The dam is on the side of the A1 motorway towards Remscheid / Wuppertal. On the other side of the motorway in the direction of Cologne you can cross the bridge to the dam. You can park “upstairs” in the rest parking lot. A very nice circular route to stretch your legs. An optimal break time for us....

Sometimes there is a lot going on around the dam. But it's a wonderful tour and thanks to the adjacent rest area, you can even use a toilet and treat yourself to a snack if necessary. Walk or jog, a good place for both.

(Translated by Google) Here you can go hiking. Even if you can't get to the water anywhere. The trail itself is pure nature, i.e. not tarred or treated with gravel. So in rainy weather or after, boots are to be worn. The path directly around the lake is almost 3 kilometers long.

The dam wall offers a beautiful view of the dam and is a good starting point for a circular route and other hikes.

The walk around the Remscheid dam has a tradition of over 120 years for the people of Remscheid. The number of blacksmiths and factory workers who were able to do something good for their lungs here at least on the weekend is legion. An eventful, varied walk. It's also an easy-to-drive, undemanding route, even for people who can't walk or can no longer walk very well.

The Eschbachtalsperre is approx. 3.5 km long. a walking path all around. This can easily be done in an hour. There is only an incline near the dam wall on the side of the hotel. Very popular for taking a walk, both with walkers and joggers.

(Translated by Google) You have to see it, because this monument is the first dam wall in the world based on the Intze principle, which is the model for all modern dam walls. When you see this wall, you can perhaps understand that it took a few years before you believed the calculations that a wall of this type could withstand the water pressure simply by its shape and weight.

You can even do a kind of treasure hunt there, unfortunately we didn't have enough time for that... There is a hotel, a gas station, parking spaces in the area...

Here you can park at the rest area and take a short break. For ambitious drivers there is the opportunity to take a walk around the reservoir through the forest.

Interesting and worthwhile place. Especially if you leave the actual tour and look at what nature still has to offer.

(Translated by Google) Exceptional approach via the rest area. Then a recommended hike around the freshwater reservoir. Finally, coffee and cake at the hotel. So you have brought a nice day out behind you.

(Translated by Google) First drinking water dam in Germany. lower circuit of about 3.5km in length. You can walk a second "upper" circuit that is about 5.5 meters long. Parking at the BAB hotel / service area Remscheid, A1 direction Dortmund, the hotel can also be reached by car via a bridge from the direction of Cologne. There is also a VRR bus stop at the hotel. After a tour around the dam, we recommend a rest on the idyllic terrace/beer garden of the hotel. There are several charging stations for e-cars in the parking lot.
