect for walking to all the downtown establishments and events. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

After 4 nights in a faded glory, traditional old hotel in Chicago, coming to the GR Downtown Canopy was like a breath of fresh air for us two Brits visiting from London. We knew we had made a good decision the moment we walked in. As seniors we are probably older than the demographic that Hilton is aiming for with the Canopy concept, but it certainly works for us. All the staff are friendly and super helpful and the room was light, clean and modern. The technology features are just on the right side of not being over-the-top. We enjoyed both the breakfast room (Portico) and the rooftop bar which was great for evening snacks and drinks. The restaurant 123 right next door was also very convenient. Were there some minor niggles? Yes, of course. That's life. But after 5 nights we were sad to leave what had become our temporary home in GR. If you're planning to stay in GR, give this hotel a chance. You'll be pleased you did.

This is my third time staying at Canopy and every time is better than the first. This stay was particularly great. The staff was extremely welcoming and several staff members went above and beyond to assist me with some complicated (complicated on account of a unique situation -- in other words, it was not them, it was me) tasks. The location is fabulous -- right next to Midtown (fabulous music venue), and walking distance to a lot of great spots (Pyramid Scheme for pinball), vintage shops, and restaurants.

This was such a cool modern hotel. The rooms were very clean, staff were professional and extremely friendly and helpful. It was in a great location for restaurants and a short walk to the Intersection for a concert. There is also an area very close that looked like an easy walk. We would definitely go back. They are pet friendly too, which is a plus, and even had a special wand in the shower that you could use to wash your pet. I thought it was a nice touch that they sold Pedialyte in the cage for those that may have overdone it slightly the night before. Fresh water dispensers on each floor were an added extra touch.

Pros : Great looking place! I’m guessing newly remodeled. Cons: lacking creature comforts. Usually I would expect more than one creamer and just plain better coffee service. Usually I would expect a plastic laundry bag or 2. They have “filter water” taps in the hallways, while it may be filtered it still tastes like it came from the pool, oh that’s right no pool. And they didn’t have that $3 water for sale I’ve come to expect. Overall beautiful place but nothing else in the way of perks. in the $200-300/ night I need more. I do have to say Nayah the front desk person was super cool for giving us a heads text about parking and an early check in. This I don’t expect!

We had a great experience at Canopy. Staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was super cute and modern. We loved that we were on the same floor of the gym, which is pretty spacious, clean, has water and cups for guests, has a great view, and has a good amount of equipment. Newer stuff, too, like a peloton bike. We loved the rooftop bar as a way to end our night. Great location. Close to a lot of nice bars and restaurants. They have bikes that guests can use to ride around the city if you'd like. They have a really nice lounge breakfast spot downstairs near the entrance. Note, breakfast is not included.. you gotta pay. You also gotta pay for parking each night. All in all, we'd definitely come back!

Nick Robison was amazing, totally helped us accommodate when booking through a third party site that did not reserve the right room. He was able to resolve that websites mistake and make it an even better experience than we could have hoped for. Appreciate you! Hotel, location and amenities were great.

Great hotel and staff. This location is within walking distance of everything downtown GR. The free filtered water is something I have never seen in a hotel, which was greatly appreciated. The rooftop bar is super nice, but you must make a reservation since it is so popular. Overall a great value for the level of comfort. Beds are decent, but I have a Tempurpedic bed so nothing ever compares.

I was so excited to stay and had literally nothing but problems. The manager, Keaton, couldn't have caused more problems if he tried. I called prior and was quoted one price, but a day into staying after checking in with literally no information, I was called multiple times, during the training I was attending, telling me we basically were going to be kicked out due to the lack of a deposit we weren't privy to. Unbeknownst to the two of use staying for training, there was an additional fee we weren't quoted that was due to be held during our stay. The manager was rude and had not even an apology for the lack of his staff not informing me when I made the reservation via phone days prior or clarifying when I checked it. The rooms were sub-par and not what you'd expect from a Hilton. They were barely stocked. We were booked for 6 days and had barely anything to help during that stay. The restaurants, especially the Portico, was the only gemstone of the establishment. The new manager there was wonderful and her staff was throughout my stay. They couldn't have been friendlier nor more willing to help. They were the only part that made me feel I was even wanted within the building. Keaton, on the other hand, couldn't have been ruder.

