Although the SKS was a few years ago, Ecki quickly got me back into the topic with fun and a little patience. On the whole trip, people too often resort to electronics out of convenience, e.g. GPS instead of taking bearings. The area of ​​the practice map is very interesting and due to the scale you cannot clearly see approaches or other points of nautical interest. It's not part of the exam, but it's just interesting at the moment. No problem! In the sailing center there are maps of the right scale for everything, on which courses are often already drawn. Why? Because Ecki was already there. And so the practice tasks essentially become trip planning with local knowledge. This then makes it clear and understandable why it is better to look at and calculate this or that before you go on a trip in areas with strong tides. In addition, Eckhard has some efficient calculation methods up his sleeve, which replace some eternally long formulas with graphical solutions. Just the thing for everyday life on board. There was one drawback: I would have liked to cast off the lines straight away and enjoy the famous Channel Island Curry Woscht on board. If you prefer to have teachers who strictly read your slides, this is the wrong place for you. Here we teach and learn in a relaxed atmosphere with a lot of practical relevance. You take the reading material home with you, because everyone can read for themselves.
