An amazing display of occupation and evacuation hardships in northern Norway in WWII. Everything was burned in the later part of the wat, when German army was retreating. Then followed the Reconstruction, the building of 10,000 or so new homes to bring people back. These were used to 'norwegianise' Finnmark by introducing uniform dwellings, but also brought new designs in furniture and homewares which became popular far beyond the region. Area around this museum in Hammerfest is full of Reconstruction homes and has a protected architectural status

Good museum. Almost all of the displays have an English commentary. With a focus on the reconstruction of Norway following WW2, it provides a different angle from your average war museum. Good view over the town from the observation tower.

Very well done. A bit sad topic for me, but liked a professional and nice settings.

Unexpectedly interesting, with the bonus that you get to go to the tower and have a great 360 view of the town. I am very happy I visited it and highly recommend it!

Coming from Germany I have to admit that I only had limited awareness of the impact of second world War to Norway. Great documentation and a must see.

Displays are very well orchestrated and draw you into the story. Descriptions are in both Norwegian and English. Gift shop has many books about the history of Norway. Guide said it is the best in northern Norway.