My first stay here, I will definitely be back. It was centrally located; staff was friendly and helpful. The room was perfect, shower was great! Only issue I had was being located next to the exercise room, and the machines made a lot of racket. Also parking wasn't attached, so you will have to go outside to get to your car.

This hotel has been my home away from home since June 2023. I can truly say that staying here made my work assignment in Grand Rapids the best experience I've ever had. Interior: The hotel is gorgeous. Very modern, clean, and well kept. The room decor is super chic, and the water pressure in the showers is perfectly powerful! The mirror in the bathroom has a bluetooth feature to connect your phone for music. There is a small refrigerator drawer as well. And the bed was super cozy, perfect when I wanted to use the blackout curtains!! Location: It's located in a great area - movie theater, tons of restaurants/bars/parks within walking distance. Access to the highway is also VERY close making commuting (whether driving or using ride share apps) incredibly easy. Although downtown, I always felt safe walking around. Parking: the parking garage is not physically attached to the hotel. You have to walk through a well lit alley to get there. There is usually security in the area throughout the night. $28/night with the parking pass. It is a shared garage, so not only for hotel guests. Staff: Probably my favorite part of being here!! Everyone is extremely nice here! The front desk staff, cleaning crew, managers - everyone goes out of their way to help. And you're ALWAYS greeted with a smile. Dimitri, Jenn, Nayah, and Jayla at the front desk were the brightest faces with the kindest dispositions. I absolutely loved interacting with them. They made my stay extraordinarily memorable. Angie was also incredibly kind and great to work with!! I HIGHLY recommend this hotel if you're in the Grand Rapids area. It's close enough to downtown to not be in the immediate hustle and bustle. If I'm ever in the area again, I would not hesitate to stay here again! Pro tip: The food at One Twenty Three Tavern (which is right next door) is PHENOMENAL.

Great place, we were within walking distance to everything we needed to do. I wish I took more pictures because it was adorable- very boutique-y. Rooms were clean, we noticed the next day the cleaning staff seemed to be very thorough in each room. We recieved Hilton points for refusing housekeeping (we stayed two nights) which was unexpected and super nice. We checked in late, so I was beyond shocked to open our curtains and see a highway over pass and a literal crane working on the building next door, because we did not hear a thing. So quiet. Grateful for that. I only gave four stars for service because we had lunch at one of the local breweries and our waitress asked about or hotel, and when we told her we were at Canopy she said, oh you get a discount if you mention that! And I thought well why didn't I know that? I mean it's no big deal but what other perks were missed? We didn't get a chance to try the restaurant(s) but it looked busy. They utilize water bottle filling stations, awesome. Loved that feature. Ah the only other downfall was my husband picked up 2 sodas from the front desk and they were both expired. But again not a big deal. Would absolutely stay again, and would absolutely recommend. Also we avoided parking by taking Amtrak in from Chicago. The train station was close and while it was walkable we used uber and made traveling so easy.

Very nice hotel, very clean. The bed was comfy. Room was nice. Luckily I was able to check in early as well, but they told they also have a getting ready room if unable to check in early. Parking garage behind the hotel. I wish valet service was available. I would go back for sure.

Really enjoyed the modern feel of this hotel. Right in the middle of a rejuvenating downtown with a lot of restaurants, bars and parks all within walking distance. There's a rooftop bar that is also open to the public. It was nice and outside seating has decent views. The hours are a little spotty though, so call or get online before you make the trip for drinks. Will likely stay here again when I am back in town.

We were searching all over Grand Rapids to find a room with a balcony and finally found canopy. We paid over $500 to stay here but literally that’s all we paid for was the balcony. Yes, the room was nice but the layout of the room was terrible. There was no fridge or microwave. The ice machine was on a separate floor and out of order. The service of the restaurant below was also not good. We were one of 2 tables and waited an hour for our food. When we questioned it they said a wedding parties order was in front of us. I don’t mind waiting for my food but we should have been told there was a wait when we sat down. Our server also never checked on us to see if we wanted more coffee or water. We actually barely saw our server more than twice within the hour we were sitting there. Once to take our order and the other to bring it out and our bill. They did however comp our food which was generous. I’m not writing this to bash the place I just think there could improvements and the staff could be more attentive. Overall the room was very clean, and the modern look was nice just inconvenient in some aspects. For example, the large window you look out of while using the restroom lol or the giant metal bar frame in the bedroom that sits in front of the tv that blocks your view.

