The best spot on the the island, and perhaps even in Bissau. The food is great, the chef knows how to exploit all the fresh ingredients the island offers, don't miss out on the pizza that gets served in the evening. The chef-owner is also a nice chatty person, I bet he's gonna make a great host with the B&B he's opening up. The place is cosy but can't offer tables for everyone, be sure to make a reservation before.

Great place overlooking the sea with access down to the beach also. The Spanish owner Melchor is a fantastic cook. Had some truly excellent lunches and dinners here including I think probably the best pizza in West Africa! He also looked after us very well while we spent time in Bubaque - helping to organise trips and sorting out logistics etc. A really brilliant find and if you ask nicely he has a room or two you can rent!

Where do we start? We spent 3 days at Saldo Mar using it as a base to visit Bubaque and the nearby island of Carnhabaque. As soon as we entered the gate of this small and intimate place we were blown away by the attention to detail. The sculptured furniture, seashell sinks, a surround sound system playing classical tunes in the morning, a small path leading down to the beach, and a magical view on the nearby island of the archipelago all come together to create the impression of small safe heaven. A peaceful place where you can switch off, forget about the outside world and focus on the tasty food cooked by the master-mind behind this unpretentious B&B- Melchior. Melchior, is generous, funny and kind. Add to this list the fact that heโ€™s an excellent chef and youโ€™ve got quite the recipe for a good stay. Heโ€™s also conscious of his environmental footprint which is why there is no use of plastic bottles, and all energy is produced thanks to solar panels. When youโ€™re staying at Saldo Marโ€™s there is a feeling that youโ€™ve been invited into his home. It feels personal, and so the interactions between travelers and the host mirrors exactly this. Hands down one of the best places we have been to in west Africa so far. Johan & Diana

Based in Africa standards is the best you can find in the Island. And when I mean Africa Standards, Iโ€™m not that guy that looks for ocidental culture when I travel. So... the place is extremely well decorated and the view is like a postcard. The food is absolutely great. We spent 2 amazing nights there. The only thing I have to point is the music that, sometimes, is more than it should if you want to rest in the afternoon or sleep after 9.

When we went there we were lucky, as we could try their awesome pizza without having it ordered beforehand which you should definitely do as they plan their mise en place accordingly. The owners are really nice, funny and kind, unlike other places around. Also prices are decent. Definite recommendation!

Beautiful and peaceful location overlooking the sea and amazing food - the best food one can find in Bubaque or even in Bissau! It is also cheaper than surrounding hotels. Quite an achievement considering the quality it offers within the limited resources of these islands!

๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ”This is a must when you visit Bubaque (Bijagรณs archipelago, Guinea Bissau). Managed by a charming man, who cooks and treats his guests as family, Sal do Mar is definitively a place to enjoy. Melchor always has a smile, a good conversation and delicious dishes and desserts. He really conquered me with his rice with smoked oysters, baked fish, pumpkin soup, yam chicken, lentil soup, banana biscuits, chocolate mousse or almond cake. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปBut keep in mind that it's Bubaque and the menu will depen in what Melchor can get from the market. Just trust on him, anything he would cook will be amazing. โš ๏ธ Need to book in advance. Gracias Melchor por hacerme sentir como en casa ๐Ÿ˜‰

This is a gem in the middle of the archipelago. Melchor, the owner and Chef of the restaurant will provide you with affordable and pleasant accommodation and even better restaurant service. He cooks like the angels and has built himself a fully ecological place with excellent taste and care. Views are astonishing. Music is excellent. We will come back, as often as we can!

Amazing B&B and restaurant in a great location at Bubaque. The owner knows the area very well, and can give great advice about all things Bijagos. Prices are reasonable, and the whole place feels like a calm oasis in the middle of bustling Africa.

The best place to stay on Bubaque. Melchor and his staff are friendly, helpful and have great suggestions for visits to the other islands. Also, excellent food.

This is a gem and tranquille piece in middle of GB craziness. Melchor will make you feel as if you are at home - regardless a country / continent you are coming from! His cooking is exceptional. Was very hesitant before deciding to eat his pizza (as got bad food poisoning from the one served in the bistro in Bissau) but his pizza was amazing!! He cooks better than your mum, and has built himself a fully ecological place with excellent taste and care. Views are astonishing. Hope to come back, as what he is doing there is amazing!!! Would give 6/5 if I could ;)

Staying at Melchor is an experience by itself. His charismatic character, his cooking and the amazing views get you in an atmosphere that you don't want to leave. Attention to detail, good company and good advises make a perfect combo for a beautiful stay in Bubaque.

This place is absolutely amazing, and Melchior is definitely up there on the "best hosts" list that I've ever had. The cleanliness, the views, the vibes of the place, and the food - delicious food! -, everything's perfect. A small paradise in the nature with a beach underneath. Thank you for everything Melchior!

The chef patron is extremely friendly. I came for dinner twice in a weekend. I was just sad the hotel was full and I couldnโ€™t stay. Just take care walking on the largely unlit path here at night (I stepped into a dry water channel ๐Ÿซฃ)
