First let me say this ....... I have visited almost all the museums available in Hanoi, even the infantry museum. This is by far the most up-to-date and worthwhile one. The rest you can skip. IF you are into ancient and contemporary art mixed with historical facts, this is the place for you. Important notes: 1. Have a meal before you head over so that you will have patience to enjoy each painting or artifact. 2. Get the audio guide. (50,000, you can get one and share it by putting your phone on speaker). 3. Save at least 90 - 120mins to explore. 4. Bring a bottle of water. This is a good time to visit this museum as they are having a Japanese doll exhibition too. MAKE ART, NOT WAR 🎨

Incredible collection, one of the most up to date national art museums I’ve seen with lots of works dating from the last few years. Entry is 40k, audio guide is 50k although I didn’t go for it. There’s a lot to see so I’d recommend carving out a good hour or two to get through it all. Even if you breeze through a few rooms, the museum’s layout is rather confusing and it’s easy to miss something incredible hidden away. My advice is to work floor by floor and be careful not to miss the rooms hidden at the far ends of every corridor. Signage could do with some work.

A must-see place for art and culture enthusiasts. The museum contains 3 floors worth of art pieces which capture the local art styles and methods. I recommend springing for the audio tour access while visiting. It's worth it as it offers a good glimpse into the culture and history which shaped the country's arts.

Visiting the fine arts museum in Hanoi was an exhilarating experience. I encountered remarkable exhibits, immersed myself in the richness of Vietnamese culture and art. The museum's atmosphere delves into the country's history, creating a unique and lasting impression.

Contrary to some of the comments here, i think the collection is very well selected and extensive enough to roam around for hours. I certainly underestimated its size and wasn’t able to give everything the proper attention. It is mostly air conditioned and i think i spotted an elevator for handicapped people. I absolutely enjoyed the museum and the museum shop as well.

This place actually holds a very valuable potential as the exhibitions are well-kept. And how saigon movement changing to ho chi min city, it was from uncle Ho… However, at some galleries, the atmosphere is eery with poor lighting. It can also be very quiet which creates unsettling feeling when not many people are visiting.. They have stall selling the art very cheap and original drawing and painting from stall owner. It was made from rice paper it cost (70k Dong = USD2.5) ✅ entrance fee 30K Dong (USD 1)

Incredible museum. Left me silent, speechless and thoughtful on many occasions. Each floor and sometimes each room is like stepping into a totally different museum. Certainly a different space. The laquered wood section was especially impressive. I think anyone who likes art or even people who dont care that much should come to this museum on their visit to hanoi. It’s cheap and you definitely wont regret it :)

Iwent there with high hopes, after entering inside the museum all my hopes were fulfilled. At first I was fascinated by the outside environment. I didn’t understand that there were many more surprises waiting for me inside. After entering inside the museum I feel very good. After walking around the whole museum, I learned a lot about Vietnam's history and traditions. I was attracted by the pictures and artworks there. Because the artworks were arranged over time, we could easily capture the social changes in Vietnam.

A brilliant way to spend 60-90 minutes. Set in an old French style building, the rooms are spaciously curated over 2 wings and 4 floors (all accessible y stairs only). Art ranges from 1st century to contemporary pieces....something to capture everyone. The ceramics collection in the basement is the largest we've seen in 🇻🇳. Entry is 40k vnd. The surrounding location is busy, so it is really polluted... a taxi there will support a healthier visit. Open on Christmas day.

Go if you’re an art lover and you love Hanoi/Vietnam! No wait, just go anyway! We walked from the old quarter and had a great 30 min stroll. Inside we saw old artwork as well as new. 3 levels to the museum and the 1st the oldest assessing to the newest artworks. I only rate it 4/5 stars because it didn’t have enough contemporary art. Would love to see more! Go!

Went to see the Dutch Masters exhibition. Three rooms with mostly digital art. One of the rooms is dedicated to the timeline of big events in the Netherlands. It was not too busy so we could sit down and enjoy the projected art for a bit. Bit of a shame it was digital or newly printed art, but the rooms are well presented and make it easy to enjoy everything. You can wander around and check all the details and info. 40k Entrance fee for exhibition and rest of the museum.

As always, I slandered very slowly through the rooms of this fine art museum. I love to take my time and try to immerse myself in the multitude of worlds the artists have created and also try to put myself in their shoes - how it must’ve been for them during the creation process. Truly fascinating artworks. I could and should’ve spent the whole day there. Next time! My friend and I didn’t know it already closes at 5pm - we didn’t pay attention to the closing time. That’s what I’d recommend for you guys in the future - come earlier in the morning if you can! Then you can all the time of the world for the day and maybe even find time to do some output while getting so much input. Writing, sketching, drawing… one thing that annoyed me a bit was the massive amount of people in “beautiful” clothes that intend to be there to take an endless of amount of photos. It kind of does distract the moment of appreciation for art when those people take photos for such shallow reasons. But well, we live in that kind of time period now.

