The
Church
of
San
Ginés
is
a
Catholic
temple
located
in
the
Spanish
city
of
Guadalajara
built
in
the
17th
century.
It
is
located
south
of
the
old
town
of
the
city
in
the
now
central
Plaza
de
Santo
Domingo,
formerly
outside
the
city
walls
and
market
square.
The
old
parish
of
San
Ginés
was
located
in
what
is
now
Plaza
de
Moreno,
in
front
of
the
Provincial
Council.
While
the
current
one
was
the
temple
of
the
convent
of
Santo
Domingo
(now
disappeared),
an
institution
that
had
moved
from
the
neighboring
hamlet
of
Benalaque
in
1555.
Its
construction
began
in
1561,
requesting
a
large
temple
from
the
members
of
the
Dominican
order.
The
achievement
of
the
original
plans
could
not
be
carried
out
and
despite
the
donation
of
1,000
ducats
from
Archbishop
Bartolomé
de
Carranza,
the
works
were
interrupted
in
1566.
For
this
reason,
the
dimensions
of
the
current
church
are
half
of
those
initially
projected.
The
temple
of
San
Ginés
should
follow
the
model
of
Santo
Tomás
in
Ávila
or
San
Esteban
in
Salamanca,
having
a
“tapestry”
or
“altarpiece”
type
façade,
with
two
large
buttresses
and
belfries
at
the
top,
and
a
large
arch
to
mortise
the
access
door.
