There was nowhere to sit by the beach under the scorching sun as the tiny number of umbrellas available had all been rented out (most were lying around on the beach, closed and unused, but strangely 'unavailable'). The results is that people were amassed in the shaded area under the tree canopy towards the eastern side of the beach, and given this was packed to the rafters already the only other option left was to sit on the benches by the restaurant. Another massive problem if you have small kids is that this is not really a beach. There is sand, then there is a sudden concrete-built drop and then deep-ish water. Impossible for a toddler to go back and forth with water and sand toys. Massive disappointment and we won't be coming back. The lakes in SW Berlin are far better.