Interesting museum about fine arts of Vietnam. Well displayed with information. Worth a visit. Entrance is 40k and the audio guides are for some artifacts only, so I would not recommend that. The legibility is limited, you always have to ask from someone where to go next. May be they could improve on that.

Pretty cool stuff. I was expecting more modern art sincerely, but all of it fitted into a small room. The rest of the collection is impressive though, ranging from prehistory to post-war period (sometimes exposed without a clear order). On top of that the building is classic and well kept.

A good place to spend an hour or two on a rainy afternoon in Hanoi. Can be a little bit warm and stuffy inside. I think it was only about two US dollars a person. I enjoy the older art that's on the lower floors more than the more contemporary art that's on the upper floors they had a traveling exhibit but it was all informed languages so couldn't understand too much about that part

(Translated by Google) I am very impressed with the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. It holds a lot of pictures of famous artists and works from a long time ago. In addition, the museum also has a space for displaying pottery in a separate area. It was a very special experience when stepping into the storage space for ceramic products for the first time. At the museum, the staff members will give you an instruction sheet and you can follow them. If you do not know, you can ask them again and will be very dedicated. Recommend this location to everyone when coming to Hanoi capital (Original) Mình rất ấn tượng với Bảo tàng Mỹ Thuật Việt Nam. There's a good collection of both contemporary and ancient art here and the audio guide is worth investment. To make the most of your visit, set aside a full morning or afternoon to visit all the galleries. And if you need a break, there's a good cafe near the entrance where you can get coffee or lunch.

My friend who comes to Hanoi quite often, had really wanted to go see this, so we walked here. After that we saw the prison and at the most she could probably spend a half an hour to an hour here it was really I mean it was OK a lot of the Southeast Asian artists or the type of silk paintings just were not really that appealing to me although it was really nice to see. ! I would go see it. It was only 40,000 dong for the ticket.

Top museum for magnificent lacquer painting art on the 3rd floor (end of floor). Showing Vietnamese lacquer artists; both old masters and stunning works from eras of French and American occupations. Visiting artists (and others) will not be disappointed. And most likely be humbled by technique, form, and content. The museum also has rooms of numerous other departments including strange ancient realist Bhuddist sculpture, relief prints, and contemporary art.

Visited during weekday and around 1 hour before close, so not many people. If you like arts ranging from painting, lacquer, statues, you can try visit this place. They also have gift/souvenir shop which I think offer far more unique product compared to usual gift/souvenir shop you find at street, they also able to explain the product origins, for example we purchase a massage stone made from buffalo horn and the staff show the production photo, which is nice to be able know the authencity of the product. Several products itself are handmade bag, silk, cutlery, toys, massage tools, etc.

It's nice to walk about in there to chill away from the crazy roads. We were a bit shocked how loud Vietnamese visitors were. Young students were making so much noise even some running around but the guard ladies dont do anything. Paintings were not impressive, mostly about the same theme. You will see what I mean. The souvenir shop has nothing worth to buy. Lots of construction noise in the building as well.. We still enjoyed it enough since the ticket was cheap. Its not a must-visit but recommended if you want to be away from the busy road and catch your breath. Get a nice drink at the cafe in the garden.

Sights @ Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum. . Housed in a restored French colonial building with touches of Vietnamese architecture, the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum houses some 20,000 art objects spanning prehistoric times until the present day, of which about 10% are on display. . The range spans 8 categories - Ancient Sculpture, Modern Sculpture, Oil Paintings, Lacquer Paintings, Paper and Silk Art, Traditional Arts, Ancient Ceramics, and Cu Lao Cham Ceramics. . Much of the artwork focuses on themes of patriotism, revolution, and defending the nation, particularly around former President Ho Chi Minh "Uncle Ho". . Personally, I found it interesting and a worthwhile visit.

Really worth a visit. I think when most people think of fine arts, we think of the masterpieces of the western Old Masters like Rembrandt, stunning paintings on canvas. But the moment you enter here, you are treated to a surprise—elaborate sculptures cut from rock meant to adorn pagodas, wooden painted buddhas larger than life, and the most enthralling lacquer paintings filled with more detail than a where’s waldo page. And yes there are plenty of incredible paintings in oil in the western style, but the plethora of these other works in other mediums created a shift in my mind: fine arts is not limited to the Western ideals. Was really eye-opening for me. The museum is also much bigger than it initially seems. Good choice for a rainy day in Hanoi.

I personally am not that interested in art. I am even less interested when the pieces come with little or no explanation of why a certain style was taken or the story behind the art work etc. I suppose you could buy the audio but some words to get more of a feeling of what we are looking at would have helped. A common example is art titled ‘girl’, not a lot of insight needed for that one.

