One of the most beautiful orthodox churches in Germany! It is located at the proximity of the Hochzeitsturm - the major landmark of Darmstadt - and surrounded by an artificial lake/fountain and orchard. I could not visit the inside due to an ongoing mass, but I was satisfied with just admiring the rich and colorful exterior (the church went under major reconstruction just several years ago). Easily recognizable by its golden onion shaped domes, the church is more than 120 years old and was built for the Russian tsar Nicholas II. The park is located just meters away and is a great venue for afternoon stroll or even a picnic, the atmosphere here is calm and quiet. Visited in November 2022.

Iconically impressive atmosphere for a very small Church, it's stunning yet sombre! An amazing discovery! Visited here in 2015 as I was staying in Frankfurt. The first thing I noticed is the golden onion domes! It has a rich history going back to Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia. This is a fascinating Church, very small yet beautiful. There's a small chapel inside and the interior is stunningly painted with beautiful frescoes. I took away warmth from this beautiful little Church!

Beautiful Architecture at perfect location makes this place more lovable. There is cafe near to this place. It is just walking distance from City center and also easy to reach here by public transport. Garden next to it adds to it's beauty.

(Translated by Google) I was there once for the Saturday service. There was a young and an older priest and they celebrated very well and responded to each other. Was very intimate. At the end of the vigil, the priest makes a cross on his forehead with an oil. Incredible. Unglaublich.

(Translated by Google) Construction from 1897 financed by the last Russian tsar Nikolaus and his wife Alexandra from Darmstadt. The chapel was the first building on Mathildenhöhe. Everything else, the wedding tower, exhibition building and artists' colony came later. The chapel is completely up, Russian earth. The tiles on the outer wall come from Villeroy and Boch. Inside there is an imposing iconostasis carved from oak (picture wall).

If you are a Christian or simply interested in the history of an Orthodox Church visit it to expand your knowledge A very quiet even harmonious place where you feel so free as in your childhood... Service women are patient and absolutely not annoying while you pray or simply admire the internal beauty. Get a little bit acquainted with the history of the Russian Royal family to know why this church appeared precisely here and when. The icons and the very sanctuary are in good conditions and keep their own oils and paints contrast enough. It's not open till the very night and every day, therefore verify their schedule planning your visit.
