Hello, I would like to explain my experience with the Exit Experience - Houdini room in Mainz. We were 4 people and I found it perfect to solve the puzzle. I am rating it with two stars because I liked some things, and I think that others could be improved. First, when we got to the venue, we where able to park at the place, and also there where plenty of spaces in the street, so parking was quite convenient. The location is also easy to reach and find. When we went into the place, the worker was very nice and friendly. There was a wide waiting room for the guests and also drinks available at the entrance in case one wants to have a refreshment. We waited until everybody was there, and then the worker explained the instructions and told a little story about each room to get into the mood. After that, each group went into the room. Now I am going to explain about the room. I tried to avoid any spoilers, though if you are planing on doing the Houdini room, you may not want to read further. We went into the room, and there we found the first puzzle. It involved numbers and colours, and we understood how we should solved it but could not find the clue to finish the problem. We were already using up too much time and decided to asked for help. When we got the tip I felt that the solution was quite arbitrary, and did not feel that I could have solved it on my own. Only by trial and error would have taken too much time. After that, we needed to do some long calculations. In this case, having some paper and pencil available would have been helpful since we had to solve the whole puzzle from the beginning every time we had to do a calculation. We felt frustrated having to do everything again and again many times. Some pencil and paper to make notes would have been much better. There where also two elements that I missed in this room, that I have found in other places. First of all, I really like to have a clock in the room indicating how much time we have left. That allows one to manage time and split it for the puzzles. It also adds an additional time pressure that makes the experience much more fun. Also, I really enjoy when the door is really locked (here it was only closed). It also allows one to get deep in the mood, and opening the door at the end gives an extra emotion. All in all, the experience was average. I would certainly not repeat this room since compared to other escape rooms I have solved this one was not specially elaborate. Maybe the other rooms are better and the experience is funner. When we were leaving we were offered a 15% discount, but only if we payed for the reservation at that moment. We did not want to spend the money then, and decided not to take it. However, it is very likely that I would have used it in the future to try out another room, so I would recommend that people could take the discount home without paying. I hope this comment helps both the organisations of the rooms and the people that want to make a reservation. Cheers!

Staff is very friendly. The theme Houdini was ok, wouldn't recommend this room.

The following review applies only to the Willy Wonka room; We didn't visit the others (and don't plan to anymore)! We've been to a lot of escape rooms, but this one was by far the worst of them all! It starts with the fact that there are chairs and empty drink crates piled up in front of the entrance to the building... not a very inviting view, but you could ignore that... After the briefing (er, or the distribution of the sealed texts on which the story is written, which is what it's all about - really very atmospheric and introductory...) we were led into a really very shabby room: the wallpaper was old, stained and in some places already peeling off, a dirty carpet where you wouldn't voluntarily sit on, an old drain pipe (spoiler alert: that's supposed to represent a candy cane), some balls on the worn carpet that you know from the children's ball pit... I'll leave the rest out of. Ah, and since it's supposed to be about Willy Wonka, an armchair (yes, it's awesome...). The state of the room alone made us look at each other and ask if she was serious. The puzzles were all based on the same pattern: a cupboard with 14 bicycle locks, 14 short texts, finding out the combination of numbers from the text 14 times and done... totally uninspired and boring. Even the few utensils are unusable! For example, anyone? A small picture, shrink-wrapped, cut up, has to be folded... It's just stupid that the picture is so old and crumpled and the shrink-wrapped edges are now really opening up so that the picture is unrecognizable. So you don't even think it's necessary to reprint it? Ah and of course there is musical accompaniment… if of course it is not forgotten…. We saw the player ourselves and turned it on...😓 The kids also lost about 30 minutes of fun and we all got out early... It would have only been this one room, no access to another, as is usual in other ERs! There is only one star for the friendly staff.

It's hard for me to write a review because this was the first escape room for me and I don't have any comparisons, but based on stories from others and the disappointed children at our children's birthday party, I would rather conclude that this wasn't that great. We had booked the Wonka room. It started with the fact that all the children were given the story to read instead of receiving an interesting story... it wasn't well received. Then the room itself was rather shabby, very small and I found some of the things for the puzzles disgusting to touch because they were completely worn out. All puzzles were a little too difficult for the children (10-11 years) and could not be completed without the help of adults. Which caused frustration for some and the children then looked for something to play with instead of continuing with the puzzles. I read about music in the other reviews, but we didn't have that either. Unfortunately, after 60 minutes we hadn't managed everything and asked for an extension to 90 minutes. Yes, we were informed when we registered that we had to decide straight away which length we would take, so that was fine BUT there was no one there after us, why couldn't those who still wanted to continue, we would have paid for the extension too . Since I've never done an escape room before, it was just too difficult for me to judge at the beginning whether 60 minutes would be enough. Regardless, I wouldn't book this room again. I can't say what the other rooms are like. The nice staff and the easy booking online were positive.

Review for the Willy Wonka Room: We were all very disappointed. The room is shabby and run down. The puzzles... well, are rather boring and, in our opinion, pointless. We definitely cannot recommend the room! The young lady at reception was super friendly.

Also wer danach einen entspannten/schicken Abend in Mainz verbringen will, sollte sich irgendwo frisch machen danach. Die Anfahrt war okay, in der E-Mail ist ja eindeutig beschrieben wie man da hin kommt.

We were there today. Receptionist very kind and accommodating. However, the Wonka room was very run down, the puzzles didn't reveal anything and they were simple hardware store locks that had to be opened. For over 100 euros an hour I would have imagined a lot more.