Great location, super clean, the friendliest staff, and very chic interior. I thought the rooms could have been a bit more well appointed - we noticed the absence of basics like dirty clothes bags and larger items like microwaves and mini fridges. Would definitely return but made traveling with small kids a little harder. Better for couples, I think.

Great experience at the Canopy! Staff was very friendly and accommodating especially during check-in as we had a pet but the process was easy and smooth. The rooms were very spacious, modern, and updated. Our room had a Bluetooth mirror which was cool even though we didn’t have time to play around with it. We went to the rooftop bar and service was great there too. This hotel is in a perfect location in downtown GR and I will definitely be staying here for any future visits to the city. Highly recommend!

I have had a great experience in the hotel. Nice beds, great food, and amazing staff. I also liked how easy it was to walk from the rooms to the lower level to find the rooms we were having the I Can Program. The only recommendation I would get is figuring how to fix the mirrors in the room and to have more accessible Tv's for the visually impaired. Overall, the experience was wonderful because of the great staff like Emily, Demitrio, and Kate. Thank you all for this wonderful hotel and I would recommend it to those who love the comfort and great view and accommodating staff.

Stayed here one night over a weekend and had a really great experience. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the accomodations were clean, comfortable and up to date. More on site food offerings would have been preferred, but, thankfully it's within walking distance of so many great places in downtown Grand Rapids. Slightly higher price than your typical Holiday Inn, but not so much higher that it gives off the vibe of an upper class hotel- it's elevated in status but easily accessible to those looking to pay a little extra for an upgraded experience over a typical hotel.

I'm honestly really bummed having to write this, because I never leave bad reviews, but we were really disappointed with our experience at the Canopy hotel. While the room we booked appeared really nice when we checked in, the AC stopped working at some point in the night. By 3:00AM, the room got so hot that not only could we not sleep, we were sweating just being in there at all. The unit on the wall that controls the temperatures was completely blank and clearly broken. The windows in the room don't open, so we couldn't even get a breeze in the room. We called the front desk and someone came up to look at the AC. He looked at it for all of two seconds and said "Sorry, I don't know what could be wrong with it." When we asked to move rooms, he said they didn't have any other rooms available. When we asked for some kind of compensation he said that was not possible. No help, no solutions, just a shoulder shrug. It was extremely frustrating, especially since it was the middle of the night. We ended up just going home around 3:30AM since we live nearby and couldn't bear to be in the room any longer. I called the next morning in the hope that someone else would have a better idea of how to correct this mistake. We spoke with the manager and all we were told is that the reservation was nonrefundable. I am a flexible and understanding person, but this just seemed like bad customer service. We weren't trying to cancel, we weren't trying to get a free room, we just wanted some kind of compensation for their broken facilities. For a room to get so hot that your customers can't even be in there, and feel the need to leave, and the hotel doesn't offer ANY kind of help in return is just irresponsible. Like I said, it is truly unfortunate since we love the bar at the top of the hotel, and I never want to leave bad reviews for businesses in our own city.

My partner and I stayed here for our anniversary this past February. The hotel is beautiful and walking distance to many great restaurants. The Nespresso machine and filtered water were nice amenities to have. The bed was cozy too! All staff were welcoming and nice and we really enjoyed Knoop upstairs for cocktails and the restaurant downstairs for breakfast and coffee the next morning. The parking garage is expensive but we received a QR code for check-out and parking was free. Overall, a really great stay. One thing I didn't understand was the bathroom did not have any ventilation system. After we each took a shower, it was so humid and stuffy in the entire room from the steam and no ventilation. It was a cold February day and the room was uncomfortable after that. Even after returning from breakfast the room remained humid. We didn't want to stick around in an uncomfortably warm room so we headed to check-out. Otherwise, I'd love to come back during the spring/summer but I'm not sure it would be comfortable during the warmer/muggier months, and it would be difficult to try and get ready and do hair and makeup or anything like that.

