I've always been curious about second-hand shops and have never been there. Yesterday, after a Google Map search, I came to the Brockenhaus. The clerks are very friendly to dogs. Cutlery and knives are cheap, and furniture is barley cheaper than brand new. There was an elder work who was very warm and introduced many of them to me, although SOME of them I could not understand because my German was not good. The tables and chairs I just bought are now in use, which is very suitable for my terrace. You can kill two birds with one stone by buying things you like and helping others. It's a great place to hang out ,for newcomers to Germany is a golden opportunity to talk native people and practice language 🫢🫢

I can agree with many commenters here: + You can always find decorations and other things that you can buy used here instead of constantly having to buy new things. The prices are great. e.g. A large, beautiful picture frame for just €5? I was so lucky that this wasn't bought by someone else. Since I was there several times in one week, I met very friendly employees who helped me (information about an item, help taking an item out of the shelf). - The selection is relatively small Not all employees are negative, but a very small selection! The checkout area with certain employees are really bad. Of course, it could be that this is completely normal in the store and that everyone talks to each other like that. Or that the customers are difficult and that's why people talk like that. Since I was only there for the picture frames, I can't assess that. In Hagen they also have a department store like this, but in it they also have a department with antiques/much more expensive used furniture. Do you still have a branch? Or are these sold elsewhere? (if they are sold at all).

I actually really enjoy going to the BROCKENHAUS every now and then and I've often found really nice things there and been happy about them. Since I find the topic of sustainability important, I think the concept of this type of department store is really great. Today I was really annoyed and told one of the employees on site about it. I have often noticed employees talking in front of the storage room about what things they would personally take with them. I don't know if this is 100% accurate to customers, but as far as I'm concerned... But today I noticed a customer who had 2 full shopping baskets full of things that weren't even offered in the store area. I know this because I had been browsing there for about an hour and hadn't seen any of these goods in the baskets. In addition, I then observed how an employee gave this customer a pink sweater, which of course was not on display in the sales room. This gave the impression that the customer and employee knew each other. Well, I have to say, I honestly think that's quite an injustice to the other customers, especially because I've noticed several times how customers are complained about when they go to boxes that haven't been cleared away yet. So just a well-intentioned criticism... Equal rights for everyone would be a great thing!
