Cafe Silvestre

Restaurant Cafe Mexican restaurant Latin american restaurant

😠 I was excited to try this place out after it got rebuilt, then I actually went. It's sad because they had a lot of opportunity to change but it's the same bad food drinks. The service isn't terrible but it's not worth it to come here. Also they're salsa is marinira sauce with some spices added. People often mention service, good, great, Great, staff, nice, salsa, Mexican, restaurant, sauce,

UPDATE: After the new building was erected I like the new space. But my previous review below is still valid with the addition of extremely poor (slow) service. — Of the choices of Mexican food in Gunnison this one is now at the bottom of my list. The food is marginal. They are frequently out of a large portion of the menu, which is ok once in a while but not every single time I go in. And lastly, the margaritas are extremely weak. There are much better choices like Anejo's (1st choice), or El Paraiso (2nd choice).

A pretty good Mexican restaurant. Family owned and run. Good menu and staff. We had the breakfast burrito which was very fine and tasty. Have eaten there before and all dishes are as expected, good tasting and enjoyable. When in Gunnison, give Silvestre a try.

Well the staff was friendly and the place is nice and clean. We were there for the food though and I don't have anything nice to say about that. Pretty sure everything is out of a can or frozen. Let's just say you are better off going to taco bell

They NEVER have chili rellenos or tamales when I come and it doesn't matter what day of the week, also pretty expensive. We used to go alot, but I think we will dine elsewhere.

Excellent service. Staff was fantastic. Wanted chili rellanos but they were out came back and still out asked when they would have them again and the lady that usually makes them was out of town at a funeral and the cook stepped up and had us come back the next day for them. They went above and beyond to make us happy. And the food was great.

Looked great from the street. Open air, cool vibe. We were seated promptly, lots of open seats. We were never offered chips that were on the counter, ready to be given to patrons. The servers were busy but not crushed. They never offered a menu or took our drink order. We were invisible. Then a biker club pulled up, and the servers promptly added a table to a setting pre-prepared for them. When the servers started taking drink orders, we left. This has happened before. We are seniors, barely, but there is no excuse for ignoring paying customers.

I have no idea how this place has stayed in business. The hours are super odd, mostly not open, and the food is low quality.

Across from City Market. The chimichanga was so good. Food overall was good and so was the service.

Huge disappointment. Poor service, worst "Mexican" food I've ever had and too high prices. Would be better off going to Taco Bell than here.

Open air place, nice and clean, service was so so, chips were fresh, salsa was tomato soup style, we ordered chicken quesadilla it came out a tortilla with cheese on it and a couple of pieces of meat was a very weird interaction with the staff after they delivered this and I said this is the quesadilla they said yes this is their quesadilla it really tasted Bland and dry

To begin with…the salsa was not very good. It was very salty. They charged extra for chips and salsa. My husband and I both had Cheese enchiladas with rice (very salty) and beans and iced tea. It was very expensive and this was the cheapest thing on the menu at over $13 ea. The service was great!!! Our bill was over $40 for two meals. I won’t go back. I understand inflation…but I felt like the prices were really high for Mexican food.

Very expensive, over 80 for 2 people at lunch with no alcohol 😐. Food was ok but nothing special.

Three of us ate here mid week. Oh my, the food was amazing. The portions were huge and the service was great, especially with the staffing shortage everyone is experiencing now. We vacation in the area often and this will be on our list each and very time!

Very overpriced, especially for bad food. The sauce on everything was super overpowering and oddly (and badly) flavored. The food came out very very hot, so hot that the sauce on my plate was boiling which was fine, just weird. The salsa tasted like spicy tomato sauce. The restaurant itself is super clean and cute, and the staff was nice!

Someone needs to hide the salt shaker in the kitchen. Everything was way over salted to the point my tongue had a chemical burn. Even the beans were salty. Couldn't finish my meal. Server claimed mole sauce for beef enchiladas didn't include chocolate as it was vegetarian based. Pointed out chocolate WAS vegetable based and is on 1 menu item with filling could be beef, chicken or cheese. Go to Taco Bell. Not ton of variety but no salt lick.

Food was pretty good and at least they're open during listed hours which is more than I can say for their competition.

Beef Tacos are not seasoned, beans are boring. Salsa is tomato sauce. Taco Bells tacos have more flavor and are waaaay cheaper.

Really good food and service (to go)! Chille Rellenos were great, Hach chilies! Best I've had at a restaurant!

We ordered a burrito & four chicken tacos. The bill came to $35 before tip. It seems like they’ve raised pricing since covid - as many restaurants have - which in this case really isn’t worth it. The quality of food was very poor: cheap cheddar cheese & salsa that tasted like nothing even though I doused it on. Both burrito and tacos were pretty flavorless. We were treating ourselves and really wanted to support local businesses but it was a disappointing experience unfortunately.

Best bowl of Menudo in the county! Great food, friendly staff, and their new building is gorgeous! The new outdoor deck is going to be prime for margaritas in the summer sun. The salsa is a bit bland, but their chimichangas are on point! Also the cheapest sit down mexican restaurant in town. Definitively check this place out.