My husband and I stayed the night for a concert at Van Andel Arena. It's within walking distance to the arena. The location is great for eating and drinking before or after the event. Staff were great too. The room was clean and I loved the shower. The shower water temperature was extra hot the way I like it. No issues with the Hilton.

It was absolutely beautiful. Our friends got married here and we stayed for two nights in a king size room. Beautiful view of the neighborhood from our window and very kind staff. Would suggest going here if you’re willing to splurge!

Disappointed in rates. Coming in from out of town for a wedding on August 5th. I tried to make reservations well in advance of wedding date and was told the wedding discount code wasn't available hotel was booked. I was able to make a reservation online (still would not accept the wedding discount code for $179/night) for a room rate more than double the discounted rate. Checked room rates the day before my reservation, still plenty of rooms available at the higher rate. I called an spoke with event planner, who did discount my rate, but not to the $179 that the bride and groom guest rate. I understand that a block of rooms was reserved, however the wedding couple has no real clue of how may rooms they actually need, and if rooms are still available up to the date of the wedding, why aren't guests given the promised room rate. Hilton brands you should and can do better.

Rooms were very clean. Staff friendly. Breakfast was expensive and should be free considering the price of hotel. It wasn't good (sorry guys) and let's talk about the loitering from non guests outside. You shouldn't allow non guests to do that. They were bothering everyone going in and coming out begging for cigarettes and money. Do something about that. Never fun being approached by someone you don't know begging for all your stuff.

The hotel and room were nicely decorated, and I liked having a smart TV in the room. Otherwise, I was not impressed. I really dislike how hotels like this nickel and dime for every little thing. This was the only hotel we stayed at on our entire trip that charged for breakfast, as cheaper hotels like Holiday Inn even include it. But what was much worse is that they added on a $28 parking charge to our total bill. That was not communicated to us initially as the nightly rate plus taxes and fees did not include the parking. To make matters worse, $28 was actually MORE than what we would have paid if we just paid for the parking ourselves, as it’s only $20 a night. That was a real slap in the face and is frankly ridiculous. If you are paying to stay at a hotel, at least the parking there should be included. In addition, it was very difficult and confusing to try to find the hotel from the parking garage. There were no signs telling us where to go and we had to ask someone for help. I will not be staying here again if my travels bring me back to Grand Rapids.

Canopy hotel is in a great location downtown. It has a beautiful roof top bar with amazing cocktails. Unfortunately, we encountered an issue with parking after checking out. The website says that parking is $28 a night so we were expecting that charge. We inserted our card and got a $54 charge (parked at 3pm on 1/7 left at 10:30am on 1/8). As we were driving away, we saw a sign with Canopy’s logo. I called the front desk and they said because we already paid there was nothing they could do about it. The woman I spoke to was kind and I am sure just following protocol but I asked if I could check with her manager. When the assistant manager answered he was rude and unhelpful. I explained that we interacted with the front desk workers twice and neither worker asked if we needed our parking validated. Their website states that parking is $28 a night and doesn't state that parking will be validated by the hotel. He said that the information I was providing was untrue and that there are signs posted throughout the hotel and on the website. He said even though he has my credit card on file he would not reimburse us for the cost of parking. He said that when we checked out, the front desk staff asked if I had any other needs and I chose to leave without asking to have my parking validated. We are very disappointed with the customer service we received.

Definitely not worth the money. They are over priced without a special coupon. The rooms are below average for a hotel as fancy looking as this, but the King sized bed was amazing. They do not offer breakfast and charge you for parking which is unacceptable for the prices you have to pay to spend the night at this place. Would recommend somewhere else unless you really need a place to stay.

  • 4/5 Stacey N. 1 year ago on Google
The hotel was great. It was in a great location and had a parking garage right next to it. The room was amazing and the staff was friendly. However, we didn’t leave our room until about noon each day and after the first day of the room not being serviced I specifically asked the desk if they could come after noon to take care of it and was told that was fine. They never showed to service the room and I had to drag an armful of towels, cups, clean mugs etc back up to the room. Also ice machines are only on one floor??? Kinda weird. The gym was spacious and well equipped. The rooftop bar was beautiful and a nightcap was the perfect end to the day. Overall would stay here again and just make sure the housekeeping was sorted on arrival.
