The Margravial Opera House is a Baroque opera house in the town of Bayreuth, Germany, built between 1745 and 1750. It is one of Europe's few surviving theatres of the period and has been extensively restored. On 30 June 2012, the opera house was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Must see! Booked the English visit on a Thursday and it was perfect. Lucked out and was the only person. Plenty of parking houses very near. I used the Rathaus parking garage and had a 2-3 minute walk. The tour is an audio visual experience while seated in the theater. It is informative, I believe 10 or 15 minutes in German with easy to read English subtitles. Samples of opera are played to give you a sense of what a performance would be like. The ooerahouse itself is not large but there is so much elegance packed into it you just have to see it. Would plan for 45 minutes. Also, convienent and clean public restroom directly across from operahouse.

a must visit place if you’re visiting Bayreuth. It looks quite normal from the outside but inside is fascinating! Very beautifully decorated with an amazing “sound effects “ from the past. 😉

Cool restaurant in Bayreuth. Decent prices (33 euros for two people with starter, main and drinks) and nice to see something so different/exotic in this town. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. Only downside is that is cash only.

Parking: recommend Parkhaus Oberfrankenhalle/Sportpark (6min walk) Duration: 30min-1hr worth just sitting in the opera house enjoying the view. Museum is in English and German discussing the restoration of the opera house. Worth a drive to see this spectacular hall! (No longer need a tour to visit the hall)

Fantastic place to visit, an absolute must. They have organised tours, that are in German, but very interesting. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and went into extensive detail about the place. Even if yiu don't understand German, you can try translating direct speech in Google translate, or just come to enjoy the beautiful building.

This you have to see by yourself, such a wonderful example of how a true opera house should be. Remarkable!

Beautiful, historical Opera House well worth a visit if you're in Bayreuth! The building and interior are spectacular and the museum is full of interesting items with well presented displays and artifacts. Many of the exhibits' information are written in both German and English.

One of the most beautiful opera houses in the world in Bayreuth. You will be overwhelmed by its opulence and splendor. Tour is settled for each time slot in a day. There is an English-speaking tour once a day.Schedule of English tour is changed by each month, please check the website of opera house. Contents of tour is watching a German movie of opera house history with English subtitles. After seeing movie, we can take a picture of opera house freely.

Beautiful baroque opera, worth the visit! A short movie in German with very few English sub titles is displayed during the visit. It explains the origin of the opera. Then a guide provided more explanations but only in German.

Very disappointed to miss this because of one miserable staff member. We had traveled from Alaska and had driven 6 hours that day from Innsbruck to get there at 3:27 when the last tour was 3:15. We even saw it opened, but had forgotten a wallet in the park area. She said we would disturb the tour in progress — we are two professionals in our mid-30s with no kids (and could have been late). She said we get Australians and other foreigners so you’re not special. She said “those are the rules” which sounds a lot like “just following orders”🫡. How can you let someone work with the public that is this terribly unforgiving? I hope she is NEVER late for anything in her life and if ever asking for a favor sees my face. Portly, repugnant staff member gatekeeping for what? She even admitted the tours end much to early but meh shrug, I don’t care to help you. View the opera house because it looks enchanting, but if you are not German they will be hating you and judging you I am sure. Unfortunate.

This building is amazing, the artwork and craftsmanship of the stage and theater area is beyond words. If you are in Bayreuth make sure you take the time to stop and tour the Opera House it is definitely a place you will never forget.

What a place to visit and see this historically site! This beautiful UNISCO Opera House is 270 years old, but it’s still breathtaking! We sat through 40 minute presentation in German, but didn’t mind at all! It is very impressive how well this place has been maintained. It’s a must for visitors to see this place! €8 for adults and children are free.

Very beautiful and well cared for theatre with friendly staff. I would have preferred less of a talking tour and more time to appreciate the space without narration. Nevertheless worthwhile seeing.

Deservedly the main attraction of Bayreuth. Beautiful inside, definitely worth a visit. Pity there not enough time to listen to all the things on the audio guide (always included in the ticket), but it does give a chance to get to know place.