Perfect museum! Especially perfect on a hot day and if you want to do something relaxing, knowledgeable, fun and see some beautiful art. The first building has three floors available to view and the second building has four floors but there isn’t something on each floor. The basement area of the second building has pottery which is beautiful, then the top floor has authentic, tribal clothing and artifacts (it is a bit warmer in this building and on the top level but it’s worth seeing!) The first building is next to the ticket area (there is a gift shop inside) which is past the little coffee stand; this building has beautiful collections of paintings across different eras, oil paintings, statues and just amazing things. Spend time just relaxing and walking through- it’s a perfect activity and museum for anyone; solo, family or friends! Follow @travelingypsey on Instagram & TripAdvisor!

If you want to learn about Vietnamese culture, this is a place you shouldn't miss. The museum exudes a sense of antiquity, with many precious artifacts inside representing Vietnam's long history. The ticket price is 40,000 VND for adults. If you purchase a ticket with audio narration, it will be around 115,000 VND (I don't remember exactly because I bought a regular ticket). You can explore the entire museum, including any temporary exhibitions taking place at the time. The museum consists of 3 floors and a basement area. The content from the 1st to the 3rd floor of the museum will span the length of Vietnam's history and culture, from prehistoric times to the present day. Floors 1-2 primarily introduce relics and architecture from ancient times. From the 3rd floor, contemporary paintings and famous sculptures of Vietnam will be displayed. The basement is where ceramics are exhibited. Due to the low ceiling in the basement, people over 1.8 meters tall may have difficulty exploring.

(Translated by Google) It's very wonderful. At the beginning, the color tone was dark and it seemed like I was in the atmosphere of war. When it comes to modern style, it's a museum! It's like that. It was good 🎵 (Original) とてもすばらしいですね。 最初の方は色のトーンが暗い感じで戦争の雰囲気にのまれそうでした。 現代風になると、美術館!っていう感じですね。良かったですよ🎵

Enjoyed our visit. Good place to learn Vietnamese history through art. So many amazing pieces to see. Doesn't take to long to get through, 1-2 hrs. There are multiple rooms and easy to miss a room if not checking the map.

A good place to tell a series of interesting history of Vietnam interpreted by means of fine arts. There will be no better way to explain the country's history with all those details. Excellent place both for adults and children. Especially so many marvelous arts made of wood were really awesome!

Wonderful place to escape the heat. It has some interesting pieces. Towards the end, a lot of war material as well as some on the commentary of the modern vs the old and the issues of modernization in Vietnam. The staffs were friendly but it could use more chairs in front of art work.

The artwork was absolutely beautiful! The silk paintings and lacquer paintings were my favorite. Many Vietnamese girls taking selfies in the museum which I find quite interesting. Maybe they are doing the right thing about broadcasting the beauty of these ancient pieces to the world via social media... The artworks are updated quite recently as there are some modern pieces inspired by COVID.

I am annoyed it took me my third visit to Hanoi to see this museum. It was amazing. Highly recommend going for an afternoon. It’s quite big

  • 3/5 Bobbi M. 2 years ago on Google
40k to enter at the door, you can download the app and scan a QR code on certain pieces for an audio guide for extra money - nice for someone who wants to learn more about the artwork. 3 floors, Wind through each floor while exploring art work of all shapes and sizes. Plenty of benches to sit and relax along the way. I took about 45 min to stroll through. 3 stars because although it was a nice museum I wouldn't say it's a must see in Vietnam.

(Translated by Google) Don't miss the Senju Kannon statue from Buttap Temple (Brush Tower Temple). If you would like to find a wooden statue of this quality outside of Japan, it would be the Senju Kannon statue at Chongzen Temple in Taiyuan, China, or the Mazu statue at Tainan Grand Mazu Temple. In addition, there is something like a Sinocentr barbarian figure, and various barbarians are drawn with Emperor Daeong at the top, and some of them are absurd as they appear in the Sankaikyo, but our Japanese are Zambara It is a figure that is half-naked with hair and carries a sword. Hands down the best fine arts museum I have visited in Vietnam so far. Often, most SEA galleries suffer from the lack of collections but not here. Art lovers can easily spend two hours in this venue. The entrance fee was 40k and reasonable. My only feedback would be that certain galleries lack sufficient lighting, rendering the exhibits to be dim. Otherwise, lizard dropping needs to be cleaned off the walls.

The Fine Arts museum has the best collection and best exhibited items in Vietnam. Over a course of several stories, you traverse a timeline from ancient works, to more modern pieces and their contemporaries. Beautiful pieces and a couple of replicas on display, the audio guide is a great help whilst enjoying the collection

Love the layout of this place, easy to navigate. Felt like a time travel through art. Didn’t get the audio guide but each hall had a brief explainer of the theme. And we googled the pieces we were interested in. Wish there were more details for the individual pieces. We took about an hour to finish, might be longer if you’re an art enthusiast or use the audio guide. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance.
