Churu is a city and Lok Sabha constituency in the desert region of Rajasthan, also known as the "Gateway to the Thar Desert". It was founded by Churu Jat in 1620 AD. It was previously known as Kalera Bas, and later the city was founded by Kaler Jats. Many tourists visit Churu and there are also many havelis (mansions) around, such as Bangla ki Haveli and Surana Haveli. These havelis are a wonderful example of Rajasthani architectural style, with frescoes and beautiful canopy decorations. Near the city is an akhara (monastery) of Nath Sadhus, where there are statues of deities. There is also a Dharma-Stupa which is a symbol of religious equality. In the center of the city is a fort that is about 400 years old.
